Shiny new thread for all your north east needs.

I just received an email from Pizza Express telling me the Gosforth one has closed permanently

Oh that is a shame Sad Been there many a time with DD.

I’ve thought mask compliance on the metro was pretty high actually - I’m only on it at peak time travelling to nursery and DD is usually the only one without a mask (she’s 2).

Bumbling over from the old thread to placemark.

Daim bars are open, Netflix is on.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 22/09/2020 20:54

Hello, just marking a place on the new thread before I go watch bake off on plus 1.

Snoringferret · 22/09/2020 21:00

Checking in and reporting for duty

Someaddedsugar · 22/09/2020 21:01

I've just been to the Durham Sainsburys in a slight panic as DS has changed his mind and now wants a rainbow cake rather than the green one requested for his birthday and I feel like this year has been so shit for him that I can't not make the bloody rainbow cake Grin. He may regret this request when he wakes up on Sunday and realises his mother is never going to be a contender on the bake off!

The good news is Sainsburys is well stocked with everything (inc. a variety of colours for a rainbow cake!!) so doesn't appear to be any panic buying going on here. Also masks being worn by 99% of customers and staff, and by everyone I saw at the petrol station over the road. I know I said this on the last thread but if anyone north Durham does ever need anything picking up while I'm doing our weekly shop please do let me know! More than happy to help out anyone where I can!

Me and LittleLatte are joining you here 😊

clareykb · 22/09/2020 21:25

Hello Gateshead here. Went to Eldon square yesterday and was fine, fairly quiet people being sensible. Feeling a bit down though as it's my birthday tomorrow and have had to cancel my drinks in the garden which would have been totally legal last week !

Happyinheels · 22/09/2020 21:32

Hi! Hope it's ok to join - I'm the NE coast Smile

Weefreelassie2 · 22/09/2020 21:36

Hello ! Smile
North Northumberland here, and I'm a long time lurker cos I'm shy .

I missed the other thread so off to have a read ! Life is much the same as ever up here, it's a tiny village and not much goes on. However plans are afoot to move a small exercise class to the pub {grin} Joking ...I think !

HazelE123 · 22/09/2020 21:37

Nice idea for a thread :-). I’m in south County Durham out in the sticks. We’re oldies and OH son lives here part time. We don’t go anywhere haha. We’ve had two afternoons out in the summer but only to open spaces. Wear a mask when someone comes to the door (delivery driver eg). As we’re in local semi lockdown it’ll stay that way - no mixing with other families although our neighbour is a bit close sometimes over the garden fence. I’m just trying to work out how we buy a cat from a private seller without having any contact. SS is desperate for the cat. And technically taking the cat home with us is mixing households!

Biancadelrioisback · 22/09/2020 21:40

Alreet me bonnie bairns!

Biancadelrioisback · 22/09/2020 21:42

clarey it's DHs birthday too and we've had to change all our plans so now just having a family meal.

Needanewnamenow · 22/09/2020 21:44

Hello from Durham! We moved just before lockdown from the south east, it's been an odd few months!

PickAChew · 22/09/2020 22:05

Well take heart @clareykb - the weather tomorrow will be utter shite, anyhow. Happy birthday, regardless 🎂🎈🎉🎁🍸

GalaxyCookieCrumble · 22/09/2020 22:14

Yeah NE gals assemble!

clareykb · 22/09/2020 22:14

Thank you...I'll just have to drink all the gin myself!

BessieSurtees · 22/09/2020 22:15

@Someaddedsugar I used to live through that way when the Arnison centre was all fields. I remember when they were developing and the house down in the corner by the A167 roundabout, the man refused to sell so they had to build him an access road. I think the house is gone now but the access road is still there.

Bit of trivia there.

PickAChew · 22/09/2020 22:15

I would say we're rather heavily represented on these threads, @needanewnsmenow but we are the most populous county in the NE, after all.

@pennydreadful I came up here 30 odd years ago to study at Newcastle uni, back when a pint of scotch was 80p and Blackwell's was Thornes. I don't realise how much of the general northeast lilt I've picked up until I visit my family in East Yorkshire (fat chance of that happening again this year :() where words have a very different shape.

legodisasterzone · 22/09/2020 22:17

Far from everyone’s biggest worry right now, but DD1 asked if they would be doing Fenwick’s window this year. Has anyone heard anything? I’m clinging to any chance of keeping up traditions!

Someaddedsugar · 22/09/2020 22:19

@BessieSurtees I know the exact place you mean - I've always wondered what that bit of road was for!

It's all change again as the road connecting that roundabout to the Anniston Centre has had a 'socially distanced layout' put in place and it feels like some kind of racing circuit as there are bollards down either side of the road and at one point in the middle of the road in order to accommodate a cycle lane on either side. Unfortunately it's very distracting while driving and a number of collisions appear to have already happened judging by the marks on the bollards!

Someaddedsugar · 22/09/2020 22:20

@legodisasterzone I'm also hoping the window is still a thing this year!

GalaxyCookieCrumble · 22/09/2020 22:21

Aww love cats,

If anyone needs cheering up, my sister informed me earlier that a couple were out walking a huge pet turtle on a lead on Sunday afternoon! And no I am not kidding😂😂😂

TheSparklyPussycat · 22/09/2020 22:21

It's 50 years (aargh!) since I came to Durham as an undergrad. And fell under its spell Smile
