Oh bless him! I hope he and his friends feel better soon. I think I'd find that very scary, it sounds like he's being very mature about it.

Snoringferret · 09/10/2020 18:02

I'm betting the first page of the daily mail tomorrow will be a young woman in Newcastle, pissed, in a tiny dress, eating chips and holding her shoes in her hand. Then there'll be a picture of two blokes fighting. A larger lady crying on the pavement a

Snoringferret · 09/10/2020 18:03

Sorry my cat made me press send too soon!

And a headline that says 'one last night of partying for the toon'

Or some pun that basically says that but has wayy aye in it.

Someaddedsugar · 09/10/2020 18:05

Thank you @InTheLongGrass.

@Snoringferret hopefully January is worst case scenario and infection rates start to drop soon.

Really want to cry today and I know it's just a culmination of everything but the impending announcement just feels like a dark cloud hanging over everything.

There doesn't seem to be much in the press today about the support bubbles going so fingers crossed it's a small piece of good news for those who can get support from others.

I hope all of you with businesses are ok Thanks

Someaddedsugar · 09/10/2020 18:06

@LaBelleSauvage123 hope he's ok - and hope you are too. It must be hard having him away from home knowing he's unwell.

Someaddedsugar · 09/10/2020 18:07

And thank you again for this thread @PennyDreadfuI - this week in particular it's been a huge comfort

LaBelleSauvage123 · 09/10/2020 18:26

When we dropped DS in Newcastle two weeks ago we stayed over and everywhere was so quiet. We walked along the quayside at about 9pm and only saw a few people. Before DS was in isolation he said the same. This was before the last lot of restrictions came in, on a Sat night - it certainly didn’t look as if people were partying. We loved it - so looking forward to going back once all this is over.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 09/10/2020 18:28

And thanks for your good wishes - he’s loving it despite everything and so we’re not finding it hard. We check in regularly, but it’s great to see him so settled.

I am in the city centre most nights at 9pm and this has been my experience too.
However they will take any opportunity to make it seem like Newcastle is full of lairy drunks. Grin

@snoringferret I feel the need for a pic of your cat as mine has form for similar things. Here's my lad - He is a big boy, but mostly floof! - jumping into my still warm bed after I vacated this morning!

@PickAChew
I admit to having to look in M&S everytime I'm near one and never leave empty handed.
I was actually really upset when the one in Durham closed!

Awwww & he seems to be giving you what for regarding taking HIS bed before he could!

Yeah, I moved into Durham from a nearby village, 3 years ago, then masses closed, pret closed and the hair salon I'd been going to forever closed. I found that markses invaluable for the couple of months I was having to catch 2 buses each way to ds2's school, twice a day, before we moved here and he qualified for transport. That was such a frantic few months with the school commute, preparing to move house and dealing with MIL's declining health that we ate a lot of yellow stickered ready meals.

If I met him in a dark alley, I wouldn't be able to decide whether to give him a scritch or run for my life.

PickAChew · 10/10/2020 00:17

This is going to be a long weekend. DS2 still bouncing about.

StealthPolarBear · 10/10/2020 09:37

I too was upset when m and s closed.it hadn't changed for decades. My grandma and grandad used to come and see me on the bus when I was at university here in the late nineties and they'd take me to m and s to buy me a bag of food. Every time I have been in since I thought of them doing that (grandma died ten years ago).
To cut a long story short it held good memories

Does anyone know what's happening with the indoor Market?

Someaddedsugar · 10/10/2020 10:17

I have similar memories about the M&S in Darlington @StealthPolarBear - my grandparents used to take me to get some food and some slippers - always a pair of slippers. I didn't dare say I probably had enough slippers for a pair a month at the time!

StealthPolarBear · 10/10/2020 10:22

Lol :o are you still getting through them?
As I walked them back to the bus station my grandma would always volunteer my grandad to help me carry my bags back to college, I always managed to convince them it wasn't neeeded

StealthPolarBear · 10/10/2020 10:22

They used to take me to that pizza place near Millburn gate for lunch too.
I think there's something in my eye.

PickAChew · 10/10/2020 10:41

The indoor Market has been operating just like a big department store. I've been I there a few times for the haberdashery or spices. Bloody confusing one way system, mind!

StealthPolarBear · 10/10/2020 11:29

Excellent. I'm going to suggest a family wander round Durham next weekend and we'll make sure we buy something

PickAChew · 10/10/2020 11:38

Robinsons has had a face-lift, too, if you can stand north road.

StealthPolarBear · 10/10/2020 11:40

Is that the grocers? (rather than the estate agent) :o

Shitfuckoh · 10/10/2020 11:41

@PickAChew

Standing there has never been a problem, it's whether you leave standing!
Someaddedsugar · 10/10/2020 11:51

@StealthPolarBear I think the charity shop thought I was a hoarder when I dropped them off!

Not helped by the fact my grandma's best friend had a market stall or similar and for every birthday I received an identical manicure set so the slippers were joined by 5 identical manicure sets!

A fond family memory though Smile
