What are the chances ? Sky News are reporting the possibility and a second lockdown has become a reality in Israel.

How likely do you think it is ?

@LEELULUMPKIN

Much respect to you for that!

Justaboy · 13/09/2020 23:04

Colder weather might make us weaker, more susceptible or, it might start affecting children.

We'll have to see, its mainly down to if and how the Virus mutates which it isn't doing that much if at all whereas the Flu virus does moreso.

I think the main reason why the goverment chages its mind is that they as individual ministers know feck all about their subjects like Matt Hancock he was in Culture media and sport last time so suddenly hes a grade one all knowing medic?.

Nope he'll like Boris just recite what hes told by advisers and they too will have chaging and differing info as this whole thing moves along.

Said it before Vaccine needed and as soon as they can release it!..

Notonthestairs · 13/09/2020 23:06

No I don't think there will be another national lockdown - the economy can't sustain it.

Local lockdowns yes unfortunately.

EagleSqueak · 13/09/2020 23:07

And what does Melbourne intend doing when you're all let out of lockdown and cases start rising again?

Who knows? Maybe lockdown again. The rest of Australia has very low/no cases, so maybe the international borders will stay closed (next year at the earliest, I’ve heard), but I hope we’ll be able to travel within the country well before then.

Weetabixandcrumpets · 13/09/2020 23:08

I have no intention of voluntarily having an unlicensed vaccine that hasn't been properly tested for a virus that over 99% of people survive.
(And yes, I did read and respond to the government's public consultation)

Bathroom12345 · 13/09/2020 23:13

Come down really hard on these extended families thinking as they are related they can meet ad nasum. Hugs, hand shakes and being close to your friends and relatives are what is spreading this. Not visiting a supermarket for a smash and grab shop!

Young people having endless parties because the illness does affect them. Break it up.

HippyHappygal · 13/09/2020 23:14

No. But I feel there may be-

  1. Curfews
  2. Restaurants and pubs shutting early each day
  3. Shielding for the vulnerable
HippyHappygal · 13/09/2020 23:14

as well as local lockdowns for course

HeIenaDove · 13/09/2020 23:16

maybe the threat of another national lockdown is to get people to accept that 10pm curfew.

Singinginshower · 13/09/2020 23:16

@MadameBlobby
Oh Christ I can’t bear endless threads on here of people describing themselves as “key workers” again every 5 mins instead of saying they work in Aldi/are a nurse/a cleaner in a hospital. Feels like only 2 mins since that twattery ended

But surely these people are keyworkers

480Widdio · 13/09/2020 23:17

Not a chance of another national lockdown.Nobody is taking any notice of the Government now, idiots.

MarshaBradyo · 13/09/2020 23:19

Just do a curfew. It’ll give the headlines and other countries have done it.

rubbishatballet · 13/09/2020 23:20

The NHS is planning for the mass vaccination programme to start in October, and I think the gov will do everything to hold off on another lockdown until they know how that's going (or not).

Justaboy · 13/09/2020 23:22

curfew ??

Well only of use if the public have somewere to meet or mingle after ten and if they closed resturants and pubs then surely more oppertunits for it to spread with people out and about during the day?..

Called inot my local boozer last week and only me and three barmen in there. But around 10 out in the gardens.

MarshaBradyo · 13/09/2020 23:23

Really I missed this? Which vaccine? (Oxford Group do you mean)
ohthegoats · 13/09/2020 23:23

I think schools will close a week ( or 2) before half term while situation is reassessed

This will not happen. Individual schools are going to end up closing due to lack of staff if they don't get testing sorted out pretty bloody quickly though. They don't need to 'reassess', they need to test quickly (and in the case of school staff, often).

People will not comply properly a second time - they aren't complying in local lockdown areas even now. The government has lost all trust in that department.

Thewiseoneincognito · 13/09/2020 23:23

The Second lockdown is coming whether we like it or not. Those saying they won’t comply or don’t expect others to abide by it are deluded. The reality is that by November if we aren’t in a lockdown the situation will be catastrophically dire beyond our wildest imagination. I feel like we are around the same point we were at in the end of January right now.

The government will HAVE to help those unemployed or not working because of restrictions, any suggestion otherwise is mute in my opinion.

The numbers are going to start shooting back up, you only have to walk around town centres to see the idiots who won’t wear masks or have no clue what 2 meters actually means. If they can’t follow the rules outside imagine the lack of obedience to the new 6 people policy.

It’s just a matter of who locks down first, I think either France Italy or Spain before us.

We should just be grateful we don’t live in the US because they have the upcoming elections to deal with as well, that whole country is on the brink of an eruption so it could be worse...

Fololomolo · 13/09/2020 23:24

October?

HippyHappygal · 13/09/2020 23:25

The vaccine will not be ready next month and rolled out. Not sure where you have heard that

AlecTrevelyan006 · 13/09/2020 23:25

looks to me like cases have been rising since 7 July (630) having reached a low point of 352 the day before. Today they are 3,330

coronavirus.data.gov.uk/cases

Hospital admissions on 7 July were 206. Today there are 141
Patients in hospital on 7 July were 2,397. Today there are 884
Patients on ventilation on 7 July were 197. Today there are 79
Deaths reported on 7 July were 54. Today there were five.

so, the cases numbers have been rising for more than two months but all other important numbers have fallen. And some people want another lockdown?

madness

QueenPaws · 13/09/2020 23:28

People aren't listening as it is. Police have just fined someone 10k in my area for a party of 45 people. She's all over social media laughing about how pathetic it is and that it's pocket change to her and they were all socially distanced family HmmHmm

Totally agree. I posted very similar earlier but got totally ignored as the facts don’t suit the agenda of all the other posters..
Devlesko · 13/09/2020 23:29

Well if there becomes an increase, hospitals have many cases and people begin to know people who have it. Then they will take it seriously, you can't blame them.

blue25 · 13/09/2020 23:31

I think a second lockdown is coming. We’re being prepped for it at work-expected by the start of October unfortunately.

TheDragQueen · 13/09/2020 23:32

Scaremongering bollocks.
