Anyone in the North East?

Gateshead has just been added to the govt watchlist and Newcastle is on amber alert. Sunderland have had over 200 cases in the past seven days.

Are we next for a local lockdown? What do you think it will entail? Given Newcastle's reputation as a party city I'm guessing restricted hours for bars maybe - they were packed to the rafters over the August bank holiday weekend, which may account for lots of the new cases.

DH made a good point. You can sit next to your colleague all morning in the office but you can't walk down the street to the shop together on your lunch.
I am so desperately upset about this for reasons I can't really go into but I genuinely feel a panic attack coming on waiting to officially hear.

Plussizejumpsuit · 16/09/2020 20:20

@idontthinkicare sorry for your loss. This must be so hard right now.

GeologyRox · 16/09/2020 20:23

Teeside here, afaik Middlesbrough is on the 'watch' list and lots of places, including schools have reported bubbles advised to self isolate and positive tests leading to closures of businesses.
I'm near quite a few tourist hotspots, they've been heaving all summer, and not just with tourists but local hotels I know have been all but full since they reopened, it's no surprise that local numbers are rising really and I don't think we've seen the true knock on effect from schools and colleges going back yet.

Shitfuckoh · 16/09/2020 20:25

Any one care to guess on when we'll be told officially if it's happening or not?

Bearfrills · 16/09/2020 20:26

I reckon late tonight or early tomorrow based on announcements for other areas.

SabrinaTheTeenageBitch · 16/09/2020 20:28

Im in Sunderland. Absolutely depressing news. I honestly don't know how much more of this I have in me. Im worried sick about my kids when they go to school each day. I think it feels worse because everyone is fatigued with it all now but its just awful

PennyDreadfuI · 16/09/2020 20:28

@Bearfrills

My thinking, too.

Friday night will be carnage with people having a last blast, won't it?

My husband's employer was making noises about wanting staff back in the office, the union have been making noises about not going back into the office, I think the union are going to win on this one.

HugeAckmansWife · 16/09/2020 20:33

Well I need my parents to help with childcare. I can't work if they don't and I'm a teacher. Also, I went 3 months without seeing my partner, he can't move in, so is that all on hold again? Or do we go and sit at separate tables in a pub? Fucking farce.

Shitfuckoh · 16/09/2020 20:35

I looked at that article again and can't find it now but I'm sure it said it would come in to play Midnight Friday. Not sure how they're classing midnight Friday though - under 26 hours or is it pretty much Saturday?
Friday all day but defo the evening will be dreadful with people meeting up in pubs etc if so!

alseb · 16/09/2020 20:35

I’m told that Matt Hancock reviews the NE situation on a Thursday so I’d expect an announcement tomorrow. I think it has been in the Evening Chronicle tonight to prepare us.

Shitfuckoh · 16/09/2020 20:37

Ignore that, couldn't see it for looking:

'' to come into force just after midnight on Friday morning - September 18''
Just to wait to find out if it happens now

Plussizejumpsuit · 16/09/2020 20:38

Probably

Me neither.

We always knew further lockdowns were a possibility but now we're here and it's happening and it's just shit.

I'm sad about this but also want to quash it quickly if we can now rather than a couple of months time.
We have our own testing centre now so it's clearly bad.
I'm supposed to be away with two friends next weekend but I'm guessing we won't be welcome. They kind of think I'm overreacting as they're further south than me, they're in the Darlington area and say its not as bad there but it's bad where I am definitely.

juneybean · 16/09/2020 20:45

@OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea Hello!

@Dockray have you seriously got a child in the seniors now? How time flies!! All good here, often think about you! It's been too long!

HeresMe · 16/09/2020 20:46

I honestly don't know how much more of this I have in me

I tried suicide during last lot of lockdown, I cannot do lockdown again that is it.

Flowers

Do you live alone or with others? Do you have anyone you can talk to, your GP maybe? You can always chat to us here if it helps. From what I've seen we seem like an ok bunch.

It's awful and so unfair on so many people. The government have no idea what this is doing to people's mental health, they can't do.

DCs 'dad' has just let me know that if local lockdown does come in to play, he won't be seeing them until it's lifted. Again.

Bearfrills · 16/09/2020 20:51

@HeresMe Flowers I know its rubbish but it'll pass, its only for now and not forever. Please see about RL support for this if you haven't already.

Dockray · 16/09/2020 20:52

Juney- 2 of them in seniors! #2 started last week. #1 is the same height as me now. Shock

When all of this is over we need a night out. All of us- oldies and newbies.

Shitfuckoh · 16/09/2020 20:53

@HeresMe
Flowers as PP said, always here if a chat is needed/wanted

Dockray · 16/09/2020 20:58

HeresMe. It is total rubbish, but we will come out the other side. What's the main things worrying you?

Shitfuckoh- what an arse. Have you got other support?

HeresMe · 16/09/2020 20:58

@pennydreadful

Live alone, I spent my lockdown at work and go home no enjoyment in life, I used to go on my daily allowed walk and cry.

I've done help ect it doesn't help.

I'm at the point everything can fuck itself.

Another lockdown I'm done

BessieSurtees · 16/09/2020 20:58

I don’t think they would risk another last hurrah weekend so it will be in force before Friday night. I do think the chronicle are ramping up emotions though, firstly saying the local councils had asked for lockdown when they had asked for more support and now preempting the announcement when it hasn’t been finalised yet. It does sound harsh though.
