Anyone in the North East?

Gateshead has just been added to the govt watchlist and Newcastle is on amber alert. Sunderland have had over 200 cases in the past seven days.

Are we next for a local lockdown? What do you think it will entail? Given Newcastle's reputation as a party city I'm guessing restricted hours for bars maybe - they were packed to the rafters over the August bank holiday weekend, which may account for lots of the new cases.

@UpToonGirl not Newcastle but my friend got her two kids a test at Houghton-le-Spring

Jrobhatch29 · 11/09/2020 08:48

@UpToonGirl

Any one else in the NE struggling to get testing for a child? Youngest has a temp and cough but when I look for testing sites nothing is coming up and I'm wondering if they are not testing under 18's at the sites near me - I'm in Newcastle.
There's mobile testing in south shields today and tomorrow but I've heard it's not coming up as an option
ParlezVousWronglais · 11/09/2020 08:51

Yes about 2.657 million people

UpToonGirl · 11/09/2020 08:55

Thanks @simplybed and @Jrobhatch29, they aren't even coming up as options although I would happily travel further to get him tested.

Ginfordinner · 11/09/2020 08:58

DD is in her student house in Jesmond, and has been there for several weeks. There are 8 of them sharing, so it is possible that the larger groups of student age young people seen out and about are from one household.

It is very worrying news.

4forkssake · 11/09/2020 09:05

There's apparently recently been test sites in Houghton, Stanley, Belmont (think the park & ride) & Dalton Park. Not sure if they're all still there but I think the Houghton one is the most recent due to the Burnside outbreak.

PennyDreadfuI · 11/09/2020 09:11

Being on the watchlist means that there should be extra testing available from today (when it'll be formally announced). Hopefully that means anyone who needs a test can get one (though I wouldn't hold my breath).

I'm so tired of younger people being blamed for the spike in cases. The government has told them (and all of us) it's ok to go back to uni/school and that they should be socialising/shopping to boost the economy but when they do, they become the scapegoat for rising cases.

I've seen lots of groups out and about recently but I don't blame them - they're just doing what they've been encouraged to do.

I'm North East. One of my stupid colleagues went out to a restaurant and also to her first and second job while waiting for test results. Now about 50 people are self isolating because of her. Everyone is angry with her.
My son's school has just had a case and shut down one of the year groups as well.

RedCatBlueCat · 11/09/2020 09:45

Getting a test is only half the battle.
Getting results takes for ever.
Tested Tuesday, still waiting for an answer Angry

PennyDreadfuI · 11/09/2020 10:11

I've just seen that 33 more people have tested positive after the Burnside club football match. That's over 60 now I think, out of 300.

I'd imagine they weren't all licking each others' faces or anything, so it just goes to show how infectious it is.

It's in the news this morning there is a further 33 cases from the charity football match. Crazy!

Jrobhatch29 · 11/09/2020 10:12

Cross posted with @PennyDreadful lol

I'm guessing she was positive?

My best friends mam has just finished isolating after contact with a friend who was positive. That friend was part of a group where a few of them tested positive after going for a curry together

UpToonGirl · 11/09/2020 10:21

Oh no @RedCatBlueCat was it a walk through appointment? I had a home test about a month ago - just the random volunteer testing and that took 9 days.

@Yamashita40 thats crazy, it's one thing if you unknowingly spread it but if you are waiting for the result you know there's a chance you may be positive!

Yes, I saw the news about the football match, feels like two steps forward and one step back. @PennyDreadfuI you'd assume they aren't licking each other (although who knows!) but I wonder if the high numbers coming out are to do with the fact that you shout and project more at a footie match.

NeurotrashWarrior · 11/09/2020 10:23

I am. Didn't know Newcastle were amber. Eek.

I've heard locally it was more to do with drinking in the club afterwards rather than the actual match but might be rumours

NeurotrashWarrior · 11/09/2020 10:29

What worries me is that North Shields are relatively low and yet it's a couple of schools there that I so far know of cases and bubbles closed.

Areas along the quayside seem to be creeping up.

Yamashita40 · 11/09/2020 10:39

Yes sorry should have said she was positive. I've had to be tested myself after indirect contact with a positive case and completely isolated all of us until we had our results. Wouldn't have dreamed of going out!

She's going on like she's being victimised for being positive but it isn't that at all, it's the fact she went all over while waiting for results.

Dear me, that's dreadful. Some people are so careless. Yeah my friends mam didn't leave the house whatsoever for 2 weeks. My friend had to leave food on the door step
Justyou · 11/09/2020 10:44

It’s really worrying as we can’t reassure the kids it’s 100% safe being back at school when it’s likely to close again at some point.

Yes I'd heard that too, as well as local pubs, some of which have subsequently closed for deep cleaning.

Splodgetastic · 11/09/2020 10:50

I feel like the clampdown might have been targeted at a particular community with holidays coming up and again the government don't want to be honest about it. Certainly seems that way too the way they are talking about Gateshead, Newcastle and Leeds. At least it was done with some notice this time.

MissPoldark · 11/09/2020 11:35

Fuck me. Just what the actual hell is wrong with people?
I don’t know about this “hands, face, space” campaign but I think we definitely need a bit of public information to drum it into people that they need to self isolate with symptoms or if they’ve been asked to by track & trace.
I despair I really do. How does your colleague manage to hold down 2 jobs while being so dim?

Jrobhatch29 · 11/09/2020 12:48

Coincidentally my DP has just had a phone call from one of his staff. He's having to isolate because someone on his football team turned up to training whilst waiting for a result (didn't tell anyone) and has since came back positive. What's wrong with people?
