Gateshead has just been added to the govt watchlist and Newcastle is on amber alert. Sunderland have had over 200 cases in the past seven days.

Are we next for a local lockdown? What do you think it will entail? Given Newcastle's reputation as a party city I'm guessing restricted hours for bars maybe - they were packed to the rafters over the August bank holiday weekend, which may account for lots of the new cases.

I think all the local lockdowns have different rules.
Pretty sure shielding was advised to restart in Leciester. I dont remember it being reintroduced for the nE version. Dont know what happened in the NW.

Teesside is predicted to be a hotspot by next month.

Dementedswan · 22/09/2020 13:41

Yes, facing 6 months worth of restrictions. The military were mentioned too.

PickAChew · 22/09/2020 13:53

Well the spitfire was very much blink and you'll miss it. I was merely on the wrong side of the house!

GalaxyCookieCrumble · 22/09/2020 13:57

Afternoon peeps, was expecting much more restrictions, was expecting Darlington to be included in the local lockdowns seen it was mentioned yesterday, but BoJo speech was not as bad as I thought it would be.

PennyDreadfuI · 22/09/2020 15:14

Ugh.

That's all I have to say, really.

At least this time he's not pretending he's going to 'turn the tide in 13 weeks' like he did in March, or that things are going to be back to normal by Christmas as he did in July. Doesn't make the pill any easier to swallow, though.

By the way there's a shiny new support thread here for when the time comes!

Well my ASDA shopping arrived. 1 item unavailable from what I did manage to order but I did have lots removed yesterday due to being out of stock & was unable to find any replacements in stock.

Did mange to get the basics plus packed lunches for eldest, general food & snacks but more importantly I did get my custard slices so I'm happy Grin

Plussizejumpsuit · 22/09/2020 18:17

Just checking in. I've actually been working today rather than lying in bed feeling ill. Just went ot tesco I'm Gateshead and stock was fine. Not many multi packs of baked beans but in fairness it has several big blocks of student accommodation above it! Grin

Feeling very mixed right now. Had a little cry yesterday as stuff just fell too much. Not feeling quite as bad today. Think work was a good distraction.

I'm feeling confused about new restrictions. Is BJ speaking again at 8pm? God I can't even get a handle on the announcements!

Flowers to everyone as this truly is shit. Boris has surely lost all support now. Even among his most loyal Tory followers. It is utter madness and I bet a lot of people really can't follow what the hell is going on.
My poor Mum who is 75 and has cancer said to me today that she felt sorry for old folk who were trying to enjoy their last year and maybe fancied a cruise before they died.

PennyDreadfuI · 22/09/2020 18:36

@Plussizejumpsuit Flowers I felt really low yesterday, too. Had a little cry in the bath. You're right, it's all a bit much and feels neverending, and today's announcement that it's going to be another six months felt like a kick in the nuts.

The restrictions are confusing indeed (who would expect anything less from this lot at this point, though?). I don't understand why he hasn't just extended all the current local lockdown restrictions to the whole country. To be honest I don't think even he knows what he's doing.

Glad you feel a bit better today, illness-wise and All This-wise Smile

Newcastle just tweeted that North Fawdon primary school is closed for 14 days following an outbreak where staff have tested positive. This could go on a loop schools closing, returning and closing.

I can’t see people agreeing not to see their family for 6 months and the country is not going to go home to bed at 10pm each night either.

PennyDreadfuI · 22/09/2020 19:52

@BessieSurtees Gosforth Academy, too. The Chronicle has a list of all the school cases/closures.

Fawdon Primary and Gosforth Academy at both close to me - DD went to Gosforth. You're right, this is just going to be neverending isn't it.

Checking in to see how everyone is doing, I'm having a bit of a downer day as I'm in a horrible negative mood about everything being shit. I'm meant to be in Poland right now with no DC, having a grown up holiday, sleeping late, going to cultural places rather than soft plays, and eating at restaurants that don't have crayons on the table. Ten years I've waited for this. Instead I'm pulling double duty in the house and doing all of the school runs because DH has tonsillitis, I had also booked a weekend away this weekend to make up for all of our breaks being cancelled but now that's been cancelled too. I know there are other people who are far worse off but I'd like to go have a melodramatic flounce around the garden, might even kick over a couple of plant pots or lie on the trampoline with my arm over my face.

Had a driving lesson today and nearly ran a twatting cyclist over on the quayside, his fault not mine, but it definitely put the crap sprinkles on my shit sundae.

Thiswillbeinteresting · 22/09/2020 20:03

@PickAChew

I missed it as well Sad

There seems to be more and more cases popping up in schools now - another confirmed today.

Like @Bearfrills I'm having a down day today, well - actually a down few days. I'm really struggling Sad But somehow I have to pull myself together enough to drive the 12 hour round trip to collect DD at the weekend, and as I'm collecting her from Scotland, I'm not even allowed in to the house when I get there!

BessieSurtees · 22/09/2020 20:05

Ah @Bearfrills it’s pants isn’t it, my weekend has been cancelled, I’m waiting to hear about my next holiday. I’ve spent the last 6 months rearranging holidays, though we did get a week in Scotland.

I love the lying on the trampoline image, I wish I had a trampoline I would do this and may let out a little wail Grin

Many years ago my neighbour knocked a man down on a bicycle and got out of the car apologising, put his crumpled bike in the back of the car and took him home. I think the cyclist was too shocked to complain or object.

Bearfrills · 22/09/2020 20:11

All the kids are at school and nursery tomorrow, I might schedule my garden tantrum in for then Grin

I was outside the Wetherspoons on Sandhill and stopped at the lights, cyclist in front but he was positioned to go right and I was going straight on so I gave him time to pull away. He went right, I pulled away, he changed his mind and decided to go left instead so I had to brake. He decided on going right after all so I pulled away again, he changed his mind again and shot into the gap in front of me. It was like a live hazard perception test.

Bearfrills · 22/09/2020 20:18

Positives of the day: there are mini Daim bars in the cupboard Star

BessieSurtees · 22/09/2020 20:20

Was it Boris, he’s not sure which direction he’s going either.

Ooh bake offs on Cake

LatteLover12 · 22/09/2020 20:27

Ooh, can't believe I've missed this thread.

I had a baby 6 days ago so I'm watching these new restrictions with a mixture of horror and relief.

My son's school emailed to say there were 3 positive cases today. He's not been in close contact but now I'm freaking out about my newborn.

NeurotrashWarrior · 22/09/2020 20:35

Schools are toppling over. Just two weeks since they opened!

And I know of a few not reported on that List.

NeurotrashWarrior · 22/09/2020 20:37

Congratulations Latte!

From what I understand if baby is well you don't have much to worry about. 3 cases is concerning though. Keeping my fingers crossed for you 🤞

PennyDreadfuI · 22/09/2020 20:41

@Bearfrills FlowersWineCake

It's been a bollock of a day hasn't it and you seem to have had a bigger bollock of a day than most. Crack open those Daim bars pet.

I think for a lot of people today and yesterday has brought a realisation that this is it for a very, very long time, and that winter is going to be shit, and Christmas (and lots of other things we've been looking forward to) is going to be very different this year. Also the changing of the seasons has hit me quite hard - when All This started the trees were bare and now it's autumn and soon they will be again, and we're still in the midst of it. I've felt the passage of time very keenly this week.

Bollocking bumholes indeed.
