Anyone in the North East?

Gateshead has just been added to the govt watchlist and Newcastle is on amber alert. Sunderland have had over 200 cases in the past seven days.

Are we next for a local lockdown? What do you think it will entail? Given Newcastle's reputation as a party city I'm guessing restricted hours for bars maybe - they were packed to the rafters over the August bank holiday weekend, which may account for lots of the new cases.

@idontthinkicare

So does this mean we won't be able to leave the north east ?
I honestly have no idea, please don't take what I have said as gospel, I am just panicking thinking out loud!

There hasn't been any mention of not being able to leave/enter as far as I can see - what with all the students arriving over the next few weeks it wouldn't be practical I expect. All the parents dropping off DC then driving home, too.

But then none of this is practical and not much of it makes sense so...

Another Northumberlander here. I've got all four DC home after youngest started showing symptoms, managed to get a test but still waiting for the results. Schools won't send any work home unless the test result is positive which is rubbish because they're going to miss most of this week anyway and there's Boria Johnson claiming that schools are providing work for pupils unable to attend Hmm

Mrsfussypants1 · 16/09/2020 19:53

Hi, Northumberland here too! So am I right in thinking if it happens you can still go to the pub and mix with 6 friends? I walked past Wetherspoons a couple of fridays ago on my way home from work and the que of twentysomethings all huddled together in the wind quieng to get in, bouncers weren't at all bothered. I know of two men who were confirmed cases after visiting several of the locals. But I probably cant see my granddaughter? I'm a young, healthy grannie who has taken more precautions than those visiting our locals.

Bearfrills · 16/09/2020 19:54

If it happens you can still go to the pub but only with people from the same house as you.

katienana · 16/09/2020 19:54

The Utilita arena is the normal indoor arena.
This is shit. If you need grandparents for childcare, if you need to get on the bus, if you can't cope without your family then crack on imo, just try and limit your exposure in other ways.
I'm still going to go to my parents house. My dad nearly died of a heart attack in the summer, whats the point of living if you can't have your family? I'd rather take my chances with the virus than end up with depression.

Bearfrills · 16/09/2020 19:55

I'm dreading not being able to see my mam and dad if we're not allowed to mix with other households. For the first 4-5 weeks of the lockdown in March my 3yo was in tears every day over missing her nana Sad

Oh bollocks of course it is! Utilita/Unity is clearly too much for my tiny brain to comprehend!

And yes, absolutely this at this point.

I hadn't suffered with depression for over a decade before April this year. As I say I was starting to feel better but the dark cloud seems to be descending again.

Oh god I can’t bare the thought of a local lockdown! Hopefully I’m still allowed to travel back and forth from my partners house as we both live alone so in a bubble.
I also hope gyms stay open! Can’t see many pubs and restaurants doing well if you can’t mix households...

idontthinkicare · 16/09/2020 20:02

Oh isn't this crazy.
Is Hartlepool and Middlesbrough not included?

idontthinkicare · 16/09/2020 20:03

@HarrietOh I live alone too and my mum and gran just died 2 weeks ago,the thought of not being able to go to my friends or friends to me is really upsetting

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 16/09/2020 20:04

Hello North East gang.

I hide out very, very close to you @stealthpolarbear. Nice to see you still lurking around @juneybean. And I would say hello to the other friend but I already can't remember your alias!

It's in both schools my kids go to now and my kids are stuck at home because one of them is waiting for a test result.

It's just meh.

But I shall continue to don my PPE and do my job.

katienana · 16/09/2020 20:06

@idontthinkicare so sorry to hear that, of course you must get support from your friends and you would be able to be in a bubble with another household within the rules anyway Flowers

I'm so sorry to hear that x

No, nobody will be able to meet up with anyone who's not from their own household either indoors or out, public or private. It's like the early days of lockdown again isn't it. Obviously an attempt to stop all the socialising the north east (especially Newcastle) is famous for, particularly as the students are due back. Fresher's week is usually pretty full-on. Poor kids.

HarrietOh · 16/09/2020 20:08

@idontthinkicare oh I’m so sorry that must be awful. If you live alone and this does happen get into a support bubble with another household Flowers

HarrietOh · 16/09/2020 20:09

Quite a few house parties and groups of students armed with drink going to parties at student houses on Whinney Hill in Durham. I can’t say I blame them but also, it’s probably not going to help cases.

I'm so, so sorry Flowers

If it's like the first lockdown there will be exceptional circumstances re mixing households (care etc). I would think you would definitely fall into that category. Is there someone you can go and stay with for the duration?

@idontthinkicare Hartlepool and Middlesbrough not mentioned in the link above, but I think it wont be long Sad

I'm very sorry for your loss Flowers

NeurotrashWarrior · 16/09/2020 20:10

I wonder if this is also because of all the students coming aswell? A kind of buffer in preparation?

NeurotrashWarrior · 16/09/2020 20:11

I'm so very sorry for your loss @idontthinkicare.

I'm certain you can bubble with someone. Do you have anyone you could bubble with?

PennyDreadfuI · 16/09/2020 20:11

Afaik, no. I read cases were decreasing on Teesside, is that true? Fingers crossed for you it is (if that's where you are!).

Case confirmed in Whitburn seniors today. It's all so predictable. Sad

Definitely an attempt to stop them socialising what with the 10pm pub curfew and no mixing.
