The Guardian have been going on about this but they seem vague and do not say how they plan to do this along with not totally locking down the country again.

It seems vague and about being 'stricter' can anyone tell me what they mean and how it would work. They talk about places like New Zealand and Iceland which are quite different to hear. and even those places have a small amount of cases.

Do you reckon for the next pandemic everyone would shut their borders from day 1?

I was just wondering if a two month global shutdown could help us fix this thing.

We're in a proper pickle I think.

It's a chicken and egg situation. Not all newly emerging diseases spread round the globe (SARS1 and MERS did not) so people will want to wait to see if there really is community transmission in several locations in more than one continent before labelling it as a pandemic.

And no-one has a crystal ball to show if that will be called in time.

Labyrinth I’m really not sure!

Scaevola yes good point. One answer could be closing to country of origin straight away. Perhaps modern day intel will cover virus watch in case of cover up (I have no idea if this is far fetched or already happening).

It may be interesting to see how this changes the response to any future pandemics and if the response is quicker...
