Just heard this on breaking news.

From midnight tonight? Bad news for anyone who is there now and due to travel home. We were supposed to be going at the end of August and now I’m limbo about what to do!!!

OP posts:

No quarantine is all Spain inc Balearics and canaries but fco advise against travel is mainland Spain only

All packages will be cancelled as almost all operators have it in their conditions to cancel holidays were thrrrd requirement to isolate either side

You won’t have choice

Piggywaspushed · 25/07/2020 20:57

That's not true!!

Quarantine includes the islands.

Piggywaspushed · 25/07/2020 20:58

I genuinely don't think it's confusing....

daisymay133 · 25/07/2020 20:59

Agree piggy all have to isolate so all packages will be cancelled

Those on flight only may not be cancelled but may touch lucky due to lower booking soay cancel by default

howfarwevecome · 25/07/2020 20:59

Yeah, we should have known last year that this was going to happen

Lots of people booked before the pandemic started. But booking before the pandemic still involved a decision to still go knowing this might happen.

Yes, I get that people don't want to lose their holiday/money. We had a holiday booked for a week in August; we've lost several hundred pounds cancelling it. Not ideal, but we still felt it was the more sensible approach under the circumstances as we have jobs that won't be sympathetic if we got stuck in a return quarantine like this, especially mine where our Head specifically told all of she wouldn't be impressed if this happened. School year has been tough enough already.

LesLavandes · 25/07/2020 20:59

Just checked FCO info is clear

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 25/07/2020 21:00

My brother was due to travel to Spain next week (booked back in 2019). He has contacted his insurance... FCO have NOT said you can’t travel so insurance won’t pay out! He and his DP have paid £1800 for this holiday.....

My holiday to France was booked in Autumn last year and we are due to return to U.K. one week before I am due back to work in school. If the rules change while we are out there we can drive back home in about 10 hours. We will lose out on the £2500 the holiday has cost us plus however much we will have to pay to get us and the car back over the channel.... if we cancel without the FCO saying we cannot travel we won’t get any money back.... I already had to prove to work that my holiday was booked before COVID. Anyone who can’t show they booked (and paid) before the end of March has been told that disciplinary procedures may be incurred if they are unable to return to work on time. I will not be paid and will “have a note on my record” but “probably” won’t face disciplinary action as I had booked in advance.

daisymay133 · 25/07/2020 21:01

People won’t have choice to go and accept quarantine

All operators will cancel holidays now

It’s automatic on their Covid quarantine on their websites - defo tui easyJet jet 2 etc

daisymay133 · 25/07/2020 21:02

I meant it’s in their Covid guarantee

Uhoh2020 · 25/07/2020 21:02

@Piggywaspushed quarantine is for mainland Spain only the canaries and balearics aren't included

2155User · 25/07/2020 21:03

@Uhoh2020

Wrong

daisymay133 · 25/07/2020 21:03

No it’s not 🙈

Quarantine is Spain and islands

Fco advice mainland Spain only

Pertella · 25/07/2020 21:03

People won’t have choice to go and accept quarantine

Does that include the canaries though?

LesLavandes · 25/07/2020 21:04

Bugger off - fco says - all but essential travel to mainland Spain. A holiday is not essential travel. Have a look

daisymay133 · 25/07/2020 21:05

Here you go straight from fco page now

Islands must isolate

Cancellations apply to all countries where there’s isolation either side

Can someone show me a current web location where is clearly says you have to or don't have to quarantine for 14 days on return from the Spanish Balearic of Canary islands after midnight tonight (25th July)?

LesLavandes · 25/07/2020 21:06

Pertella. You have to quarantine when returning to UK from Canaries

daisymay133 · 25/07/2020 21:07

Just posted above

LesLavandes · 25/07/2020 21:07

Newnewt - FCO website!

Pertella · 25/07/2020 21:08

I can't find anything from Jet2 that says they will refund if quarantine is introduced. Do you have a link?

Hoppinggreen · 25/07/2020 21:08

When we visit our property in Spain we fly to Portugal as the nearest airport is Faro and then we drive over - wonder how that would work?
The border is completely open with no checks either way

TrickyD · 25/07/2020 21:08

@ballsdeep

So they are! Blush

cantdothisnow1 · 25/07/2020 21:08

I just can't see the tourism industry surviving this. Aside from peoples personal feelings about the rights and wrongs of booking a holiday (those who did so after the pandemic started), it is just incredibly sad. It's not a selfish act to travel at a time that these businesses need to operate to survive, it is incredibly stupid though to travel and then fail to comply with social distancing measures and to act as though the virus doesn't exist, which is sadly what has been going on both overseas and at home.

It is just overwhelmingly sad at every level, but our behaviours have to change if we want any chance of tourism surviving.

Uhoh2020 · 25/07/2020 21:09
@Uhoh2020

Wrong
Sorry yes just seen quarantine still required but travel not against recommendation.

That's hell for travellers as the tour operators won't cancel and people will lose money if they choose not to travel Sad

hopingtobedally · 25/07/2020 21:09

Schools are closed anyway, so children were not due to go anywhere, people will just keep working from home. A needed quarantine is not a deterrent for a bit of holiday for many people, and it shouldn't be.

Ahh another officerworker centric post!
