As pointed out, I was probably too optimistic re vaccine (wishful thinking ...) but there are some really interesting links on the vaccine thread.

FrippEnos · 20/07/2020 23:21

reposting this

documentcloud.adobe.com/link/review?uri=urn%3Aaaid%3Ascds%3AUS%3Af2f0a4e1-6939-43e6-af86-e0af71dbd756#pageNum=3

and pointing out the the 1st of the five lessons learnt is pretty much all classrooms

Pomegranatepompom · 20/07/2020 23:21

Oh no am I the inevitable 😳 !

CallmeAngelina · 20/07/2020 23:22

Ah, was just looking to repost that , Fripp.

CallmeAngelina · 20/07/2020 23:24

On the plus side, we have windows that open wide, but on the negative side, warm air heaters that chuck out clouds of dust and now Covid particles. And they're also really noisy, requiring one to shout and potentially pass on virus particles that way too.

Hey ho.

SmileEachDay · 20/07/2020 23:26

No Pom you aren’t 😂

openplankitchen · 20/07/2020 23:34

Hopefully there will be no abuse for disagreeing with teachers opinions on this thread!

Hercwasonaroll · 20/07/2020 23:38

We don't have any windows that open. We have an air circulation system.

CallmeAngelina · 20/07/2020 23:40

If that article was only published recently, how come the Diamond Princess cruise ship hadn't already indicated that air-conditioning systems were a major issue?

labyrinthloafer · 20/07/2020 23:42

Place marking

ohthegoats · 20/07/2020 23:46

We're having the heating in our school changed over the summer.

People won't get insulted by teachers if they don't patronise teachers.

oldbagface · 21/07/2020 00:00

FFS. I am NOT a teacher. Just a concerned parent.

May I suggest we carry on regardless of the white noise now.

Hope this thread is not derailed and sorry for losing my shit on the tail end of the last thread.

Anyway, aerosols and ventilation...

netflixismysidehustle · 21/07/2020 00:02

Anyone think that Westminster is waiting for Scottish schools to go back before even considering if the plans are workable?

I think they'll plough on regardless.
IceCreamSummer20 · 21/07/2020 00:05

I am glad ventilation is being taken more seriously. I mentioned in terms of schools for the last month on MN and RL and just got blank looks. It’s kind of vital.

IceCreamSummer20 · 21/07/2020 00:06

Also possibly secondary schools being more of a concern than primary...

CallmeAngelina · 21/07/2020 00:10

The issues are different - neither settings can expect the pupils to socially distance from one another, but whereas the very littlest ones at primary lick and sneeze in your face, they can be "bubbled" into slightly more manageable numbers than secondary.
But they're less likely to have the same transport issues with buses, and of course the the massive challenge of different groups for different subjects.
God knows what the answer is...

IloveJKRowling · 21/07/2020 00:15

Yes, ventilation is vital and it's something that's more difficult to achieve (and retain a classroom at a comfortable temperature) as the weather gets colder. Particularly if the government doesn't make any extra money available for heating costs.

CallmeAngelina · 21/07/2020 00:19

So, those of us with windows that open, and a configuration of those windows with doors that allows for a through-draught to generate, could ensure that at regular intervals (and throughout all breaks) those windows and doors are left open, regardless of the weather.
Better stock up on jumpers!
