So FUCKING angry!!! - SIL contacted by track and trace

Long story.

Short version. SIL who thought it was too dangerous to let her YR 6 go to school, yet lets my niece go up to a packed fucking playground has been contacted this morning at 11am to advise that a boy, who although didn't have direct contact with my Niece, was mixing with the group she was in and has tested positive.

My BIL turned up this morning at 8am and was standing at the front door, I had to pop to the kitchen and when I came back in he was holding DD2 kneeling on the floor whilst kissing DD1. I went mad. He left.

TBF he didn't know that this boy had tested positive but I'm now in fucking pieces. WTF do I do?? I'm a key worker so DD1 is currently at fucking school!!

Am I over reacting thinking that we've now got it, that I need to rush down the school and grab DD1 and order tests??

Sorry for all the swearing but I'm soooo pissed off at the lack of common sense that side of the family fucking have!! 🤬🤬🤬🤬

That’s not correct not shiny. One of our workers mother tested positive so he was tested. Whilst awaiting the results (He was asymptomatic but tested positive) he texted his two workmates who he shared a van with and they were able to go to a drive in test centre. They got their results the following day (both negative).

A child tested positive? Kids make up less than 2% of the people who test positive . So the chances are pretty slim that the infection 'chain' contains more kids. If it was me I'd wait to be contacted by the official track and trace folks unless I read it wrong. I can imagine many gossips are gonna have a field day .
A lot of this is because kids are more likely to be asymptomatic, isn't it, rather than they don't get it? So if we just tested everyone, kids would have it.

This has just happened at my partners work too. Someone tested positive and PHE actually came in (huge company) and said 14 people had to isolate and get tested, along with the person he car shares with.

My colleagues dad was also in contact with a confirmed case recently too and was told to get a test despite no symptoms due his wifes serious medical condition. He was actually positive but remained asymptomatic... But thankfully his wife never caught it!

I think the NHS have to say only get a test if you have symptoms to stop the system being completely overloaded with people wanting tests for the sake of it? Someone with health anxiety for example could be asking for tests every week.

It's disappointing that some aren't taking track and trace seriously or don't understand it. I've heard of multiple people who have been contacted and instead of isolating for 14 days, they're getting a test the next day and going out and about if it's negative.

The point is to isolate for 2 weeks because you can be incubating the virus. It doesn't develop straight away or show up on a test straight away.

Back to the thread, I'm dubious about all this talk of a false positive. If someone fiddles with the swab or does the test incorrectly, it will come back as Invalid or inconclusive and ask you to retest.

This all sounds like Chinese whispers from your sil. Confused and some backtracking because the family don't want to put their daughter in quarantine.
Perhaps it's all gossip and she wasn't contacted by track and trace at all, just heard about boy zero from Sandra on the estate who heard it from Kelly down the road.

BarbarianMum · 31/07/2020 12:08

Actual false positives are incredibly rare. Inconclusive results are common and can come about due to contaminated swabs, or from testing too early (little bit of viral protein in evidence but not enough).

And yes, kids get it just fine but are less likely to be tested for all sorts of reasons.
