Will the scheme persuade you to go out?

Heard a whisper about the 500 quid, thought we were all sposed to get that ? Rather have money to spend where I like than have to go out to eat and like pps have said a tenner won't pay for half a meal out unless you are going somewhere cheap anyway.

Lifeisabeach09 · 08/07/2020 15:34

Yes, I will if restaurants local to me participate

Helenj1977 · 08/07/2020 15:35

@FrugiFan thank you 😀 I hadn't spotted that part. It will be interesting to see who signs up.

confusedandtired99 · 08/07/2020 15:37

No. It’s a bit of an empty gesture

confusedandtired99 · 08/07/2020 15:38

Whereas £500 voucher most certainly would have helped the poorest families. It could have paid for food shopping for weeks for example

Sorryusernamealreadyexists · 08/07/2020 15:39

We live in the middle of nowhere so I double our local restaurants will participate. We don’t usually eat out on Mondays-Wednesdays anyway either

PurpleCalm · 08/07/2020 15:39

Can it be used on takeaway from a restaurant?

sHREDDIES19 · 08/07/2020 15:40

Definitely! Looking to book a week away in August so will be good for a discounted treat meal out.

Redolent · 08/07/2020 15:43

@PurpleCalm

Can it be used on takeaway from a restaurant?
Nope.
AlecTrevelyan006 · 08/07/2020 15:44

It’s not just about encouraging people to go out, it’s about giving eateries an incentive to remain open / reopen. Coupled with the vat reduction it aims to boost both consumer and business confidence

moolaalaa · 08/07/2020 15:44

Will not impact my decision to go out to eat. But the public are pretty gullible and many will lap it up because they think they are saving money.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 08/07/2020 15:44

I imagine I will take advantage of it at least once

fascinated · 08/07/2020 15:45

No, I won’t go, because restaurants are among the riskiest places to catch it.

viccat · 08/07/2020 15:45

No, definitely not. I'm not going anywhere non-essential at all and won't be for months... (working from home anyway so I can do this).

I've been supporting local take aways and bakeries that have offered deliveries throughout, though, and will continue doing that.

Egghead68 · 08/07/2020 15:45

No.

SwordBilledHummingbird · 08/07/2020 15:45

We just missed out on the stamp duty holiday to the tune of £11,500 so probably not Grin

AriettyHomily · 08/07/2020 15:45

Very rarely go out M-W and it will probably be all the chains that I don't really like anyway so no.

LovingLen · 08/07/2020 15:47

Unfortunately we are back from our caravan holiday by August or we would have definitely used it whilst on holiday, much less likely to use it at home

Herewegoagain56 · 08/07/2020 15:50

Yes I will definitely use it if local cafes are using the scheme

EnglishGirlApproximately · 08/07/2020 15:50

Depending on the rate of infection in my area when it kicks in its something we would probably do. We tend to eat out midweek rather than weekends anyway as it's nice to not have to cook after work and places are generally more casual so great when taking kids. It might make us go weekly rather than fortnightly if places we enjoy sign up.

BigSpringy · 08/07/2020 15:51

I'd be amazed if restaurants etc pass these savings on to the customer. I would expect them to keep most/all of it towards the lost revenue of the last few months.

Baaaahhhhh · 08/07/2020 15:52

Yes, especially the local restaurants with outside space. With that, plus the 15% reduction in VAT, that's quite a saving. We'd eat out anyway, and not fussed which nights. Everywhere is always heaving round here all week.

No because no decent independent restaurant is generally open on those days

This comment made me laugh - where on earth do you live???? As per above, all our local restaurants are open 7 days a week, often with two sittings, so definitely depends where you live.

Cattermole · 08/07/2020 15:52

Crikey yes! Looking forward to taking mum out - she was saying earlier she can't wait to get out to a restaurant with us all.

PatriciaHolm · 08/07/2020 15:55

Sure, with the kids during summer, probably lunch rather than dinner I guess but sure.

DamitJanet · 08/07/2020 15:55

Yes, assuming the places I would like to go participate. Keen to see the small print in this, if done right I think it could be a great thing for a lot of the hospitality sector. (Vested interest admittedly due to DH’s business)
