Will the scheme persuade you to go out?

Blue Brian is the same poster going around posting the same doom article on numerous threads about long time covid from the Guardian right

Can see why would be a doomer on the eating out too- most is us don;t eat junk food thanks and capable of choosing somewhere clean and airy.

WanderingLost167 · 08/07/2020 17:20

definitely will, have two holidays booked in the UK that month

MrKlaw · 08/07/2020 17:21

sod off. Honestly its just like a bloody taste card. I get that hospitality is hurting but so is the high street generally. And even if we all go, they will still have limited capacity with distancing. Just give the money directly to them to help cover reduced income due to dead tables/low capacity

Newdaynewname1 · 08/07/2020 17:24

With kids and working:
-work until 5

  • get kids 5:30
  • get to a restaurant around 6
  • get a seat, get menu etc- food by 6:30 if you are lucky, more likely 6:45
  • kids are incredibly tired and hangry, so wolf food down, leave asap. nope, not my idea of fun.
i rather order a takeaway that is at home at 6pm, and pay £10 more.
SunshineCake · 08/07/2020 17:26

No. We would have gone out for lunch this Friday in normal times but won't be now. We'll go once we feel it is safe and the risk is minimal. Day one of pubs reopening and already three have had to shut that we know about so no, staying in thank you.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 08/07/2020 17:26

@BlueBrian I vote Labour and I hate this government. I'm just not a misery guts.

lifesalongsong · 08/07/2020 17:27

@BlueBrian

Oh look the Tory shills have turned up to try a flog this stupid idea.
You know nothing about my politics, what an odd assumption that anyone who can see that this scheme could be a real boost to struggling restaurants would be some kind of government mouthpiece.

No restaurant has to take part, no customer has to got out to eat, why are you being so negative?

I have two family members who work in local independent pub eateries, if this helps them get over a lean time so that they and their co-workers can maybe avoid redundancy I say give it a try, it's for a limited time and is likely to cost relatively little in the grand scheme of things.

Cloudburstagain · 08/07/2020 17:30

No because I am on shielding list and that is not allowed even when shielding paused according to my letter

zingally · 08/07/2020 17:32

No, because it still means spending money I haven't got.

IAintentDead · 08/07/2020 17:32

And only @SimonJT has spotted the elephant (or something) in the room.

xanthippe8 · 08/07/2020 17:35

My birthday falls on a Wednesday in August and we're definitely going to go out for dinner. The restaurant I've got my eye on seems to have a safe as poss system in place, I'll make sure I go to the loo at home just before we leave!

back2good · 08/07/2020 17:36

A couple of weeks ago this Govt were telling us they couldn't give £90 to the poorest families to feed their children over the Summer yet now they want to pay us all to eat in restaurants. They can fuck off

Agree 100%.

Catering to the middle class happily but had to be shamed into supporting hungry poor children.

Orangeblossom78 · 08/07/2020 17:39

It's not an argument they haven't given the school meal vouchers over the summer, really as they did. Confused

(and no, not a 'shrill')

BubblyBarbara · 08/07/2020 17:40

It's the most stupid idea I've ever heard of. It's clearly aimed at middle class types and not who actually needs the help. I'd rather they fed all NHS staff for free for August instead.

We all know people who are addicted to coupons or getting a deal and they will all be out running around in August making the most of this silly offer increasing the spread of the virus even more. Sigh.

littlbrowndog · 08/07/2020 17:40

Feminist move by the chancellor. 😂😂😂😂

Akrotiri1 · 08/07/2020 17:41

50% off is not enough of an incentive for me and mine.

Especially as we have been told to avoid these exact environments for the last 4 mnths…….

SockYarn · 08/07/2020 17:42

Totally. All those poor impoverished hospital consultants and senior managers on the minimum wage. Hmm

Weepinggreenwillow · 08/07/2020 17:43

I would. I would go out now for a meal now if I could . Sadly it seems all the places I have tried will only take bookings for a mximum of 6 people. We are a family of 8 (me, dh and 6 teen/adult dc all living in same house) so means we cant go out together for the forseeable future so will be sticking to take aways.

Sorry but parents should be able to feed children easy, a lot of it is people can’t budget properly or plan meals

Universal credit has gone up

Why shouldn’t middle class get anything

PirateWeasel · 08/07/2020 17:44

We live in the middle of nowhere so unless the local cafes, pubs and garden centre restaurants are doing it, we won't be taking it up.

Mrskeats · 08/07/2020 17:44

So working class people don't eat out bubble?
Utter rubbish. The point is to keep the hospitality sector going. Which is a huge employer.

Weepinggreenwillow · 08/07/2020 17:45

sockyarn I'm an NHS worker. We are still be inundated with free sandwhiches and easter Eggs (yes, bloody Easter Eggs still!!) so all is well. Grin

Chaosreigns123 · 08/07/2020 17:46

Probably not.

I really don't feel like going into a restaurant at the moment and a bit of money off Monday-Wednesday isn't enough to tempt me.

I also feel that we should all be trying to get healthier not go and sit down and eat more junk food. Not saying this applies to everyone, but I'd rather go swimming.

SockYarn · 08/07/2020 17:47

@Weepinggreenwillow I am back into the charity shop where I volunteer tomorrow - we closed in march with shelves full of Easter eggs.

Will make a mental note that they won't be appreciated at the local hospitals!!

Gingerkittykat · 08/07/2020 17:48

Yes, if it applies in Scotland and it's not just chains.

There's a pub in my next village I've been meaning to try for a long time since I've heard amazing things about the food. I would love to go back to my local Japanese place which can be pretty expensive but £10 off would tip the balance between going and not going.

I'm sure a lot of working people can manage to go for a low key meal after work.

I read earlier that in Scotland they estimate 38 cases per 100 000 of the population. As long as people are taking precautions I think eating out is low risk right now.
