First English pubs to close in coronavirus scares days after lockdown eased
The Lighthouse Kitchen & Carvery in Burnham-on-Sea, The Fox & Hounds, in Batley, West Yorkshire, and The Village Home Pub in Alverstoke, Hampshire, have all announced a customers has tested positive for coronavirus

So the pubs opened Saturday,if you realised early next morning that you felt unwell even if you got a test Sunday it's unlikely that you'd get a result on Monday.
Anyway, the pubs have all contacts names so track and trace can get busy.

LemonTT · 07/07/2020 01:52

Well they must of went to the pub feeling ill or having just been tested. I expect they used their fabled common sense to decide what was for the best.

HeIenaDove · 07/07/2020 02:25

Good opportunity to see if/how track and trace this way works.

There will probably be a lot more but on the positive side people have come forward.

Rebelwithallthecause · 07/07/2020 05:49

Probably just a scaremongering article to stop some people going to pubs maybe?
I can’t see how they’d know already so screams of fake news

This is just a childish response.

The newspaper knows because the pubs confirmed it, the pubs know because customers told them.

Fake news is so 2016!

Closures will happen as we ease lockdown, in some pubs, business and schools. I think this is normal and to be expected and not necessarily a cause for concern UNLESS our track and trace system can not handle it effectively.

No reason to think it is fake news.

Rebelwithallthecause · 07/07/2020 05:54

Pubs opened on Saturday
The article was written Monday.
No it’s not possible for them to have been tested of symptoms on the Sunday and for the papers to have the news on Monday Hmm

Rebelwithallthecause · 07/07/2020 05:55

It’s also the mirror, which is made up of non articles

WentworthPrison · 07/07/2020 05:55

Rebel - they didn't necessarily catch it at the pub but could have passed it on there. The turn around for tests can be really quick in most cases so it may not be scaremongering or fake news. My friend had a cough last week so went online to book a test. She went online on Sunday morning, got a test Sunday lunchtime and had the result by Monday morning. Less than 24 hours from start to finish. Hers was negative.

Rebelwithallthecause · 07/07/2020 05:56

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not surprised if this does cause spikes.
But if the news had been written by a reliable source middle of the week when they actually had a chance to collate real valid information then I would believe it

Rebelwithallthecause · 07/07/2020 05:57

People who go to the pub with symptoms and then decide to get tested would be 100% idiots though

Anyone going to the pub Saturday, then has symptoms Sunday and decides to request a test would not receive one until Monday using the governments testing service

labyrinthloafer · 07/07/2020 06:02

The BBC has the same story, the customers got tests and told the pubs. The pubs put it on Facebook. The newspapers reported that.

Of course you can get tests on Sundays and Mondays. The whole point is tests are rapid - the govt was aiming to get them done in 24 hours.

FoolsAssassin · 07/07/2020 06:02

It’s on the BBC and I have only looked at the Burnham one but their FB page confirms it.
There will be closures, that’s the point of T and T and hopefully will help prevent it getting a hold again.

It is possible.

In fact it has happened.

ElizabethMainwaring · 07/07/2020 06:06

Neighbours who live opposite my local have told me that there was a absolutely zero distancing there on Saturday.
Pub was packed with people watching the local derby.
I'm in Derby, which is perilously close to both Leicester and Sheffield.
It's horrendous. If I'd had a crystal ball I would have moved to Wales.

SoloMummy · 07/07/2020 06:08

It's not fake news.
www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/uk-england-53315702

And to those saying its to be expected. Yes, only because they should never have opened yet!

Useruseruserusee · 07/07/2020 06:09

I can believe people would go to the pub with symptoms. Last week we had a child with symptoms (fever and cough) come to school. Obviously it will be a tiny minority that will do this but it will happen.

Rebelwithallthecause · 07/07/2020 06:12

That’s absolutely shocking in that case

And bloody yoga schools aren’t allowed to open FFS

StealthPolarBear · 07/07/2020 06:13

Isn't this why they took names and details? Sounds like it's all being handled properly to me.
Did people really think the virus was gone?

ElizabethMainwaring · 07/07/2020 06:15

What's the point in closing the pubs?
Surely that particular horse has already bolted?

StealthPolarBear · 07/07/2020 06:16

Yes agree with that.

labyrinthloafer · 07/07/2020 06:17

@stealthpolarbear I think the issue is we still have high levels of virus in England, compared to other countries. So it'll make reopening really tough on businesses and employees - each pub that shuts means lost income and lost wages.

We shut too late, and then opened too early, both of which mean we will have more of this than needed.

The system may work, but really you want businesses not to need to do that very often.

The government seem to be treating it as health or economy. The two go together.

Lol. Never been more proud of our country than when we exhibit our once-fabled common sense. So great to finally see it in action. We've got this 🙌🏽

To clean and check staff don't have it. It is vital to do that.
