I guess the science has officially left the building. The threat of 3.5 million job losses in the hospitality sector had swung it.

@Sudoko but for us in England and Wales we have until mid - end July left

strugglingwithdeciding · 08/06/2020 23:43

@DisobedientHamster and I would too but so many wouldn't and then unions and teachers wouldn't open or woke in schools if this was to happen

Not everyone who goes to a pub slobbers drunkenly over people Hmm Some of us can manage a couple of drinks outside in a civilised manner.

However I won't be first in the queue, I'll give it a week or two, let some get it out of their system and let the pubs sort out the finer details. One issue I see will be the entitled few kicking off when they aren't allowed in due to space or reservations being full.

The inability to open schools shows what poor educational infrastructure we have.
Too few teachers, large class sizes, many crowded Victorian buildings.

If they can't open schools now, what is going to change in September? CV is unlikely to vanish.

So maybe open the pubs so we can all have drunken arguments over how it all went wrong.

They really need to open pubs to give some sort of structure back to the drinking culture because people are basically running their own pubs in their back gardens at the moment (round me anyway) and that kind of unregulated free pour, drugs ahoy partying is where you end up with fandoms shagging under a bush (true story) for the whole neighbourhood to “enjoy” and that’s just one amusing dimension to a wider problem where people prone to alcohol and drug abuse are getting sucked down a rabbit hole right now with the lockdown mentality of “nothing to do so might as well get drunk”...

Bringing back pubs brings back some societal boundaries that give people a destination, a start and end point for their social drinking. No it won’t help or change the deeply entrenched alcoholics ( two of my friends who had been doing better with their drinking pre lockdown are back to their old ways) but it will take some of them out of your neighbour‘s flat and back into public view, thereby tempering their behaviour.

That’s what pubs are for at the end of the day.
