I guess the science has officially left the building. The threat of 3.5 million job losses in the hospitality sector had swung it.

I was correcting my original post, @Bluntness100. My husband is a chef and I’ve already lost my own job due to the pandemic so I’d rather he didn’t lose his too.

jasjas1973 · 08/06/2020 21:28

Opening the pubs boosts Johnsons popularity and it looks like yet again, rightly, he takes us all for idiots.... the economic argument is bollocks or he wouldn't have gone for the travel quarantine.

HesterShaw1 · 08/06/2020 21:35

I can't bloody wait!

Myothercarisalsoshit · 08/06/2020 21:37

I'm very pleased about this. My partner is a barman. I need him out and earning money.

strugglingwithdeciding · 08/06/2020 21:53

Good can't wait

DisobedientHamster · 08/06/2020 21:59

YAY! I'll be first in the queue.

bigchris · 08/06/2020 22:02

Agree it's time to end lockdown

They can do it gradually all summer if they like but ckme Sept ember schools need to open for all kids otherwise the economy is shafted

We need to work , use childcare, kids need to be educated, teachers can't be working in schools and providing online learning for kids at home

bigchris · 08/06/2020 22:04

Tim Martin wants Pubs open and the Government agrees

I don't agree with this at all

Where I am Wetherspoons don't be opening ad they don't have gardens

Plus he never wanted to close and was made to

bigchris · 08/06/2020 22:05

Won't be opening as they don't have gardens

strugglingwithdeciding · 08/06/2020 22:07

Op do you think maybe schools is down to a great reluctance from teachers , parents , unions etc as to do social distancing in schools is hard with small numbers and impossible with all in as our schools are just not big enough and we wouldn't have enough teachers to staff so it's an impossible one for now and they have made a start with schools but it's harder

tinkerbellla · 08/06/2020 22:16

Large white wine please Smile

strugglingwithdeciding · 08/06/2020 22:17

So how many of you complaining about education wild send your kids to school tomorrow with it full of pupils , no social distancing and a full day etc , because if schools went back that's the reality

strugglingwithdeciding · 08/06/2020 22:18

By what I've read Germany went back gradually as well and different states different ways times etc

strugglingwithdeciding · 08/06/2020 22:22

@already taken plenty of food deliveries where I am
And you know you don't have to be a drunk to enjoy the pub plus I've read only pubs that will be doing food so not about just drinking and it's not even a certainty it will happen
People On here just seem to like to complain about anything , and need to realise no economy no nhs , no education , no benefits pensions etc

itsgettingweird · 08/06/2020 22:22

And people have always missed the point re schools and unions.

The government said workplaces could open with strict Covid secure guidelines. Social distancing, masks, one way systems etc.

Shops can open with same rules.

There was much talk of these Covid secure workplaces.

They then said schools don't have to and shouldn't have to follow the same as kids are less risk. Totally forgetting all the adults required to provide the day to day running of schools who should also have have Covid secure workplaces.

AnyFucker · 08/06/2020 22:25

Bring. It. On.

strugglingwithdeciding · 08/06/2020 22:25

@Barbie222 year 10 selected as they are doing gcse next year so but a lot of catch up time , yr 6 to help with transition of moving schools , r and yr 1 as I believe studies to show these groups news the interaction and the idea was to phase all of primary in before summer term
It's not too hard too see why the age group chosen , why years would you if chose ?

NowImLivinInExeter · 08/06/2020 22:25

Good, I'd be in a restaurant today if they were open.

strugglingwithdeciding · 08/06/2020 22:30

@itsgettingweird they still said social distancing has to be followed and small class sizes which makes it impossible for schools to fully open due to lack of space , it was o mh bo ppe needed that wasn't same as shops really , and most shop staff don't wear them anyway

Tomorrow - no as there’s not much point with 2 weeks of school left.

In August - absolutely. This is what I want to happen. Schools fully open, no SD.

JustTryingToGetThroughThis · 08/06/2020 23:05

In my local area we have a wetherspoons and 4 ' backstreet'pubs all within 5 min walk.
The 4 backstreet ones have stayed open throughout.
You see their regulars queue at back or side door. They put paper over the windows or closed curtains. You can hear the people In there. I 100%know this is true as I have heard it myself and my 'stepdad' is one of those regulars ( I do not agree but he's one of those who thinks this whole thing is a joke and no one can tell him what to)

Nat6999 · 08/06/2020 23:14

It's discriminatory, many pubs haven't got outside areas, what happens when it's raining? They would have been better sorting rules so all pubs can open. Where I live there are 4 pubs, 3 without outside space & 1 with limited space. Most nights all the pubs are busy & at weekends they are packed, surely it would have been better to open them all so that customers can spread out?

YinuCeatleAyru · 08/06/2020 23:18

not actually true at all though

I can’t wait to go for a pub lunch and a cider in a beer garden - delightful

I would. My teen daughter would probably flatten me on her way to get to the door.
