I too feel like it's all part of a jolly game to see how much they can get away with. For BJ, he just wanted to see if he could get the top job but without having to do any of the hard work that goes along with it. For DC, definitely just to see how we can be played.
For someone who is supposed to be a mastermind strategist he is either incredibly stupid to make certain comments (I don't think he's stupid), or incredibly clever and we're part of some giant scenario to test our gullibility, our compliance, our intelligence, our integrity, our collective humanity. I'm going with the latter.
The rambling 'make the statement fit the timeline' shite that he came away with was astonishing enough and he might just have gotten away with it until the utterly incredulous statement that he went for a drive to test his eyesight. That's up there with the inject bleach statement by Trump. That was the giant, in your face, 'fuck you lot I'm untouchable' side ball chucked in.
As for the press. Yes they can be vile but bloody hell they mustn't stop asking hard questions and this lot must be held to account or we're definitely in Trumpland. My biggest problem with the press is not thinking fast enough on their feet to ask the questions the public are screaming at the TV from their sofas:
- you thought your wife had Covid and was worried enough to drive to Durham but you still came back into work before you headed off
- you did this because you were worried for the safety of your child but you then stuck same child in back of car whilst you tested your eyesight
- you went to Durham to get help from family but then didn't even use them to help take child/wife to/from hospital because you didn't want to infect them, so why go in the first place?
- your circumstances are not exceptional to millions of other households in this land who have less privileges than you. They didn't follow their instincts to stick to the rules, why should you be allowed to follow yours?
- if your London home was a security risk why were you so desperate to return there?
- did you phone the police?
- why couldn't you use Zoom for meetings?
- why didn't you contact family/friends in London?
- why did you think driving to test your eyes was a good idea?
- why did your son need a pee on a half hour journey but managed ok on a 4 hour one?
The list goes on and on and his story now has more holes and thrown up even more questions.
But that aside, he is just one person, it's the Government's attitude in dealing with it that is more damning than DC's actions.
It's a big game and we're being played. We are not making sacrifices for the greater good, we are the sacrifices (so said Fintan O'Toole).
