In the guidance it says if you have the virus and you have children all the GUIDANCE may not be possible but you must do your best

The guidance out at the time said absolutely nothing about what you should do about childcare if you have the virus. Several weeks after DC's 1st trip to Durham, Jennie Harries made a vague reference to being allowed to use family for childcare in an emergency. Probably word had got round in Westminster about Cummings by then and they were trying to change the guidance retrospectively.

MarginalGain · 24/05/2020 20:44

It's not the left that's pissed off, I"m hardly a leftie and I think he's got to go.

Literally the whole country is angry apart from the Editor of the Telegraph, 80% of Tory MPs, and Susie Owl.

Tory MPs are not happy.

countrygirl99 · 24/05/2020 20:47

susieowl listen to the government adverts, Cummings was responsible for these. Now consider his actions in light of these. Consider all the peop,e who haven't visited sick or grieving relatives . Consider all the people who have struggled to care for their own children while sick. Now do you still think Cummings actions were ok. If not the government must have been giving bad advice. Which of those do you think it was?

MarginalGain · 24/05/2020 21:22

I noticed Steve Baker had some Hayek on display today on his interview.

Allergictoironing · 24/05/2020 21:32

You don’t know he stopped anywhere on the journey . ? ?
Equally you don't know he DIDN'T stop, but I know very few 4 year olds who can go at least 4 hours in a car without needing a stop.

He went to another house and self isolated ?
Yes, he WENT TO ANOTHER HOUSE - in direct contravention of the rules as shown by many pp above, so why the ?? to that - that's one of the things people are unhappy about!

His parents put food on his doorstep ? He did not go shopping ?
Nobody said he did go shopping.

His child in the end did not need to go to his parents .
Yep, means the whole journey was unnecessary anyway Hmm

In the guidance it says if you have the virus and you have children all the GUIDANCE may not be possible but you must do your best .

Yes do your best. So why didn't he call on his WIFE'S family, in LONDON, rather than go to Durham? Surely that would be possible, even if not particularly preferable to him.

SimonJT · 24/05/2020 21:39

@SusieOwl4 So you think a four year old can do a 5 hour car trip without needing the toilet? Have you ever actually met a four year old.

If you’re unable to copy the guidelines you are reading you can type the url into a post.

DateLoaf · 24/05/2020 21:41

He needs to just go

WhiteChocTwix · 24/05/2020 21:46

Dom and BJ are both a disgrace. I haven't seen my Dad with MND since March. My poor mum lives alone and asked me tonight if I thought things might be relaxed a little bit so we could be together come Thursday. It's a bloody whitewash. Dom needs to fuck off and Keir needs to destroy BJ. I'm absolutely disgusted. Absolute whitewash.

BIWI · 24/05/2020 21:47

And once again @SusieOwl4, because you seem to be hard of thinking. This was the guidance issued by the government which Dominic Cummings wilfully ignored:

DO NOT LEAVE HOME IF YOU OR SOMEONE YOU LIVE WITH HAS ANY OF THE FOLLOWING:

a high temperature
a new, continuous cough
a loss of, or change to, your sense of smell or taste

If you don't believe me you can go and check it out at the government's own website!

vera99 · 24/05/2020 22:10

If they was on fire and I'd had half a bottle of gin I would rather piss myself than give either of them a drop. (x10)

lissie123 · 24/05/2020 22:20

www.spectator.co.uk/article/getting-coronavirus-does-not-bring-clarity
Dominic’s wife Mary Wakefield wrote this- no mention of Durham visits. Rubbish with links sorry.

vera99 · 24/05/2020 23:22

Be careful what you wish for…”.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 24/05/2020 23:31

What I can't get my head around is

  1. The journey was preemptive of needing the childcare - childcare they ended up not needing and so it was UNNECESSARY (unnecessary journeys were against the rules)
  2. Had DC needed the childcare then the child would have gone to another household in a completely different area of the country from his home - most probably spreading the virus! Again going against the rules!
  3. Had DC and or his wife been made severely unwell and needed hospitalisation they would have been taken to the nearest hospital - again at great risk of spreading the virus and therefore going AGAINST the rules that were put in place to "stop the spread of the virus"

So...whichever way this is looked at DC BROKE the rules and he should be sacked.

kateandme · 25/05/2020 02:35

someones screenshotting all the rules right?i dont put it past them to change(docter) them now!

twinnywinny14 · 25/05/2020 06:15

@SusieOwl4 the fact that he didn’t use his family for childcare is actually almost worse- the journey wasn’t necessary then was it? If you need childcare in an emergency or if both parents are really too ill then childcare is needed of course. But DC and his wife looked after their child themselves and didn’t need childcare so that part of the story doesn’t make sense does it? The only thing the family helped with was food- and we are meant to believe that couldn’t have been done for them in London? Put that together with the fact that you should stay at home when you have symptoms it is pretty clear he broke the rules. The rules btw that he helped create and expected everyone else to follow but not himself. If BJ expects us to reach the same conclusion as him then perhaps he should start sharing the same information as he had from DC, because as it stands none of it makes sense to most of the public

Yester · 25/05/2020 07:35

Thank fuck the Daily Mail has turned against DC. The end must be nigh. I was so angry on behalf of all the people who have made terrible terrible sacrifices. Who have couldn't be with their dying loved ones. I thought I had reached a level of apathy due to the awfulness of this government but this seems to have made me want to revolt (in a social distanced sort of way!)

QueenofmyPrinces · 25/05/2020 08:12

I have just watched the briefing and blimey it was embarrassing.

This must be the start of the end for Boris.

I loved the part when he finished answering someone’s question about Cummings and on the television screen you could see the gentleman who had asked the question rolling his eyes - clearly to say, what a load of pointless and avoidance shit BJ’s response was.

Watching Boris defend Cummings was awful - I’m sure everyone saw right through it and it makes a mockery of all the sacrifices the rest of us have made.

The scorn Boris showed to those asking the questionnaires was horrendous, he came across as so rude.

I was watching the entire thing in disbelief.

What a untrustworthy, lying, deceitful man he came across as.

I have always been nonchalant about Boris, I haven’t been impressed about his handling of Corona but I never felt any bad feelings towards him as a person - however, watching him last night and completely changed my view of him and feeling nothing but embarrassment that he is our Prime Minister.

All respect for him has gone and I imagine many people across the nation will feel the same.

EducatingArti · 25/05/2020 10:46

I think they've changed the wording for 4 th test for coming out of lock down too.
It now says testing capacity "in hand". I thought it used to say test, track and trace " in place".

1forsorrow · 25/05/2020 12:19

Watched a clip of yesterday's briefing. Then watched the NZ PM smiling while telling the interviewer there was an earthquake. Such a contrast.

ButteryPuffin · 25/05/2020 12:24

He must be gutted he pushed for this gig now.

Absolutely @Blennyfish and I hope he doesn't get another moment of peace the whole time he's in Downing St. He doesn't deserve any.

1forsorrow · 25/05/2020 12:42

DC going to make a statement and answer questions this afternoon.

QueenofmyPrinces · 25/05/2020 13:03
