Can someone explain where I have this wrong ? Him and his wife had the virus , they moved to another home to be close to their parents in case they needed some help with their child if they were too ill ? They then stayed in that second home self isolating . They did not need their parents help . The parents just got shopping and put it on the door . The other trip is not proven ? And all of the above is covered in the details of lock down ? So what am I missing ? And what on earth were the hypocrites of the press doing completely ignoring social distancing rules outside his house ?
Exactly.

derxa · 24/05/2020 18:42

Steve Baker has a very clear moral compass. He is certainly right wing but he's not amoral like Boris. Confused

DuncinToffee · 24/05/2020 18:43

Having a go at the left doesn't really work when so many Conservatives are condemming Johnson and Cummings, must do better with excuses.

Supper16 · 24/05/2020 18:44

@category12 unfortunately my MP is Rhys-Mogg. Wouldn't touch him with a bargepole even through the internet!!

cuparfull · 24/05/2020 18:44

Nooooo Nooooo Boris how could you hang the country and all our efforts and sacrifices out to dry! How could you defend him?

Cummings should not have travelled anywhere given they had CV19 symptoms....end of!
And he should not have lied about the police speaking to a member of his family.
How much more will it take for the PM to step up to the plate.
The PM has now fatally undermined any future advice given to the country.
Cummings colleagues could have rallied round. Someone could have dropped off food at his door. There were other people a lot worse off that kept to government rules and now this!
Shame on you Prime Minister twisting the rules to your own end.
Lets have someone now GPS Cummings phone signals whilst on lockdown

MsSafina · 24/05/2020 18:47

Lesson for Cummings who could probably have taken a low profile but highly paid job. Don't ever do anything for the Tories or for that matter, any of the political parties, as they are the most venal, sub human, low life, crawling and sewer scum who would stab their own grandmother's in the back and front.

Grumpyoldblonde · 24/05/2020 18:48

Well he and his wife wrote about their trying to look after the boy during their illness in the spectator with no mention of being at the second home

www.politicshome.com/news/article/dominic-cummings-collapsed-and-was-in-bed-for-10-days-after-contracting-coronavirus-wife-reveals

Anyway it looks like another revelation is brewing on Twitter.

GabsAlot · 24/05/2020 18:49

what an absolute shitshow-he travelled to stop the virus spreading?

he sounds like trump babbling nonsense-whats the fucking point

fishfingersandtrashtv · 24/05/2020 18:51

So then in the height of coronavirus outbreak with 600 deaths + per day at the first sign of symptoms instead of self-isolating in the home away even from other family members, we could all have got into our car and definitely given the virus to our immediate family, and driven hundreds of miles away, stopping for petrol or toilet breaks in the open if necessary just in case we needed childcare from our elderly parents or other family members nearby.
While legal, if we had all done this truly selfish act, then it could have had grave consequences. It was also not in the spirit of the guidelines issued by the government for everyone as a whole.
Secondly, this is a key senior advisor - he should set an example.
Boris did not answer the question when asked whether it was OK then to travel for childcare while symptomatic instead of isolating in the home. Clearly, he still wants us all to follow the guidelines. Isolate at home in a separate room, don't leave the house.

Allergictoironing · 24/05/2020 18:55

Well in simple terms, the guidance states that if you show symptoms of Covid 19 than you immediately stay at your main residence/home. It specifies NOT travelling to another home for isolation purposes - which is exactly what DC did. There is also the question of whether a 4 year old, and a vomiting adult (DC's wife) were able to take part in a 4 hour journey without any breaks - if they DID choose a route where they could have a pee and vom break, then they would have been on the road for much longer.

The concession for childcare which Boris made such an issue of for if there were no other possible arrangement, but DC did have extended family in London so presumably could have used them rather than his aged parents.

teddyclown · 24/05/2020 18:56

There was a documentary on Channel 4 on 30th April following people living with coronavirus. In particular a couple with a child, both parents were ill and it was heartbreaking to watch. It's still on catch up, but not for much longer:

1forsorrow · 24/05/2020 18:56

Steve Baker is an arch Brexiteer who thought he would get a cabinet post. He didn't and this is his chance to stick the knife in. So does that make him left wing because according to some this is all just nastiness from the left. So is Steve Baker left wing? Or the other Tory MPs who have spoken out?

Allergictoironing · 24/05/2020 18:57

..if they DID choose a route where they could have a pee and vom break.. should have had "without seeing any other people e.g. a field rather than a service station"

SimonJT · 24/05/2020 18:59

@SusieOwl4 The governments own rules state why it is wrong.

Boris is being unfurloughed for tonight's briefing
SusieOwl4 · 24/05/2020 19:01

@Allergictoironing

It does not specifically say you can not go to a second home to self isolate which is why the press are saying he broke the “spirit” of the rules . They know he did not break the rules enough to be fined .

Haffiana · 24/05/2020 19:03

The bit where they knowingly travelled right across the country whilst infected with virus?

You got it entirely right. You just don't seem to understand what you have written. Confused Confused

SimonJT · 24/05/2020 19:03

@SusieOwl4 Also from official government guidelines.

Boris is being unfurloughed for tonight's briefing
doubleshotespresso · 24/05/2020 19:03

@jugglingbeans here is OED word of the day for you

Boris is being unfurloughed for tonight's briefing
MaxNormal · 24/05/2020 19:05

SusieOwl4 that is literally exactly what it says in the link Simon has posted.

nannieann · 24/05/2020 19:07

At this moment in time it feels like we don't have a government. Who will accept the leadership of a bumbling idiot, who has now shown himself to be under the control of a self-centred arrogant and unelected puppet-master ?

TheFairyCaravan · 24/05/2020 19:11

I've written to my MP too.

Im so angry about this that it's brought me to tears. My son is 23, we've had conversations about his funeral, just incase, because he's a nurse in A&E and it took weeks for him to get the correct PPE. After one really, really bad day he phoned me in tears and sobbed down the phone "I just want people to stay in mum because I'm sick of seeing people dying alone." It broke me and it still does so to learn that this absolute wanker, who wrote the rules, has such blatant disregard for them and then for Boris to hold his hands up and say "who cares" has really, really pissed me off.

This isn't a right or left issue, it's a right or wrong issue and if you could look into the eyes of 13yo Ismail Mohamed Abdulwahab's mum who couldn't attend his funeral, or hold his hand while he died, and say that what Dominic Cummings did was ok then, imo, you've got something wrong with your moral compass

WrongKindOfFace · 24/05/2020 19:13

Latest Government update:

If you vote for clowns, you get a circus.

TheWordWomanIsTaken · 24/05/2020 19:13

Why did, three times, Johnson clearly say that Cummings did what he did to 'stop the spread of Covid'. What does he mean by this - Cummings's behaviour did the complete opposite in that it had the potential to spread the virus.
Was Johnson that flustered that he got a bit confused?
I'm guessing he was probably a bit discombobulated what with having to do a few hours work - especially on a Sunday.

Allergictoironing · 24/05/2020 19:14

SuzieOwl4 so what part of "Essential travel does not include visits to second homes, camp sites, caravan parks, or similar whether for isolating purposes or holidays" means travelling to an alternative home to self isolate is within the rules?
