Why can't he just answer a question straight?
And also if you have children did he just suggest you tell your employer and stay home? That is not going to go down well!

I cannot listen to Gavin Williamson's voice; I've had to swap over to Sky News.

I really want to understand why it's the Y1 and Reception age groups; not because I have a stake (DS is Y5 and we're all fine at home), but I can't work how they reached that judgement and it bothers me!

YesIDoLoveCrisps · 13/05/2020 12:56

Has anyone seen his reply when he’s asked what shampoo he uses?
I feel like that can’t be a real answer. Yet it is.
I am so confused by what’s going on and that shampoo answer sums it all up really.
Confused

Alsohuman · 13/05/2020 13:02

What shampoo answer?

lyralalala · 13/05/2020 13:15

He has now ignored a similarly worded twice. I image if it was literally the only question he was asked by an MP he would still manage to ignore it.

His comments about releasing the information to show how decisions were made sounded very open and up front. Until the "in due course" tagged on the end.

How he's back in the cabinet is a mystery.

lyralalala · 13/05/2020 13:21

What shampoo answer?

He was asked in a Twitter video Q&A (Jan 22nd if anyone wants to have a look) what shampoo he uses.

He replied "Well, Mark I honestly don't know what shampoo I use, it's the same stuff that I use for all sorts of cleaning purposes and it's blue, that's all I know, it's blue.

But it comes in a sort of tube, it is plastic, we've got to get down, got to reduce the plastic consumption of this country and we've got other plans to do that."

So did he answer the question about the year 1 returning?

So did he answer the question about the year 1 returning?

No. He was asked by 2 MPs why the youngest children would be going back despite knowing they cannot socially distance and he ignored it both times.

lyralalala · 13/05/2020 13:24

@smithtylater He dodged it twice before BBC News channel cut away

QueenofmyPrinces · 13/05/2020 13:25

The fact they can’t give a genuine reason as to why Reception and Year 1’s are going back first is very telling.

Smithtylater · 13/05/2020 13:28

I once worked in reception class for work experience and i saw children actually put their fingers in each others noses so good luck with socially distancing a whole class of them!

It is indeed. Sad

The fact they can’t give a genuine reason as to why Reception and Year 1’s are going back first is very telling.

Well anyone with any intelligence knows that it's because if they tell the truth and say its because they need to get their parents back to work instead of pretending its because these childrens education will suffer they all know it wouldn't look look good.

JamieLeeCurtains · 13/05/2020 13:55

I missed PMQs but will try to catch up.

Oh Lord here's Rees-Mogg on Parliament Live, like the return of the undead.

BiarritzCrackers · 13/05/2020 14:07

In terms of getting parents back to work, I thought it more likely that children in Y3-6 would have both parents in work, than those younger - lots of infant school children may have babies and toddler siblings, so more likely to have a SAHP in the family than when all children of a family unit are aged 6+. If they want the maximum amount of parents freed up, you'd think those with older children would be the target group.

Obviously, there are thousands of families where both parents of small children will be in work from babyhood on, and that some people will have one Y6, one Y3 and one Reception, and all sorts of variables.

TinySleepThief · 13/05/2020 14:07

You didn't miss much. It was another shambolic performance and another 40 minutes of my life wasted listening to lies and waffle.

BiarritzCrackers · 13/05/2020 14:10

And even when there a crisis, such irritating questions from Tory BBers, "will you say how great Hay festival is?" and "will you come and ride on our railway?". Such a waste.

JamieLeeCurtains · 13/05/2020 14:16

Peter Bone MP (Conservative) just had a pop at Rees-Mogg about the Government's woeful communication and Johnson's Sunday night speech

Bourbonbiccy · 13/05/2020 14:25

I don't want to read the thread as I m getting really angry with the whole thing.....but I absolutely love the hearing of this and will be using that phrase at every given opportunity think you OP

Alsohuman · 13/05/2020 14:26

Bone did?! Bloody hell.

Like you say, everyone can see right through it, we know exactly why they’re doing it, it’s so frustrating.

Every time a speaker makes out the decision has been made in the best interests of the children it makes my blood boil.

FliesandPies · 13/05/2020 14:32

Damning indictment from Bone re Sunday's address on Channel 4 twitter

FliesandPies · 13/05/2020 14:33

"They just do not understand how the Government works in this country" - Bone talking about his own Tory Government!

TinySleepThief · 13/05/2020 14:44

Mine too, it's all a load of bullshit and I doubt any of those saying it would be happy sending their child in.

unherd.com/2020/05/boris-johnson-and-the-ravages-of-office/

"Certainly Johnson was hit badly, admitting doctors had to give him ‘litres and litres’ of oxygen and that he was close to being put on a ventilator. He looked exhausted after returning to Downing Street and is, unsuprisingly, working fewer hours. It is said he gets fatigued, sometimes struggling with memory."

vera99 · 13/05/2020 15:11

A lot of the Tory establishment led by the Torygraph seem to want Johnson and his clique out - he will be the ultimate fall guy when we are in safer waters and hopefully soon. My monies on a resignation for 'health reasons' sooner rather than later so he can go back to what he does best. Bumming around, womanising and penning witty columns for the Telegraph/Spectator and doing after-dinner speeches. And making big bucks so he can live the life he wants to lead which I'm pretty sure isn't this one.
