I know this is pure speculation, but any predictions about changes from next Monday?

If they announce all teachers in England are going back in August then I will donate to the NHS paws .

daisymay133 · 06/05/2020 21:42

Paws

I believe you

What’s happening with work next week as my job are discussing us going in

It’s a place you can’t social distance

Do I need to prepare? PM if that’s easier !

lyralalala · 06/05/2020 21:42

school holidays will change. the old style 6 weeks will maybe be disregarded and school returns in august instead

*why so fixed on '

Because teachers and school staff have contracts.

Plus changing the school year will affect exam boards, colleges and universities. And childcare facilities.

That would take years of negotiations and plans. Not days.

daisymay133 · 06/05/2020 21:43

I don’t think schools can open in summer and indeed the schools minister said last week that they wouldn’t

headachehair · 06/05/2020 21:43

BTW I'm not questioning you paws just questioning the thinking behind any plan that has schools returning in August.

Same - I'm more interested in exploring what this could mean!

@lyralalala its a matter of a week or two....and it could easily be a one off

and teachers contracts can be changed.....why would they object?

Easilyanxious · 06/05/2020 21:45

I don't get the meeting if 4 people either in Ireland will you be allowed to meet say as a couple 2 different people everyday ?

headachehair · 06/05/2020 21:46

That reads to me that they will open in phases before summer and will open fully in September.

ifonly4 · 06/05/2020 21:46

Staff at our school worked on a voluntary basis over Easter, our school finishes fairly late July, so maybe it means staff being in for keyworkers will continue in August assuming they volunteer.

Peppafrig · 06/05/2020 21:47

That is different to what you said paws . We have always known that schools would phase opening its common knowledge. No where does it say all teachers back in August.

AlwaysRememberUsThisWay · 06/05/2020 21:47

And what does it say about dates of phase 5 paws?

I’m happy to believe you! Why not? Some people must know by now so why not paws?

LaurieFairyCake · 06/05/2020 21:47

Thanks Paws 👍🏻

Totally desperate now to see the redacted bit Grin

Nb89 · 06/05/2020 21:47

Absolutely ridiculous announcing this is on its way just before a sunny bank holiday weekend. The masses will be what the fuck, it's being lifted Monday, lets have our friends over, go some where in masses etc.

God I'm so desperate to see my parents and my son both over an hour away in 2 different directions. I've lost my job and desperate for some normality so I can start looking to the future instead if being stuck in some unemployed limbo, bored and struggling a bit tbh but I think this is way too soon. We've had the most relaxed and shortest lock down in Europe and the highest death rate. 1 month from now I dread to think where we'll be.

itsgettingweird · 06/05/2020 21:48

I don't see issue with people travelling g to holiday homes etc if the rest of social distancing measures are kept.

So if all we do is allow people to visit their own properties that will be a small amount of people.

I also think they will generally open up the businesses they never intended to close (because they will be paying furlough for those staff) first.
I hope they continue to test 10's of thousands during this time and leave that for 2 weeks and see the effect.

Then start opening up some non essential businesses (Ikea/ sofa and carpet stores etc) but with strict caveats on not sitting in sofas and beds etc. This will allow them to see the touch effect as people will touch wardrobe doors etc and judge how it will look when we open up transport / schools etc.

I also imagine they'll start to allow games in parks such as rounders but not sitting still and having picnics etc.

bathsh3ba · 06/05/2020 21:50

I agree, the bit paws posted reads more like schools won't reopen to all till September but some years or areas may go back sooner. Which fits with what has already been said.

The80sweregreat · 06/05/2020 21:51

The daily mail comments page is raging at the idea of lifting the lockdown too soon!
Mind you, I saw lots of builders vans around here today and more cars on the road so I think it's being lifted on it's own anyway.

pawsforawhile · 06/05/2020 21:51

Phase 5 is from 10/8/20.

I would imagine things will be staggered. Can't imagine teachers will be forced to work .

InfiniteCurve · 06/05/2020 21:52

Having read the Irish plan posted upthread,I am amazed and frankly worried - first phase retail including opticians whereas barbers and hairdressers are higher risk? Really??
I am an optometrist - my job is not the least bit compatible with social distancing, and mostly is face to face and close up. In what world is that lower risk than a barber?

DenimDrift · 06/05/2020 21:52

builders have always been able to work....if they can source their materials

Peppafrig · 06/05/2020 21:53

Ireland's phase 5 starts on the 10/08

AlwaysRememberUsThisWay · 06/05/2020 21:53

Thanks paws! And no mention of schools in the earlier phases?

pawsforawhile · 06/05/2020 21:54

No mention of schools or colleges before phase 5

No mention of uni at all tho. And pubs are never mentioned.....

AlwaysRememberUsThisWay · 06/05/2020 21:56

Hmm how strange pubs and unis aren’t mentioned! Can you tell us how recently you received it as in how you to date it is with most recent plans?

AlwaysRememberUsThisWay · 06/05/2020 21:56

UP to date...sorry
