I know this is pure speculation, but any predictions about changes from next Monday?

Garden centres - I would have kept them open anyhow, like supermarkets, with v strict distancing and sanitising. Or at least had some service so plants weren't all thrown away.

I think safe activities should be allowed.

cheninblanc · 07/05/2020 09:17

Middleoftheroad my husband has family close by who I really happy to be in a bubble with tbh. But we also have some friends on their own who I want to support and join a bubble but my teenager has other ideas about her friends who she's missing terribly and I'm out at work so I get social interaction. The logistics of it are awful, she also doesn't want my dh family as they aren't her family. The fall is horrible. I'd rather he said you can meet people outside on group's no bigger of a certain number... I love a pub but would happily keep them shut to allow my daughters to have some freedom

Daffodil101 · 07/05/2020 09:19

Daily fail is reporting Pubs and restaurants end Of August, which is odd because that’s just as they’d have lost all of the summer holiday trade in small seaside towns.

Daffodil101 · 07/05/2020 09:20

(I’d give up all my social interaction so my children Can have theirs, certainly with you on that).

cheninblanc · 07/05/2020 09:21

So are sky news. I think pubs should stay shut, I love a drink as my user name says, but I'd rather my teenagers could get out than me

Dialdownthedrama · 07/05/2020 09:23

This thread took a funny turn 😂

Beebityboo · 07/05/2020 09:23

When do you think we'll be able to go and view houses? We're looking to move mid-July but we don't drive and would need to travel to a town fifteen minutes away by taxi to view places.

Foobydoo · 07/05/2020 09:50

It is very irresponsible of the government to keep drip feeding snippets they need to be more direct. Any announcement for changes on Sunday should not start a few hours later on the Monday. That leaves no time to prepare.
In my area (northwest England) people are acting like lockdown has already ended.
My parents are shielding, their neighbour who knows this popped into the garden yesterday to tell my parents that they have organized a street party for V.E day all neighbours invited and they are inviting other non-neighbours too. They will not social distance at all. They have been in and out of each others houses and constantly out shopping since lockdown began.
My mum was horrified.

Sosadandempty · 07/05/2020 10:01

^ this. It fits in with their general incompetence however. I have no faith in them getting us out of this lockdown in a safe and efficient way.

HangryChip · 07/05/2020 11:03

happily. they are only young once. And you need them to be literate enough to clear up the country's debt and mess we made.

The80sweregreat · 07/05/2020 11:07

Some garden centres are open where I live and are very busy.
The Sun headlines today are jubilant about Monday being the day we can go out etc but I think they are second guessing a lot.
Plus people have been going out a lot round here already and having visitors etc.

HangryChip · 07/05/2020 11:09

Apart from the schools point, if I didn't have children to worry about, I'd think a phased plan like the irish one is fairly sensible.

EasterIssland · 07/05/2020 11:12

just seen in another local post
"From Monday
Employees to be encouraged to return to workplaces that have stayed open throughout the lockdown if safe. ."

I dont get it , if it has stayed opened i.e. wfh wouldn't it make more sense for those that have been fourloghed to go first rather than us? Me and my partner are wfh , we have a child in common, if we wfh we can both work if we need to go to the office then one of us needs to take parental leave... sure encouraging wfh as much as possible would be a solution and leave those that can't wfh to use the services and so? this is what Spain has done, wfh til at least august.

The80sweregreat · 07/05/2020 11:15

According to James O'Brien on lbc the big announcement on Sunday will be a filmed broadcast not the daily briefing type format.
I hope there are bullet points put up or something similar and it's made clear what the ideas and plans are for different industries. Otherwise I fear a ' free for all' !
Schools : I wonder if anything will be said about those?

Paddingtonthebear · 07/05/2020 11:16

If what is being reported in today’s press is true, the government really need to hammer home to the public that despite what shops we go to or picnics we have, social distancing still applies! Nothing will change in that respect.

covidpanics · 07/05/2020 11:18

I can already envisage everyone piling into parks for a picnic with their entire family and another spike occurring

Discobar · 07/05/2020 11:23

@EasterIssland - I read it as workplaces that were allowed to remain open in lockdown- off licences, wilkos that kind of thing that might not have opened all branches

RedRiverShore · 07/05/2020 11:24

Monday looks like it is going to be about 9C where I live ( East Midlands) so I think I will give going for a picnic a miss if that comes to fruition

EasterIssland · 07/05/2020 11:27

@Discobar that would make sense I guess, it doesn't make sense that if we can wfh to force us to go to offices
or offices if you can self distance which it's def, not my case (we didn't even have space for everyone)

Mikki2019 · 07/05/2020 11:29

They’re just tacitly ending lockdown

SophieB100 · 07/05/2020 11:45

I don't think the government are drip feeding anything. I think the media are trying to guess and printing it as fact, or trying to read between the lines from press conferences etc.

I don't think the first changes will be very different at all.

I've just been told via my Head at school to start rolling out more work/planning and resources up until the end of June...(High School).

deydododatdodontdeydo · 07/05/2020 12:09

Last week I received a letter telling me I was vulnerable and should stay home for 12 weeks.
Today DH's boss is talking like they will beback in the office Monday morning (he and everyone else has been wfh).
The govt need to be very specific about what is and isn't allowed.
The newspapers are being wildly irresponsible.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 07/05/2020 12:16

We may be allowed to meet people in very small groups in outside spaces and some more shops and work places will be allowed to re open but it doesn’t seem likely that the 1-2 metre social distancing will be lifted for a long time.

Even for people living alone? It would be nice to be able to see a couple of people in person outside from a 2 metre distance, but what I really really need is a hug. Ideally from my boyfriend who I haven't seen since before lockdown, but at this point I woukd take a hug from pretty much anyone I know. I really miss human touch and I don't know how well I would cope if I had to go without it for 'a long time'. I was prepared for 3 or 4 more weeks (though that would be hard enough) but the thought of even longer than that without a hug is awful.

SistemaAddict · 07/05/2020 12:38

NS has just said no changes to restrictions at this time. She wants to see the stats in a week.

Peppafrig · 07/05/2020 12:42

Yeah extended till the 28th but if the science shows it safe to lift before then she can change it.
