Changes to lockdown from Monday?

I know this is pure speculation, but any predictions about changes from next Monday?

@weepingwillow22 outside exercise is allowed already?

MindatWork · 06/05/2020 16:36

I think B&M and The Range have been allowed to stay open as they sell 'homewares' - see the list of exceptions to enforced closures here: www.gov.uk/government/publications/further-businesses-and-premises-to-close/further-businesses-and-premises-to-close-guidance#businesses-and-venues-that-must-remain-closed-to-members-of-the-public

A lot of businesses have chosen to close to protect their staff, but I imagine many will re-open now. Quite a few garden centres round here have managed to stay open on the premise that they sell a few DIY bits and a couple of bags of dog food/horse food - so they class themselves under the 'hardware store', 'pet shop' and 'agricultural supplies' categories!

@sunglasses123 I, for once, am really cross with Nicola and I usually like her! I live in rural Scotland with very few cases, never went above 5 in intensive care, loads of changes made to nhs to cover this massive tsunami of patients we were told we would be getting which never happened 7 weeks later (thank god)! Where is her reasoning for keeping us locked up then? Yes more densely populated places may need more strict watching but a more relaxed approach could be taken for the more rural areas! I just want to see my family and my hairdresser I’m not asking for much!

OneForMeToo · 06/05/2020 16:43

I don’t see long trips being allowed as uk camp sites etc will then all open back up again. Beaches would be flooded bye bye social distancing at all.

Hugglespuffed · 06/05/2020 16:50

I like Nicola's approach, she seems sensible to me.
I have a family member in Thailand and they've had hardly any deaths but been on a very strict lockdown (no exercise) and now they are slowly lifting it. It is great because it hasn't had much of a chance to spread.

I hope things start to open a little and more businesses can re open but I don't think travel should be allowed because with this nice weather, everyone will be heading to the coasts (cornwall, pembrokeshire etc.. ) and if another outbreak happens, those hospitals will not cope.
I think mingling within own communities would be better initially with a view of travel being allowed in the summer.

It is tough, I haven't seen my parents for over 3 months and I do miss them but it is life and I'd rather this than a worse outbreak (it can't get much worse, the number of deaths is horrible!)

bakedbeanzontoast · 06/05/2020 16:50

@TheCountessatHotelCortez political willy waving I think, wants to look more competent than Boris.

TheCountessatHotelCortez · 06/05/2020 16:52

@bakedbeanzontoast I think you may be right, that is ridiculous if that is the case. Always notice her hair is beautifully styled though 😉

Flaxmeadow · 06/05/2020 16:53

I would also like to see hospitals with capacity being allowed to get back to a new normal, it is very worrying that people cannot access more routine procedures that are essential to them

I think this is already happening. My neighbour got a new appointment, previously cancelled, this week

user1471439240 · 06/05/2020 16:54

The plan is to get as many people back to work as possible, the impossible circle to square is saying you travel to work, interact there, but can’t interact outside work.

flowerycurtain · 06/05/2020 16:54

I can't see how they can change much when the new cases are still rather high. We haven't met any of the 5 conditions either.

I'd cry with gratefulness if they said I could see my 63 year old perfectly healthy mum with my kids on Monday. I could work whilst she looked after them and the kids and her would love the time together.

TheCountessatHotelCortez · 06/05/2020 16:55

@flowerycurtain it was said in the news the other day we have met 2 of the conditions

twinnywinny14 · 06/05/2020 16:55

Garden centres here are open! I wonder if he will re-outline businesses that are allowed to be open as they need to all be open to make a baseline

Inaquandry19 · 06/05/2020 16:57

Scotland is behind the curve, hence Nicola's approach. I cant stand her but I am with her on this one.

cinammonbuns · 06/05/2020 16:58

At least in my area hospitals have started reopening some services

MrMeeseekscando · 06/05/2020 17:00

I'm absolutely desperate to see my boyfriend, who lives alone.
I've not seen him since 23rd March.
I want social bubbles!

TheCountessatHotelCortez · 06/05/2020 17:00

@Inaquandry19 where is the proof for this? Not being rude just I work in community nhs and back when london announced the lockdown and Nicola did the same we were told by our big bosses that we were roughly 2-3 weeks behind London we are now 7 weeks from then and nothing

Mascotte · 06/05/2020 17:03

If we are behind London then why did we lockdown at the same time?

YogaLite · 06/05/2020 17:03

I think it will be easing back to work from next week with distancing measures.

The problem will be how to observe distancing measures if people get out en mass.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 06/05/2020 17:05

Christ they'll need to get hairdressers open before a lot of us can get back to work Grin

pawsforawhile · 06/05/2020 17:06

Restricted travel will be allowed in August but not abroad.

LuckyLuckyWoman · 06/05/2020 17:06

over 6000 people tested positive yesterday, that is still scary numbers

No idea what he's going to say, but definitely needs to be slow and steady measures

midgebabe · 06/05/2020 17:09

Because lockdown was too late, if you want to minise deaths and minimise the length of lockdown. They made a mistake. Locking other areas after London would be a bigger mistake

Headbangersandmash · 06/05/2020 17:10

If we are behind London then why did we lockdown at the same time?

Different rules for different areas could have ended up in an exodus from London and a pointless argument on the definition of London. For example I lived in the London Borough of Kingston Upon Thames which doesn't have a London postcode.

meow1989 · 06/05/2020 17:10

I actually dont want lockdown to be eased yet, we still have scary deaths and if the curve is on a downward trend why not give it a few more weeks to be further down. A lot of people have said on this thread they want to travel to holiday homes etc, surely that's not a good idea yet.

Dont get me wrong I miss my family desperately. And I am lucky in that DH and I can work from home so can't imagine how hard it is for people who have suffered wage cuts. But it just feels so soon.

Sosadandempty · 06/05/2020 17:10

^ I agree - so many new cases and people not really social distancing when out and about and on public transport - not reassuring.
