Am I the only deluded one clinging on to a tiny bit of hope for our July holiday?

Yeah I know it's selfish to be worried about holidays what with everything else which is going on, but I've already had to cancel one at Easter. I'm sure there are a fair few of us who can't wait to get away. We're booked to go to Spain mid July, staying in a private apartment so no shared accommodation/hotel to worry about. Spain are starting to ease restrictions. I think they are going to need tourism to start up soon as long as they can be sure it's safe.

Is anyone else still holding on to a tiny bit of hope for a summer holiday? I really can't be the only one, can I?

Tempting but I’m too much of a wuss! Still haven’t had a sundae due to writing the calories count on the menu - just why?!

Margarita ??

Puzzledandpissedoff · 07/05/2020 21:29

Guilty, DBML Blush Grin

DBML · 07/05/2020 21:29

The Gold Rush sundae was my fave. And the caramel quake shake.
Only 2000 kcal in the quake shake @Pomegranatepompom

Puzzledandpissedoff · 07/05/2020 21:35

Still haven’t had a sundae due to writing the calories count on the menu - just why?!

Nah, the only really good sundae is a homemade one:

Crumbled warm double chocolate chip cookies at bottom
Choice of ice cream (preferably Reece's Peanut Cup)
Dark chocolate sauce ladled drizzled over top
Lashings of squirty cream
Maraschino cherry on top for that important vegetable/health choice

As a very dear American friend said, "you're learning" Grin

@puzzledandpissedoff

Dear God! It sounds like a heart attack in a bowl and yet I want to try it! 😆

Puzzledandpissedoff · 07/05/2020 21:51

Perfectly acceptable as an occasional treat, DBML ... the real damage is in indulging all the time (and for a nod to the health content you can always add two cherries) Wink

Pomegranatepompom · 07/05/2020 21:53

Ok both - is there a Disney board and a food thread !
Apologies to everyone I may have bored.
If we do get to go on August, I still need to lose my stone from last year 😳

DBML · 07/05/2020 21:54

Yes sorry, apologies all. Got carried away there! 😁

Puzzledandpissedoff · 07/05/2020 21:55

And me Blush

Pomegranatepompom · 07/05/2020 22:01

It might have been mildly amusing/informative.

😳

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 07/05/2020 22:03

LOL I've started something, but it's my thread and I don't mind if you hijack it!

We are due to go haven in July 10th, what’s the chances do you think? 🙈

Pomegranatepompom · 07/05/2020 22:05

That’s very decent of you 😊
Can we interest you on a snack ?!

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 07/05/2020 22:10

@Pomegranatepompom I'll take a meatball sub with extra cheese if there's one going

End of July - Caribbean. I'm thinking unlikely... but ever hopeful! Maybe 40:60 against....

Didkdt · 07/05/2020 22:30

I really want to go and see friends in Spain in August I haven't lost hope yet

QueenofDestruction · 07/05/2020 22:35

I am currently living in a tourist area in mainland Spain and all the news has been that it's not.likely to allow visitors in this summer, they have stated that if they do it will be from countries with low infections like Germany first, they have specifically stated in my local papers that UK will be one of the last countries
that they allow visitors in from because of the fact they are behind with the infection levels and the isolation has been lax - being so strict here they don't want to ruin their progress. Schools are only opening in September so our isolation won't be over by then.

JudyGemstone · 07/05/2020 22:50

I'm meant to be going to Mexico in July, so far they're one of the only countries not to have banned U.K. travellers, but if BA are cancelling their flights from Gatwick as I've heard then I won't be able to get there anyway sadly.

If it's possible to go I will absolutely go. Partner has it and I must have caught it too as we've been together all day every day, although am asymptomatic. Am praying for a positive test result tomorrow!

notimagain · 08/05/2020 06:54

Judy

but if BA are cancelling their flights from Gatwick as I've heard

The whole BA operation at Gatwick is suspended indefinitely, lots of negotiations taking place about what is going to happen to the staff, so

notimagain · 08/05/2020 07:06

so => sorry for the bad news...

TheOtherSideOfTheMountain · 08/05/2020 07:13

Still really hoping for ours in Aug too but it was with BA from Gatwick :( So it's fairly unlikely they're going to manage to move us to another flight elsewhere now, isnt it, on top of everything else :( :( :(

Pomegranatepompom · 08/05/2020 08:45

Oh yes ours was from Gatwick as well, to Tampa 🙁

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 08/05/2020 08:58

We have a flight to Barbados from Gatwick in Oct. No idea what will happen to that.

notimagain · 08/05/2020 09:46

The whole BA/Gatwick situation is a horrible unknown for many.at the moment...Things might become more clear in a month or so once the Union/company consultations timeout

If BA does stay shutdown at Gatwick then given that Heathrow isn't exactly maxed out at the moment it's possible there might be the option to transfer some of the BA Gatwick services up to Heathrow but I have to emphasise that's just me guessing at options, I don't know whether it's been considered or if it is even feasible. It would ultimately I guess depend on demand and also entry restrictions at the far end.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 08/05/2020 09:50

It's not just BA - Virgin as well. Ours is a Virgin flight. We live in the North and only booked Gatwick as it was cheaper, so would be happy to go to Manchester instead. But it depends if that option is there.
