Am I the only deluded one clinging on to a tiny bit of hope for our July holiday?

Yeah I know it's selfish to be worried about holidays what with everything else which is going on, but I've already had to cancel one at Easter. I'm sure there are a fair few of us who can't wait to get away. We're booked to go to Spain mid July, staying in a private apartment so no shared accommodation/hotel to worry about. Spain are starting to ease restrictions. I think they are going to need tourism to start up soon as long as they can be sure it's safe.

Is anyone else still holding on to a tiny bit of hope for a summer holiday? I really can't be the only one, can I?

@Ovahere

That’s a good idea.

Our vacation this year is to the Florida Keys for a month. Mainly for the canoeing and diving. If our holiday can go ahead, we’ll still be able to have pretty much the same vacation as planned, perhaps with mask wearing at Publix and some social distancing measures.
We’ve check our insurance and we are happy to go if we can.
If planes do operate at 50% capacity for the summer, I’m relying on people like you cancelling so that I maybe get to keep my holiday and be part of that 50%.

OvaHere · 07/05/2020 19:41

Sounds like a great holiday DBML and perhaps one that's more doable within social distancing measures. I hope you get to go.

Our holiday was a standard package type - big hotel, communal dining, shared pools etc...which is what made me more reluctant to chance it. If it was a private villa I might feel more comfortable with the idea.

@Ovahere

I hope when you’re ready to go, you book a fabulous vacation and have an amazing time.

OvaHere · 07/05/2020 19:45

Thanks, me too! Flowers

Nonnymum · 07/05/2020 19:49

Sorry but I would say it is highly unlikely. I doubt Spain will be fully opened up by then.

notmycuppa · 07/05/2020 19:54

Ireland is opening hotels up on July 20th as long as covid 19 numbers do not go up. As others have said, places that are reliant on tourism cannot afford to turn everyone away until next year. Not unless there is (god forbid) a 2nd wave

HathorX · 07/05/2020 20:13

Hmmm probably deluded, but what is life without hope? I will keep my fingers crossed, it would be lovely to think holidays could go ahead.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 07/05/2020 20:29

@DBML I bloody LOVE Publix, best supermarket ever! Spent many a happy holiday in Florida when my daughter was younger.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 07/05/2020 20:53

Now that's what I call a proper a ount of meat in your sandwich Grin

My scheduled Florida trip isn't until 9 September, so I'm still keeping my fingers crossed ...

DBML · 07/05/2020 20:54

@Pomegranatepompom

Stop it!
I need to go now....

Puzzledandpissedoff · 07/05/2020 20:54

"Amount" of meat, that should have said - I'm so busy drooling I can't type!!

DBML · 07/05/2020 20:55

It really is the type of supermarket where you aren’t going to be sticking to your shopping list.

DBML · 07/05/2020 20:58

@Puzzledandpissedoff

That’s my husbands favourite!!! I like the Italian and Caprese subs. Omg, I’m hungry now...off to the kitchen I go. Lol

Pomegranatepompom · 07/05/2020 21:01

Ok one more - last one 😂
I leave you with - potato salad

DBML · 07/05/2020 21:02

@Pomegranatepompom

I haven’t tried that!!

But...I will now!!

Pomegranatepompom · 07/05/2020 21:05

I can’t stop ....
Chilli cheese fries @ Disney
So wrong yet so good.

I will stop now !!!

DBML · 07/05/2020 21:07

Lol!
Oh dear...we need our own space!!! I love talking Disney Snacks!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 07/05/2020 21:08

I like the Italian and Caprese subs

Ah yes, "I'll just have a small lunch" and then you walk out with something that'd choke a shark ... but you're going to have to stop this you know; I want to be there NOW!! Grin

And yes, any pretence of a list goes to hell the instant I enter the door ...

Puzzledandpissedoff · 07/05/2020 21:15

Pomegranate I see your chilli cheese fries and raise you the waffle plate at county fairs: a whacking great 12 inch thing absolutely slathered in squirty cream, strawberry compote, icing sugar and choice of sprinkles
Sod the displays, entertainment and the rest; it seems many go to these fairs just for the food

Of course, mindful of the obesity problem I've never personally eaten such a plate - good grief no (nose grows longer with every word ...)

Pomegranatepompom · 07/05/2020 21:20

@Puzzled that does sound like the kind of. thing we should not try 😂 I’m not sure I can raise you (Ghiredelli chocolate??)

12 August - not cancelled yet ....

Pomegranatepompom · 07/05/2020 21:21

This must be the happiest thread at the moment on this board 🍸 cheers

DBML · 07/05/2020 21:26

Ok, @Pomegranatepompom and @Puzzledandpissedoff

Confession time.

Who goes into Ghirardelli for the free chocolate...and then goes back in again five minutes later saying....

“Oh look! They’re giving away chocolate, how nice. Thank you”
