So it’s recently been announced that Boris will be on on Sunday to let us know what the next phase is etc..

What do people think realistically he is gonna allow?

Opinions!! Go...

yeah like they want everyone out on a bh-i think it will be three weeks again

FurForksSake · 04/05/2020 13:28

He has to extend as they don't have the TTI in place, in order not to have a second peak (pillar five) they need to test, track and isolate. They can't do that without staff trained / recruited and the app tested.

I think we may move into a rolling weekly lockdown review or maybe fortnightly. I don't think three weeks will be taken easily right now.

imsooverthisdrama · 04/05/2020 13:30

I'm not sure what this obsession with bank holiday is . As soon as pubs restaurants are open people will be there in the droves. If pubs and restaurants not open then where will they go ?
To mix with families yes but if that's a bank holiday or not it will happen .

YouLikeTheBadOnesToo · 04/05/2020 13:30

Sorry have we established its definitely Sunday and not Thursday? Or maybe its both!!!

The initial lockdown period was due to be reviewed on Monday 13th March, but they delayed the announcement until Thursday 16th March. I’m assuming the same will happen again. They’ll fob us off fir a few days, then make the announcement on Sunday.

SophieB100 · 04/05/2020 13:34

For those of you who are confused by the Thursday, Sunday things. There are two different things happening on each day:

Thursday is the deadline for the review of the current lockdown, it has to be reviewed every three weeks. Boris will meet with Cobra, SAGE etc., and brief us on Thursday, about the lockdown. If he does what Sturgeon has just told Scotland (that it is highly likely that it will be extended for three weeks on Thursday) he will extend it.

Sunday is the day when he will announce the road map for phase 2. This is what an easing of restrictions will look like, for after the end of the lockdown. They call it the road map.

They have never said that the lockdown will end this Thursday, they have always said it will be reviewed.

Some MNetters decided that the easy of restrictions would start this Thursday, but that was never said by the Government, who have always said that easing will happen when it is safe to do so. One of the key tests is the track and trace, which will be up and running by the end of the month, and another is the R number. It has to remain low and preferably go down further, over a "sustained period of time" (Chris Whitty).

So another 3 weeks, but if enough people flout it, longer.

They won't undo any lockdown measures before a Bank Holiday weekend.

FurForksSake · 04/05/2020 13:35

The lockdown was announced on the monday and the laws needed to enforce it came in on the Thursday, hence they are renewed / reviewed on a Thursday.

kateandme · 04/05/2020 13:36

leaks are to propmote a gauging of puplic opinion.which irritates me because its then for populairty not for the "saving lives",they want to know what they can get away with.there are people in governent who job it is to specifically do this.they dont call it leaks though it got a much nicer term which means fuk all in the grand scheme.
and he wont TELL us anything he will once again suggest.and urge.which give the sensible people confusion and the idiots cart blanche to do what the fuk they want and ryuin it for all of us

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/05/2020 13:36

If only we were as grown up lightly populated as the Irish and could be trusted not to run screaming into the street safe from infection, increased R the minute he says there will be an easing of lockdown. We can only wish.

72 people per sq.kilometer in Ireland

133 in NI
148 in Wales
65 in Scotland
259 in England

bevelino · 04/05/2020 13:37

I think Boris needs to announce that non convid patients will receive therapeutic treatment. The way cancer patients have been neglected since the convid outbreak is completely unacceptable.

Drivingdownthe101 · 04/05/2020 13:38

DominaShantotto I think you’ve got it Grin

kateandme · 04/05/2020 13:39

im already seeing post of people saying how they cant wait to hug people on ease of lockdown.im sorry why would you do this?the ease doesnt mean anything has changed.the virus doesnt listen to boris and bugger off when we are allowed out more.do not go and hug your fucking vulnerable nanny

catinasplat · 04/05/2020 13:39

Who's Thanatos?
Isn't it a lovely Greek island?! Oh, how I wish I was on a Greek island...

catinasplat · 04/05/2020 13:41

I think another 3 weeks and then an easing of restrictions.

Bollss · 04/05/2020 13:43

I think (personal opinion not based on anything really) that we will have another 3 weeks of lockdown as we currently know it.

I think "the plan" will be to get people back to work sort of gradually, so maybe manufacturing and non essential shops can open with social distancing - maybe masks?

I think schools will probably be re opened in June, i dont think all children will attend all week. I hope and pray that they open private nurseries for their sake and mine. I want to work and i want our lovely nursery to stay open and the lovely staff to keep their jobs.

I hope schools will be fully re open in September.

Personally i think school should be optional from June until September, because i can appreciate people are nervous etc. This will mean there is less children anyway, but the parents who have to work can still send their children.

NettleTea · 04/05/2020 13:44

I saw the Irish plan. It looked eminently sensible. There is a push from Ireland, Wales and Scotland to have a unified approach. I expect they will dismiss it out of hand because Ireland planned it and they dont want to look like someone else came up with the idea

whereveryougo · 04/05/2020 13:44

Whatever Herr Cummings tells him to say I'd imagine.

Freethefrogs · 04/05/2020 13:45

If he extends it by another 3 weeks on Thursday I'm going to go and see my mum anyway. I don't see how it's any riskier for me to go and see my mum now than it would be for me to see her in another 3 weeks.

peridito · 04/05/2020 13:46

fascinated · 04/05/2020 13:48

Yeah. The wanting to hug.

That is just daft.

Physical distancing is still needed. Are people so stupid that they think Boris lifting lockdown somehow means the virus has gone? It’s madness.

SleepingStandingUp · 04/05/2020 13:49

im his script ewriter perdito

Freethefrogs · 04/05/2020 13:49

No. Funnily enough I'm not stupid, I just know that there will be no vaccine for at least a year if not longer, and I'm not waiting a year to hug my mother who is early 50s and has no underlying health conditions. HTH.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/05/2020 13:52

I saw the Irish plan. It looked eminently sensible Again I refer you to population density - as just one major difference.

BlueLadybird · 04/05/2020 13:52

I predict another three weeks of lockdown announced on Thursday but with the sweetener that restrictions may be eased earlier if the science suggests it is safe to do so.

That way Boris is off the hook for another 3 weeks but looks like the good guy when he allows people to mix with one other household or exercise twice a day or whatever the first step is, before the three weeks is up.

I think whatever plan is announced will start on 1st June. No way on earth will they want everyone travelling the length and breadth of the country during half term or the BH weekend.

fascinated · 04/05/2020 13:52

Freethefrogs — ok. Go and hug her now then? Why wait for Boris to announce?

Bluntness100 · 04/05/2020 13:52

He has already said what he will say, which is he will lay out a detailed plan to exit lock down.

Thursday will be a mini speech, with some small restriction lifting, and then Sunday will be the big deal where he details it properly.

I don’t think he can do it Thursday as it’s the bank holiday Friday and everyone will be out and about if he does.
