So it’s recently been announced that Boris will be on on Sunday to let us know what the next phase is etc..

What do people think realistically he is gonna allow?

Opinions!! Go...

@curiousaboutsamphire why does having a different population density mean the Irish plan is not sensible.

Ireland has a lower incidence of disease and more testing capacity than the UK.

Are you saying the UK needs a more restrictive plan?

pfrench · 04/05/2020 14:51

He'll say wiffle waffle, mugger, spaff, wibble, Wash. Your. Hands.

Papers will say BUMPTIOUS BORIS BACK IN BUSINESS.

Tory fanboys will jizz their pants, we'll be none the wiser.

RedRiverShore · 04/05/2020 14:51

Thursday will just be a small announcement I predict as the timescale says he has to, Sunday I suspect will be the main announcement, I also think that we may be quite soon allowed to sit down on grass for a bite to eat and maybe sunbathe when out for exercise, though not on a park bench as the grass is less likely to be contagious, and of course keeping to the 2 metre rule.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/05/2020 14:53

why does having a different population density mean the Irish plan is not sensible. Not necessarily sensible for England, I meant! And yes, England, the UK as a whole (if we are to 'do it together'), will need a more restrictive / less speedy exit plan. Because "all the data"

I was responding mainly to people who seemed to be saying that if Ireland can do it we should too! Of course it is possible that they are all Irish, living in Ireland... but without little flags in the top corners of our posts I can't keep track of nationalities!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/05/2020 14:55

Oh! I should have said I live in an area that has the lowest infection and death rate. Chances are that our R has been below 0.5 for quite some time. I would imagine we could come out of lockdown on something similar to the Irish plan.

Always assuming we could lock our county borders!

TeacupDrama · 04/05/2020 14:59

I think there will be some very small minor adjustments on thursday
which is legal review time outdoor exercise more lenient with social distancing parks and beaches open, encouragement for factories etc to restart minor increase in shops open ie garden centres book shops

I do not think it will be for another 3 weeks as that would make 9.5 weeks which is longer than anywhere else I do not think they want general lockdown until 1st june ( next review legally would be 28th May it will not be extended past that) I think next week plans will start for businesses generally to be back and schools opening from 1st June but with 10-12 pupils per class i think this will be decided centrally as they won't want headteacher of Primary X in town Y having pupils in but the headteacher of school Q in same town being shut, I think you might have 10 pupils back per class for 2 days then next 10 for 2 days then next 10 again and repeat moving to 15 if goes well
I think adjustments will be phased on very similar lines to other countries primary school back first and small shops and takeaways; if all goes well secondary schools and larger shops 2 weeks later with slightly larger gatherings of upto 8-10 people and hence marriages with small number of guests baptisms and other religious meetings but with limits on numbers related to capacity ie a third or alternative pews /rows of preayer mats etc
restricted for much longer sit in entertainment restaurants cinema theatre sports matches etc, large gatherings medically vulnerable expected to carry on shielding but maybe with a few visitors

2beautifulbabs · 04/05/2020 15:01

Don't know what will happen but either way I don't think many are going to bother sticking to the lockdown rules any more lots of people all over the country are having a gutful now.

Went out today on my daily walk with my family and you would have sworn it was a normal day loads and loads of people out lots more cars on the roads.

We have stuck to the rules but I'm starting to crack now I'm missing my own parents my DCs are missing their grandparents uncle and auntie Friends etc.

I honestly don't think the government will have any more power to keep people indoors much longer it will come down to choice those who wish to stay indoors can do so those who wish to go out more or see close family and friends will be down to choice.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 04/05/2020 15:03

I think he's going to declare 2020 null and void and re-set the calendar so that we can all start again :)

Parker231 · 04/05/2020 15:03

The next announcement is being made on Sunday not Thursday. Thursday is when government have to do their review.

Flixsfoilball · 04/05/2020 15:18

Buzzfeed has got the details of the workplace requirements

Rosehip10 · 04/05/2020 15:22

@TeacupDrama Beaches have never been closed. Parking at beaches yes and I doubt that will change at the moment as that would result in many traveling to beach.

TeacupDrama · 04/05/2020 15:35

@rosehip10 I know that; but I meant it will not be patrolled or policed like it has been; as generally the science indicates the risks of transmission are lower outside, so I was really saying that Parks, beaches, public gardens, national parks will be more open in that you can go even if you can't walk there from your front door less monitoring of folks sitting down etc
I think travelling 100 miles to a beach will not be relaxed but maybe going 5 -10 miles will be fine perhaps staying in own county that is what is happening in France the distance you can go being widened upto 60km unless in a hot spot but still with area(county) so if you live in Bordeaux you have to stay there not go to Provence
so if you live in Staffordshire you can go to Cannock chase but not to the peak district

missclimpson · 04/05/2020 15:43

TeacupDrama in France it will be 100km in any direction, not limited to your département. It was clarified a few days ago.

rookiemere · 04/05/2020 15:57

Frasersmummy I agree with you, I believe the Scottish lockdown will be eased differently- and slower- just to prove we aren't beholden to England Hmm.

Tonii1985 · 04/05/2020 15:57

The law is that the government need to review Lockdown by Thursday - that doesn't mean they have to relay the decision to the public by Thursday.

I think Sunday is the day we will hear about the Lockdown extension and any changes to the current rules. The fact it is happening on Sunday and not Thursday suggests to me they don't want to announce any relaxations of rules the day before a sunny (for most) Bank Holiday weekend.

I think we can expect an approximate time line for business to re-open and also schools as an addition to that as obviously there will be childcare questions. I think leisure and tourism will be at the very end of the time line.

In terms of seeing family and friends, I'm finding that hard to predict. There's no money in that so I don't know what the government will say.

cologne4711 · 04/05/2020 16:04

I posted this somewhere else this morning but on Radio 4 Westminster Hour last night they were saying there would be an announcement on Thursday effectively to say there would be a full announcement on Sunday.

They thought lockdown would be extended until the Tuesday after the late May bank holiday and then things would start to move.

There may be some very minor adjustments on Thursday/Sunday for the next three weeks. However, yesterday's Sunday Times didn't for example think garden centres would be allowed to open until the end of May. DH says it's to stop the elderly going there for the sake of it. but they won't be there that long if the cafes can't open.

They also thought Y6, 10 and 12 would be back in school after May half term.

cologne4711 · 04/05/2020 16:06

The announcement was due on Thursday, and was rapidly moved to Sunday when they realised it may cause problems over the bank holiday

and because there some more ONS stats coming out that ministers want to review before they make their final decisions.

1forsorrow · 04/05/2020 16:10

The law is that the government need to review Lockdown by Thursday - that doesn't mean they have to relay the decision to the public by Thursday. Surely they'd have to tell us something. If it has been extended till Thursday and it isn't extended again then we would be free to go out whenever we want wouldn't we? So if they extend it they would have to tell us or we wouldn't know.

cologne4711 · 04/05/2020 16:11

Recycling centres are already re-opening

I think they are due to reopen here sometime next week. They closed because they were too busy. They hate providing a rubbish disposal service in this county and will use any excuse to reduce it or get rid of it altogether.

Sparklingbrook · 04/05/2020 16:13

I wouldn't be surprised at another 3 weeks. Whatever he announces won't be right, but it will give people something to moan about either way.

Boris’ announcement on Sunday UK
vanillandhoney · 04/05/2020 16:16

They thought lockdown would be extended until the Tuesday after the late May bank holiday and then things would start to move.

This ignores the fact that May half-term and late May bank holiday are coming up. Let's not act as though people won't try and go away and to their second homes if things are relaxed before then.

Tonii1985 · 04/05/2020 16:57

If it was just another 3 weeks of the same, they would be announcing it on Thursday - not Sunday.

SmileEachDay · 04/05/2020 16:57

Macron announced a tightening of measures prior to the proposed loosening on the 11th.

Maybe he’ll do that.

Tonii1985 · 04/05/2020 16:59

Yes and then after May half term there's the summer holidays and then the August Bank Holiday - there is always something coming up, but they don't want to announce relaxations literally the day before a long weekend. X

Bookoffacts · 04/05/2020 17:04

They had a few suggestions on radio 2 today.
No more hotdesking
Return of cubicles in large open plan offices. (See old movies)
One way systems for walking in offices.
One person paid to do all the photocopying.
