Bumpandus · 04/05/2020 11:20

So it’s recently been announced that Boris will be on on Sunday to let us know what the next phase is etc..

What do people think realistically he is gonna allow?

Opinions!! Go...

OP posts:
peachesandclean · 04/05/2020 13:54

the fact that people are "fed up" is no excuse to stop the lockdown

they're not doing this for fun you know

fascinated · 04/05/2020 13:54

Im just trying to say, the risk is the same regardless of what the govt says. In fact, you’re probably safer hugging now than once restrictions are eased as then the virus will be circulating more.

Freethefrogs · 04/05/2020 13:54

Freethefrogs — ok. Go and hug her now then? Why wait for Boris to announce?

I mean probably for the same reason the rest of the country is going to wait 3 weeks to go out and do stuff too?

It's all arbitrary anyway. Unless everyone stays inside for the next 2 years there will be a second peak.

FurForksSake · 04/05/2020 13:54

I want to know from them a lot more about community transmission and where these new cases are coming from. See where we can plug those gaps with PPE or better early testing and quarantining before we move forward.

But that won't happen as no one is being asked anything about where they've been or how they may have been exposed. We ripped up any sort of tracking weeks ago.

fascinated · 04/05/2020 13:55

Correction — not the same, but not less.

Freethefrogs · 04/05/2020 13:55

with such fascinating insight as that, you should be a journalist.

FurForksSake · 04/05/2020 13:57

No, it doesn't need everyone to stay home to avoid a second peak. It will involve decent TTI and moving back and forward into lockdown probably quite quickly. That and personal hygiene, PPE and social distancing will really help. It is multi faceted but possible to avoid a second peak.

PPE for everyone working in carehomes and hospitals and weekly testing will (and would have...) go a long way.

megletthesecond · 04/05/2020 14:01

I'm assuming I won't see my family until next spring tbh 🤷‍♀️. We usually see each other most months.

Am I the only one who thinks time is flying? I'm so busy I'm barely coming up for air.

RedToothBrush · 04/05/2020 14:01

Well seeing as it will be leaked to the press by about Thursday, I'll wait til Thursday to find out what Johnson will be saying on Sunday.

GoodbyePorpoiseSpit · 04/05/2020 14:03

Boris will waffle some boarding school ditty and bang out some hearty metaphors about battles, fighting, final push, surge, bulge, last gasp, close the gates, batten the hatches, sombreros, heroes maybe some Latin too.

Freethefrogs · 04/05/2020 14:03

I see my mum and sisters 3-4 times a week usually, DS and I are going bananas without them.

Jenasaurus · 04/05/2020 14:04

Phased back to school,, part time, maybe alternate, days or weeks for different year groups and/or starting and finishing times to the school day

Allowed to meet friends and family but keep social distance.

Can work as long as you dont need public transport, staggered start and finishing times.

Those who have recovered will be allowed to fully intergrate with others.

Just guessing really

Biscuit0110 · 04/05/2020 14:04

The announcement was due on Thursday, and was rapidly moved to Sunday when they realised it may cause problems over the bank holiday.

Expectations are:

Phased return of schools
Reopening of garden centres, recycling centres and some non essential shops
Encouraging people where possible to go back to work, and those that can remain working from home to ease transport issues
People can take outside exercise as often as they wish but not in groups
social distancing to be tweaked to 1 - 1.5m and continually enforced

Times and Telegraph outlined it all yesterday.

RedToothBrush · 04/05/2020 14:05

Johnson can't just do stuff low key. He has to have announcements about announcements that by the time he does it, loads of people have already found out what the announcement was.

The 'Big Boris Event', is just for everyone who isn't paying attention and to make Johnson look like he's running the show in a mad PR spectacle.

Its really quite pathetic. And people buy into it.

And start threads a week in advance about the 'Big Boris Event' to build up the excitement.

1forAll74 · 04/05/2020 14:06

I think that Boris and his gang of helpers, will just keep saying, maybe this,or maybe that , as in what he intends to do soon.It is playing safe, as something ontowards might happen at any time. He can't just say that he will now set all the country free, even though he is aware that everyone is fed up etc.

Angeldust747 · 04/05/2020 14:07

I think if he's moved it to Sunday then some measures will be relaxed, but doing it after the Bank Holiday weekend means everyone can't rush out having picnics or family gatherings (or whatever will now be allowed)

TheGreatWave · 04/05/2020 14:10

Recycling centres are already re-opening.

boobsboobsboobs · 04/05/2020 14:12

@megletthesecond

Next spring....?! You’ll be allowed to see them long before that - whether you choose to or not is another matter.

You mean what was printed in the newspapers last night?

boobsboobsboobs · 04/05/2020 14:14

@Biscuit0110 I read that too -fingers crossed!

vanillandhoney · 04/05/2020 14:17

Recycling centres are already re-opening.

I don't think they ever needed to close - the only reason they did is because a lot of people were off sick or isolating and they deployed the workers to bin collections instead.

I see a lot of posts like this - 'well, McDonald's/KFC/Homebase" are opening so things are easing when in fact those places never needed to shut in the first place.

Biscuit0110 · 04/05/2020 14:19

The recycling centres are not open here, I emailed ours and got a militant reply about waiting for restrictions to lift or some such rubbish, half the country has been operating and open for days.

YgritteSnow · 04/05/2020 14:22

And people everywhere up and down the country are fed up.

But many aren't. A poll I saw said 49% want to stay in lockdown for longer, 47% have had enough and the other were "I don't know" and another I saw said 60% think lockdown should be extended. Sorry I can't link as I can't remember where I saw them.

HouseTornado · 04/05/2020 14:22

@Biscuit0110 I hope so - that sounds like paradise!

FurForksSake · 04/05/2020 14:30

Lockdown is much easier for some than others, personally we are absolutely fine. We fact time family, 7 year old is doing 3-4 lessons a day (oak national and some bitesized or the odd worksheet), 4 year old is doing some school work and playing etc. Husband is fully able to work from home and I am furloughed so although I am now a 50's housewife... it is all just fine. We have our shopping delivered (we are vulnerable with cardiomyopathy for one and regular bronchitis and asthma for the other). We won't be rushing out of lockdown.

Others are in overcrowded accommodation, without decent outside space, unable to work and living on benefits or dwindling savings I'd say although they are frightened too and worried for their families they will be more keen for lockdown to end as how they are living is intolerable.

Education gaps will widen, disparity will increase across all levels and we need to learn to love the virus.
