I don't understand this theory AT ALL. How can people seriously believe this?

People are dying and yet, there are people who don't believe this and think hospitals are empty.

Not sure the point of this post. I guess to hear that other people think this theory is crazy!?

Some people are taking the A&E being quiet for the entire hospital being quiet and there being no covid patients 🙄 I find it's best to ignore these kinds of people, even when firmly debunked they usually carry on in ignorant bliss

There is an element of truth about the empty hospital but the fact is they were preparing for the worst and that hasn't necessarily happened/or will. If people hadn't stayed home the hospitals would be failing to cope. They don't understand capacity at hospitals is a bloody good thing.

I can see why some people might think it. If it's not touched your life, it's hard to balance against giving up life as we've known it so then conspiracy is the default

I have not heard nor know of anyone who has had it in any form. So then it can make it seem sensationalist and an over reaction, when other stats suggest the death rate isn't abnormal.

I'm not for one minute suggesting it is a hoax and I understand from reading mumsnet it has sadly touched people's lives.

A hoax in which 20000 people have died and the number of deaths above the 5 year average suggests this number should be nearer 25000 is some fucking hoax.

People are very stupid and easily manipulated. Critical thinking is not an important part if our education system.

I love a good conspiracy theory.

One of my faves on this is that there is no virus. It’s all just suggestion. People are getting sick because of the suggestion of a virus because stress affects the body in different ways. So it’s essentially a government stress test.

A more local one is that it’s a hoax. Where I live (Channel Islands) we were occupied by the nazi forces during ww2. We are coming up to the 75th anniversary of liberation.
So the lovely crazy theory is that our government has organised us to be “occupied” again the rest of the world isn’t suffering from the virus. There is no virus. On the liberation day we will be “freed” from lockdown and told it was all a “we wanted you to see how your grandparents felt during the war” thing.

I don’t believe this but it is funny that our lockdown will lift supposedly on the liberation anniversary day...... 😉

With hospitals they're trying to keep CV19 patients separate as it's highly infectious, so it may seem quiet in standard A&E.

It always seemed awful but remote to me until a relative died of it and that made it very real.

I guess I can understand how a paranoid person might think it’s a hoax. I only know one person who has tested positive. They’ve said they were a bit unwell but didn’t go to hospital. I haven’t actually seen anyone sick. I’ve not known anyone to die from it. The illness doesn’t have any visible symptoms in the way that small pox or meningitis does so photographs of very ill patients aren’t particularly useful in convincing people that covid is the cause of the issue. Then of course the way different governments have responded to the issue is confusing at best. Kazakhstan are insisting they’ve had no cases. China proclaimed victory over it only to put more cities on lockdown. Trump is taking the piss. Boris has looked a bit disheveled and had to go into hospital for oxygen (although he always looks like he has a bad hangover and could do with some kind of medical treatment anyway).

I’m sure that people who are naturally suspicious could find it difficult to believe. Even when you remove the outliers off the extremely suspicious and look at the general population the degree of belief in the seriousness of covid varries. Sone believe it’s not that much deadlier than the average flu and the whole thing has been blown out of proportion. Other people disinfect their shopping and report their neighbours for sitting down for a bit while out on a walk.

I think it’s real but I think it’s orchestrated.

Most people happily carry around a little box of technology that allows other people to trace their movements. Ask people to give up their smart phones because of 'big brother' and most would shrug and say they aren't bothered enough to go without the technology.
