I don't understand this theory AT ALL. How can people seriously believe this?

People are dying and yet, there are people who don't believe this and think hospitals are empty.

Not sure the point of this post. I guess to hear that other people think this theory is crazy!?

I just dont understand the whole idea that it is just the government rubbing their hands in utter glee at being able to control us all. I mean why? To what end?
I'm not sure it's this government's ideal, unless Boris is playing the bumbling buffoon act extremely well. However, I could believe it of certain God-complex politicians in the not too distant past; one in particular who occasionally rears his ugly head to pontificate at us (to which MN usually replies "AIBU to wish he would shut up?").

@BirdieFriendReturns I agree that this could be a way of bringing in a cashless society by stealth; get the public scared of those unhygienic bank notes. I haven't forgotten certain ideas that were previously toyed with, such as ID cards, or GPS tracking of everybody driving, so they could be taxed per mile (and spied on for good measure). These ideas proved massively unpopular at the time, so were shelved, but I bet the powers that be haven't forgotten them; they're waiting for the public mood to change, once we've got used to other voluntary surveillance measures, such as Alexa, black boxes for car insurance, and it might be centralised dashcams next. Google already knows where we travel, through our phones; and although they say this doesn't give the government access to individual data, I'm not totally believing of that.

And now I'm waiting to see if the government makes good on its promise to pay self-employed people, or if they think we'll have forgotten by June.

My husband's uncle thinks it's a hoax or some sort of conspiracy. He's on his own and has underlying health conditions so we feel we should ring and check on him regularly but every time husband tries to persuade him it's real. He's just not having it. He is generally a little on the eccentric side though.

This is another reason why it's so important to demand honesty and transparency from all our governments.

When the government are obviously not being honest and transparent then people will fill in the gaps for themselves. This is a mental health pandemic as well as a viral pandemic.

My own (rather dull) conspiracy theory is that they are carefully calibrating the timing of various financial help packages in order to nudge as many people as possible off old benefits and onto universal credit.

I think it's a real virus, but the risks are being grossly exaggerated and used for political gain. We have no idea what the true number of infections within the general population are, so it's very difficult to get an accurate picture of how deadly it is. Just seen the Dr Erickson press briefing on youtube and his estimates for the true death rates in most affected countries are between 0.03-0.05 %.

Why would any government do that ?
It's costing the country hundreds of billions
and it isn't that they got bored and had nothing else to do, what with Brexit and all that ....

What political gain do Boris and the Tories get from wildly exaggerating the risks ?

Even the most paranoid anti-Tory would struggle to find one

and it's not like they could secretly murder 20,000 British people and also many thousands more in care homes,
without anyone spilling the beans

I feel the 'why' is less important than the fact that it's already happened.

Just sit and think about how many rights you've surrendered in the past few months through fear, and the fact that there's absolutely no plan for when you'll get them back. This is the situation we're all in.

In New York City, the COVID death toll is 22,000 (and they don't count care home deaths)

At 0.05% death rate that would require an infected population of 44 million !

... but even if every single resident of NYC had COVID, there are only 8 million of them

btw, if you think NYC deaths are faked, look at the spike in deaths for all causes, week-to-week, compared to the average over the last few years

Why would governments around the world

• left, right, centre, democratic, dicatorships, theocrats -

all suddenly agree on this complicated plan to kill hundreds of thousands of people around the world

just for some nebulous "taking away peoples' rights"
They haven't even demanded anal probes yet, so they can't be ET lizards

That conspiracy also involves some of them, like Boris & some of his advisers & ministers in the UK, becoming ill themselves

Some of those countries are dictatorships they can take away all rights anyway,

Even Fox News is only putting the figures for New York State at 16,600. And that graph you've posted also refers to New York State rather than city. I think you're on a weird little scaremongering trip of your own right now. I'm off to bed.

Well that would explain why Boris was not put on a ventilator, despite him saying it "could have gone either way". Compare also him having two, named nurses "keeping watch" over him as he slept, with the description she gives of "care" in that particular hospital in NYC.

This isn't the first time i've heard venitlators are largely inappropriate for covid-19 because of the thickness of the lung mucus. Hence the 50% chance of death if you get put on one. I hope these professionals keep speaking out.

What is the end game?? I just want someone who thinks this is all a made up hoax to come and tell me exactly what the PLAN is? Where they think these people want our country in 5 years time? Destroy the world wide economy, why? Kill off hundreds of thousands of people from all walks of life, why?

I don't think it's a hoax but there is truth in the stuff about hospitals being empty. I work in a hospital and have never seen it so quiet. I'm working on a covid ward and we've had 2 patients in the last 2 weeks. We've had no patients since Friday so the nurses are basically sitting twiddling their thumbs in between paperwork.

So because of what I'm experiencing at work I'm really angry hearing about people dying in care homes, clinical appointments being cancelled etc. A HCA I work with was due her pre op assessment for a hip replacement the week that lockdown started and has now had her op cancelled. She's walking about and her face is grey from the pain she's in while the ortho wards are lying empty.
