The thing that gets me is mike brown proudly sending
emails saying - Tube use is down 95%

Nobody is that stupid - it must be a plan?

Enjoyed throwing the economy down the toilet to “save lives” of Londoners who soon won’t be able to travel to the jobs they get, if they’re lucky.

"Seroprevalence study in Geneva: 5.5% of the population infected with #SARS-CoV-2. Translates into 27’000 cases, roughly 6 times more than officially announced.

If representative of Switzerland, we’ve missed 5 out 6 cases, with an IFR just below 1. "

"Keep in mind, Geneva was relatively hard hit, in a country that was relatively hard hit. I expect the numbers to be lower in other places.

Take away 1: Mortality ~10x higher than the flu in a good HC system

Take away 2: This is far from over. 94.5% still no immunity"

USW have apparently created an accurate 20 min test, and it could be rolled out to Cwm Taf care homes within weeks....anyone know why they can’t use this test throughout Wales? Surely being able to test quickly and reliably within care homes would help massively?

RigaBalsam · 22/04/2020 14:54

Quote'However, scientists are now warning that people aged 50 to 69 are also at an increased risk of becoming severely ill or dying from coronavirus.
It comes as more than half of those in critical care with Covid-19 in Britain fall into that age bracket.'

ToffeeYoghurt · 22/04/2020 15:00

What happens to the Londoners you refer to Lilac (I thought you were one btw, although I think you've said you don't care if you die off it?) if they catch Covid and die or are off sick for weeks and weeks mostly bedbound? And they can't get treatment because everybody else, including the healthcare workers (around 100 have already died) are sick or dying. Or they can't get to work because all their colleagues or clients or customers are off sick or dying. Or the transport workers. We've already had bus and cab drivers die. Imagine how many more would die without lockdown. What impact on the economy would that have.

Aside from the moral issues, a premature end to lockdown would be economic suicide. We're on course to be one of the countries with the highest death rates. That's with lockdown. A bad second wave would cause infinitely worse economic damage especially long-term than any short-term disruption from a longer initial lockdown.

I keep saying but it's so important. More haste, less speed.

LilacTree1 · 22/04/2020 15:14

Toffee yes, I am one

I’d rather die or be ill than live in 1984.

I might have had work and a transport system to use if I recovered.

I just spoke to a train driving neighbour who said “everyone’s acting like I want to kill people when I just don’t want to jump off this block myself”. And I can’t hug him 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m guessing you’re quite well off.

LilacTree1 · 22/04/2020 15:14

And most of the people dying aren’t working.

RigaBalsam · 22/04/2020 15:19

Lilac do you honestly think 500k people is not worth the lockdown?

LilacTree1 · 22/04/2020 15:22

Riga - yes. I do.

A supermarket worker said to me “ I didn’t expect to see this unless 30% of the population were car,OMG it”. Yes, he knows me quite well 😂

LilacTree1 · 22/04/2020 15:23

*carking it

Sorry, clearly autocorrect dislikes slang!

SistemaAddict · 22/04/2020 15:24

What is it exactly @LilacTree1 about lockdown that you object to?
Your comments about the vulnerable could be construed as saying they aren't important, especially if they aren't working. I'm not working and as per my earlier post, I'm extremely clinically vulnerable. It is not worth trying to protect the lives of people like me because we don't have economical value and aren't healthy anyway? I find your posts quite odd but then I have ASD so don't always understand what posters are trying to say if they aren't very clear.

LilacTree1 · 22/04/2020 15:27

No offence, Bercow, I was just it’s saying guidance because I’ve a shielding relative who panicked because he thought it might be enforceable.

I really apologise if that was patronising.

RigaBalsam · 22/04/2020 15:32

It's ok Bercows I find it rather odd too.

thesedaysarescary · 22/04/2020 15:35

Lilac is on every board moaning about the lockdown and how she would rather be able to visit her mum and live her normal life. How mental health is more important and how the economy is going to tank and more people die anyway. She is totally unable to see past her own living situation and own desires.

Frompcat · 22/04/2020 15:40

I'm with Lilac for the most part tbh.

RigaBalsam · 22/04/2020 15:40

Sad that people actually think like that but hey ho

LilacTree1 · 22/04/2020 15:51

I do accept there may be massive benefits to lockdown but many won’t live long enough to see them.

mrshoho · 22/04/2020 16:23

Lilac your vision of the UK if no lockdown had been put in place is a fairy tale. Say 500,000 were to die, even if you choose not to put any value on their lives we could have 4 million on top of this needing hospital care. Then we'd have maybe 40 million ill at home or if they are lucky asymptomatic. How do think the economy, which is your no 1 priority, would cope with that? How long before everything shuts down? If you think this lockdown is bad just try imagining the other scenario.

LilacTree1 · 22/04/2020 16:26

Mrshoho, I’m nothing if not open minded.

My post just said I accept there are benefits to lockdown.

I don’t hang out on MN with a totally closed mind and refuse to change it.

BamboozledandBefuddled · 22/04/2020 16:31

I'm with Lilac for the most part tbh

So am I.

You know what level we've sunk to as humans when someone affirms they'd rather see 500,000 others dead than give up their way of life for a while.

Guess some people just have a bigger selfish gene than (thankfully) most humans.
