The problem I can see with releasing lockdown by age is mainly that a large amount of the 20-30 category are employed by people over 30 so would many of them have work to go to if they’re boss can’t come to work? Lots work in pubs cafes restaurants which wouldn’t be open- or have more junior positions in companyswhere none of the senior staff would be there - how would that work? Also lots of households where couples would fit either side of 30- so that would be hard to manage( less so admittedly).

Ladyellow · 10/04/2020 15:19

I guess schools would also have to take the children of parents from this group too?

Beebityboo · 10/04/2020 15:31

I'm having a really hard day today. Just can't seem to stop crying and really need to pull myself together. The numbers of people dying are horrendous. We have no car so still need to shop at the local co-op two or three times a week and every time I suffer from terrible panic attacks.
It feels like life will never be ok again. I am so sad for my children who have been through enough the last two years. And I miss my mum Sad.

Sorry all, just really needed to vent.

LurksAscending · 10/04/2020 15:36

Just seen this on the Guardian live stream. Not sure what this does to the trajectory?

NHS England has announced 866 new deaths of people who tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 8,114.

Of the 866 new deaths announced today, 117 occurred on 9 April while 720 took place between 1 April and 8 April.

The remaining 29 deaths occurred in March, including one on March 5.

Biggerblackhole · 10/04/2020 16:00

Beebit Flowers I had a day like that yesterday. Out of interest, have you been isolating for about 4 weeks now? I have and wondered whether that was the breaking point mood wise. I know it's hard when you feel so low, but do go easy on yourself. If it's a duvet day you need I hope you can take it, there's no shame right now.

CharlieTangoBanana · 10/04/2020 16:14

@Saucery I don't think she's got a choice, she's crossed a line by lying about her BF having a Covid test, that alone would be bad enough but it's the fact that she was willing to bring her BF into our house knowing what the virus would likely do to me. As for her being with SIL I don't think she will be the one doing the annoying SIL is very strange, her own DC are minimal contact because of her psychological issues. DD has maintained a relationship with her because she benefits from it financially. If she did get kicked out she would need to sort something out herself.

@LilacTree1 I guess I would have to get used to life the way it is, I am keen to discuss my situation with my respiratory consultant when and if he comes through this.

Beebityboo · 10/04/2020 16:38

Yep almost exactly four weeks @Biggerblackhole. I have now admitted defeat and moping in bed with my 4 year old for company. I know it could be worse, I am so blessed that I haven't lost anyone to this, but the constant anxiety and fear of coming down with it ( I have some underlying issues as does DD) is just so exhausting and relentless.

www.theguardian.com/world/2020/apr/10/coronavirus-uk-deadliest-day-deaths-announced
953 deaths in the UK. 😣

LurksAscending · 10/04/2020 16:52

@mrshoho I'm quite confused about the figures today, as the Guardian are also reporting todays numbers from England span a few weeks rather than just 24 hours?

peridito · 10/04/2020 16:57

So now it's being announced that the nos of deaths reported are from a large time scale .

I suppose to mitigate the high numbers .

There is a great deal of analysis of date stamped deaths v.deaths reported on a day over on the Daily numbers, graphs ,analysis thread .

NHS publish deaths according to date

www.england.nhs.uk/statistics/statistical-work-areas/covid-19-daily-deaths/

mrshoho · 10/04/2020 17:00

It is confusing but the figures we are given each day are not the actual number in the last 24 hours but rather the numbers officially recorded. So they also now say how many died between certain days/dates. This is the lag they refer to and so not all deaths that will occur today will be included in tomorrow's data.

moimichme · 10/04/2020 17:00

Thanks peridito - so in other words, there will almost certainly be an upwards revision of numbers from yesterday, too.

peridito · 10/04/2020 17:02

Lurks the nos updated by the gov each day have always been a number that is made up of deaths that happened at various times in the past .

I think the reporting varies according to hospital and Trust and IT glitches can delay sometimes .

Plus I guess there's post mortems for those suspected of Covid and other stuff that I'm not clear about .I think it might also be down to the burden of admin and priorities in short staffed hospitals .

peridito · 10/04/2020 17:05

I think from comments on the numbers thread ( I don't have much understanding tho ) that it may be that a graph showing deaths on the day they happened would have a less steep rise than one plotted from reported deaths only .

LurksAscending · 10/04/2020 17:16

I find it all very confusing!!

reallyagain · 10/04/2020 17:21

Beebity are there no independent suppliers delivering in your area? We've now got a few deliveries per week, none from the supermarkets. Main one we're getting is a local supplier previously supplying restaurants. Is there nothing like this in your area?

CricketCrocket · 10/04/2020 17:29

I’m sure Matt Hancock just said there were 980 deaths in the press conference...

HeIenaDove · 10/04/2020 17:36

@mrshoho that manager should face a charge IMO

There was a Scottish guy. (Darren McGarvey i think his name was) on Question Time last night. He was very good at explaining how all this is disproportionately affecting the poor.

Keepdistance · 10/04/2020 17:45

Seems odd like they are trying to create a false peak?

But looking at nhs figures the totals are the same as pp said the data by day is just different.
Maybe it is because despite the deaths there are an unknown number still in hospital/icu so some idioys might think ahh the deaths have stopped it's ok but actually the nhs cant maybe cope with an increase.
Though maybe in hospital is
Cases-deaths mainly?

Certainly in my area there are a lot more deaths in the last 2w up to i think 34 deaths in the one trust and maybe 20 something in the other.
i think there are 242 cases

CrunchyCarrot · 10/04/2020 17:57

Today's updated chart. 980 new deaths (highest daily yet) making the total deaths 8,958. Sobering stuff.

When I hear the daily death count, my brain initially assumes it's the overall figure. Sad

Hormonecrazyhell · 10/04/2020 18:04

I just heard on bbc news that the uk deaths today topped Italy & Spain’s worse day to date :(

disappointed101 · 10/04/2020 18:17

I have been thinking about New York and why the outbreak /death figure is so bad. After 9/11, there were lots of people who suffered from chronic lung illness from breathing in all the crap after the towers collapsed. Do you think this has had any impact all these years later?

MurrayTheMonk · 10/04/2020 18:28

Awful death toll today :(

middleager · 10/04/2020 18:42

Hormone that's alarming. I remember as both those countries were creeping towards 1k per day thinking how horrendous that was.

Such a tragic waste. It need not have come to this.
