I got my letter signed by Boris Johnson today. A good move actually, plainly and simply written.

IwantKoalas · 10/04/2020 13:05

It is disgusting. Their employees have to go to work with food poisoning and the conditions are inhumane

PJMasksGhekko · 10/04/2020 13:06

My brothers ex (she doesn't have the girls, my brother does) has decided she's going on a picnic with her neighbour and kids today, why can't some people understand the stay at home message!!

TheCanterburyWhales · 10/04/2020 13:12

Checking in. Hope you're all well.
Italy most definitely on the mend as all TV news (and bloody dp with whom I frequently have political arguments) back to blaming the EU for everything. Gah.

NetDesMamans1 · 10/04/2020 13:25

Thanks for Thread #37!

DadDadDad · 10/04/2020 13:26

@LilacTree1 - you said that varying lockdown by age is "insane for lots of reasons". Could you actually state one of those reasons? You've given your view on why they might struggle to enforce it entirely (and I can see some sense in what you are saying), but I can't see why it's not worth considering in principle as a way to help the economy while keeping a lid on hospital admissions.

mrshoho · 10/04/2020 13:26

@MigginsMs yes he is! But it also exposes the Company ethos as instead of dismissing him for gross misconduct/negligence he is to be retrained! I would imagine his ranting was being led from higher up in the organisation. He put the safety of the employees at risk but also the general public really due to the heavy approach to scare people into coming into work when they potentially should be isolating.

@IwantKoalas I hope they will investigate this factory.

@TheStarryNight I'm glad there are responsible companies that are sensible and put safety first.

RedToothBrush · 10/04/2020 13:28

I'm 41. I can pass for 28 or 29.

Would i want to?

No, cos I'm not bloody stupid...

ClientQ · 10/04/2020 13:33

@DadDadDad they will also have to rule out all the young people that are shielding

LilacTree1 · 10/04/2020 13:48

In principle...

Lockdown release should be about other factors. So businesses who can operate social distancing would be more important than a business squashing in several under 30s.

It depends what you think lockdown is about. I think it’s a poor idea full stop. A couple of years of this and many die for other reasons, or have a terrible quality of life.

Stopping the spread of the virus would be more about stopping large gatherings rather than deciding certain people can go to a PR job but others can’t even have tea with their mum.

People will try to pass for a certain age if it gets them back to earning a wage and who can blame them?

MarshaBradyo · 10/04/2020 13:49

By age sounds good to me.

LilacTree1 · 10/04/2020 13:52

“ It seems very unfair on people over 70, who will be in lockdown far longer than is good for their mental health or fitness. Particularly if they are in a high -risk place like London.”

LilacTree1 · 10/04/2020 13:52

Sorry, that should say “ agree” after that!

CharlieTangoBanana · 10/04/2020 13:56

An update on my spoilt DD, I messaged her BF's mum via fb and as predicted there was no Covid19 test for her or her DS and to make matters worse she told me that DD was asked to leave her home due to her massive attitude problem and unwillingness to pull her weight with chores, cooking etc.

I'm so ashamed of DD, I've made it crystal clear that she will have to stay with SIL for the duration of lockdown and needs to find somewhere to live as soon as life returns to normal.

I really don't understand it, she's the youngest of six and it's as if she comes from a different family, but I do see her attitude reflected in a lot of her age group it's so sad.

CharlieTangoBanana · 10/04/2020 14:01

I think it will be by age and Co morbidity I'm not over 70 but the fact that I have respiratory failure means I won't feel safe until there is a vaccine.

Saucery · 10/04/2020 14:05

Will she stay there, Charlie do you think, or will she be a pain in the butt to your SIL in the hope she’ll get chucked out?

LilacTree1 · 10/04/2020 14:05

Charlie, if there’s no vaccine for a couple of years, do you have a plan for life going forward?

oralengineer · 10/04/2020 14:21

I think that the 20-30 yr olds will be mightily pissed off when they realise that it will only be the work restrictions lifted and that they will still have to socially distance. So work but no play. Also if they are unemployed they will only be able to go out if they have a job to go to.
This is while the rest of us enjoy the summer in our gardens.

Brahx · 10/04/2020 14:22

Do you think we should cancel our holiday to Yorkshire for July?

LilacTree1 · 10/04/2020 14:25

Oral “ This is while the rest of us enjoy the summer in our gardens.”

Well, you can.

That is another reason why age lockdown release would be odd.

I think the government will have to lift the “gatherings of two” thing first.

I’m going to try and find a walking route to mum’s but it’s going to be so complicated, I’ll probably get lost 😂

TwentyViginti · 10/04/2020 14:26

953 new recorded hospital deaths in the UK.

ali1476 · 10/04/2020 14:28

2x kids at home and all generally ok but I can't help but feel worried. My sister shared a number you can call to talk about how you're affected - I just left a message and it was strangely cathartic. They're not a helpline but Would recommend it. The number is 03330 509502 x

woodencoffeetable · 10/04/2020 14:29

we had a helicopter flying over our area last night.
first one I noticed, according to local news our main street is also a helicopter route, but usually it's too noisy in general to notice.

MollyButton · 10/04/2020 14:47

Well one massive positive - I just had a loaf of bread delivered by a neighbour who was going to a supermarket. So that means I'm not even tempted to go today. The community pulling together is a real plus.

EmeraldShamrock · 10/04/2020 14:59

@TheCanterburyWhales That is great news about Italy, even if it means EU and Brexit talk starts up again. Grin
