We should be too — these people are precious and count This. It is the same here, being left to die with desperate care workers battling with infection control for a tenner an hour. They didn't learn anything from Spanish NH abandoned. They need to count all deaths.
The carers will be left with PTSD.

Youngatheart00 · 15/04/2020 23:47

It is absolutely criminal that people in real need are being kept out of hospital and as a result the figures manipulated. Makes me so angry.

30daysoflight · 15/04/2020 23:54

Omg I had oxygen sats of 75% and after oxygen, antibiotics and prednisolone I recovered after pneumonia. Please don't write people off. I also have asthma copd and pernicious anaemia. We can survive if we get correct treatment for goodness sake xw

Summerofloaf · 16/04/2020 00:08

I don’t understand why there are so many free ITU beds yet so many people dying outside hospital. Something not right about this.

colouringinpro · 16/04/2020 00:12

EnMac that Guardian article is horrific.

Unfortunately it is a case of survival of the fittest, under the same circumstances today you would not be considered a priority, survival rates would be against you. It seems they are not bothering to remove people from ventilators for healthier people, they're not offering them to the sick at all unless theres a fighting chance of survival.

There’s a thread in AIBU about Covid-19 having escaped from a lab. Someone called the OP bat shit.

And the irony of calling a Coronavirus conspiracy theory “bat shit crazy” just struck me.

As bats (and their shit) are one of the more likely explanations/sources of this whole thing.

So a “bat shit theory” is really a sane, logical, rational, some scientific basis theory not a tin foil hat crazy one. So now something can be “bat shit sane”.

Starry, i told mum in February that it was bat shit. She didn’t get it 🤷🏻‍♀️

TheStarryNight · 16/04/2020 01:25

Lilac In other news, Scottish People Twitter informs me that the new Nightingale Hospital in Glasgow has been renamed.

ICU Jimmy.

I miss my hometown now.

That kind of humour is the only way forward that isn’t “this way madness lies”. Really shouldn’t be like that. But it is.

KathyBriggs360 · 16/04/2020 01:40

I am not going to lie, I am absolutely terrified for myself and my newborn. I am a single mother and if something happens to me I don't know what to do. My baby is everything to me and I am scared that if I catch COVID-19 then I'll end up making an orphan in this world Sad

TheStarryNight · 16/04/2020 01:44

Aww @KathyBriggs360. I’m sorry to hear that. Unmumsnetty hugs.

OP posts:
EmeraldShamrock · 16/04/2020 01:46

@KathyBriggs360 Try to relax. The majority of people are fine after it. Your fears are understandable too, I have the fear and dread myself for my DC.
Especially when they say everyone has to catch it eventually. I'm doubtful id survive it or the anxiety will kill me. Wink

LilacTree1 · 16/04/2020 01:49

Starry 😂 brilliant!

TheStarryNight · 16/04/2020 01:54

@EmeraldShamrock are you saying there is no way of avoiding this? Oh my god I'm so scared right now, I had asthma and really bad health anxiety. What if I already have it and I am just a ticking time bomb? My poor baby I can't leave her alone in this world I just can't...

TheStarryNight · 16/04/2020 02:01

Deep breaths @KathyBriggs360, deep breaths

KathyBriggs360 · 16/04/2020 02:05

@TheStarryNight yes OK, I'm sorry. I know I need to calm down. I just wish it was all over.

TheStarryNight · 16/04/2020 02:07

Me and you both @KathyBriggs360, me and you both.

Now, can I offer you a cuppa Brew

OP posts:
EmeraldShamrock · 16/04/2020 02:15

are you saying there is no way of avoiding this? No I have no idea what will happen.
My DM caught it she was tested in the hospital, she was there for a different reason, she has lots of underlying health issues and 10 days later she hasn't had any illness or symptoms of Covid despite being positive. I cried my eyes out when i heard she was positive, I thought she was gone, she was discharged to home isolation today. Fingers crossed.

alloutoffucks · 16/04/2020 02:21

It seems to depend a lot on your immune system. You can have underlying health issues but still have a strong immune system. And vice versa. Glad she is okay.

woodencoffeetable · 16/04/2020 06:08

Does anyone know if it is safe to use an oxygen mask at home if covid positive struggling to breath.

no idea, I guess she needs to ask when/if she gets ill.
I have read though that home cpap machines (the kind people with sleep apnoea use) are quite effective in mild cases with helping breathing.

Humphriescushion · 16/04/2020 06:25

@EmeraldShamrock France started adding in deaths outside hosptials around 2nd April, the numbers escalated. Care home deaths are not approaching 50 percent. This is reflected in other countries who count them as well i believe. This is horrendous.

Hospital deaths for France are around 10,000 so less than the uk. We have reached our peak.

Sorry i know i keep saying this but the uks figures are very unclear and they often say they are tracking France - this is from the government and this worries me. We need care home no. I know the ons publish but the no. Is not clear, there is a big lag and i cant see where they are then added onto the gov, figures.

I think ireland and belguim also count in care homes as well and these figures were also around 40 percent. So this is important.

Alwayscheerful · 16/04/2020 07:40

@Humphriescushion not=now approaching?

Humphriescushion · 16/04/2020 07:56

@Alwayscheerful oops sorry yes now approaching! What a stupid typo, need an edit button.
10,643 in hospital, i think it is 6,524now in care homes. So an even bigger percentage.
