And that statement again 'gaslights' when they say they are showing their support for the NHS, are working together to fight the virus and to please stay at home

FFS

From Twitter replies:
These reports date to early April"... looks at calendar... It's early April now.

Quite. The police are just utterly clueless.
They truly think were thick, don't they?

Or is it also that they're just not used to dealing with people who are unafraid enough of them to clap back? 👋👋👏👏

Aesopfable · 13/04/2020 09:16

What has happened to ‘innocent unless proven guilty’?

HeIenaDove · 13/04/2020 20:02

Just seen this WTF!!! Looks like a poorer area again too.

Helena, I’ve not been able to get on Twitter since last night.

ShockShock @HeIenaDove
Just another isolated incident, eh?

LilacTree1 · 14/04/2020 01:23

Okay, I’ve managed to view it.

You should not be able to enter someone’s property under those circumstances.

Here’s a more cheerful police video from the US

That BBC one is disgraceful. It's particularly noticeable that all the police officers have gloves yet they haven't bothered to put them on - so they're happily touching loads of surfaces in the flat with their potentially infected hands, or indeed picking up the virus if the owner of the flat is infected.

Given that the man is on his own, it sounds highly unlikely that they can genuinely have thought there was a group of people there, because they would have heard it. Simply being unwilling to open your door in those circumstances doesn't justify them breaking in.

JudyCoolibar · 14/04/2020 05:33

We're the DC then not only playing in front garden but on the street as well?

Irrelevant. The officer is earnestly telling them that no-one is allowed in their front gardens, whether they are children or adults. So clearly this has nothing to do with children playing there.

Whilst it appears that she was wrong, there may be more to this than we know. We don't really know the full story - only the video that he's taken, which won't have been recorded from the very start of the conversation, which may have been going on for a while.

If that was the case, the police wouldn't have apologised and admitted their officer was totally incorrect.

chomalungma · 14/04/2020 08:11

BBC have just said that the police want to get people to confront people who are breaching 'guidelines' because they have been overwhelmed by calls.

LetTheCabbagesDie · 14/04/2020 08:11

Was it South Yorkshire police in that video, too?

chomalungma · 14/04/2020 08:18

Wow - that one where the police kicked the door down. You can see why someone would be annoyed by that.

And they come in, no gloves, no face masks...

It's not one for prime time TV though, is it...

1984isnow · 14/04/2020 08:47

BBC have just said that the police want to get people to confront people who are breaching 'guidelines' because they have been overwhelmed by calls.

Is it an article on the site?

That is completely irresponsible of both the BBC and the police. Do we really need 'vigilante justice' right now? We all know the types of people(thugs) that would take it up on themselves to do this.

I read that in another country, I forget which, the street gangs are 'enforcing' lockdown.

LetTheCabbagesDie · 14/04/2020 10:32

1984isnow I read that was happening in the favelas in Brazil

Yes that was the one, but I saw it in a Times article.

LetTheCabbagesDie · 14/04/2020 10:48

Cambridgeshire police have been cited in two articles I've read (the non-essential shopping and questioning NHS staff on the way to work). Doesn't look like these reminders to staff are actually enough, sounds like further measures may be required.

LilacTree1 · 14/04/2020 10:58

I think further measures are in order

Meanwhile, I think some of my neighbours have been up to something as we got an odd email from management company.

It tries to say “don’t smoke in your flats” but then goes on to say smoking is not allowed in the common parts”.

There was a very strong smell of weed in the lift the other day but I think that was the lingering odour of a guy who always reeks of weed.

Anyway, I looked at it and thought, people are making stuff up aren’t they? If you tried to spark up in the common parts, the smoke alarm would go off right away.

We certainly need to keep them in check as any large group of people even 1.4m NHS workers, or 500k teachers never mind police will have people doing bad things. Mobile phones with recording functions are very useful in gathering evidence against abuse of power.

I have never seen to few police out our way but we are a peaceful suburb so they must be in other parts of the borough. They did run off a group of people playing a cricket match in my borough which I can understand as in cricket you do get close to others at times.

LilacTree1 · 14/04/2020 17:04

Xenia

Cricket is a gathering of more than two, so currently banned.

The days where police can go "have a word" are over

Erm hello.

I don't expect the person still gets it. Considering how they cannot even be bothered to read the threads. Many people have gone the official route and received financial compensation.

If these things didn't happen then why did they receive this cash?
And I am not confused with the Victim Scheme.

Why not say in the first place, worded in a helpful way to those who might not know. The ones YOU claim were trying to have a friendly chat by PM.

Because you didn't want someone to post details on-line in case it Id'd them or something such nonsense.

Surely it should have simply been. -

I know it's hard all around, blah blah blah. Here is the process.

Instead no. You imply in your OWN words you didn't want to hear their story when their story has nothing to do with why they want to complain.

Who do you actually think you are, to want to probe a Victim for information and then offer the complaint process in your own words. And the sickening thing is you wanted to do it behind closed doors. Where there was no-one to say you are having a fucking laugh of course. it's a crime - here's all the info. you actually need.

But please. Carry on. I want to hear more about this "help"

canigooutyet · 14/04/2020 17:53

With the tide turning as it is. And the sun is shining.
Someone really needs to think before they speak.

itaintthatdeeep · 14/04/2020 17:58

People always talk about training but it's a lack of common sense and over use of power.

There are many things in life that we are not trained for Such as parent hood and most jobs are always lacking in the correct training.

LilacTree1 · 15/04/2020 14:33

Does anyone know why Shropshire police are apologising?

More bad news

Neighbour happily told me how bad snitches are but then said “but I did report some lads playing football in the park yesterday. The police came right away”. No one you can trust.

The police are absolutely loving throwing their weight around, ably assisted by the modern day stasi of curtain twitching reporters.
