Course there was harm done.

Everyones tired bored stressed and in many many cases incredibly lonely all desperately doing grief best to stay with in guidelines while dick heads on face book accuse them of being murderers for going to their wheely bins and then to top it all off the police are acting like bullies and getting away with it. The public is losing faith in the police by the day through things like this and when no one wants to help the police because of it then crime rates will go through the roof. I'd say that was a hard ful outcome

LetTheCabbagesDie · 11/04/2020 13:22

No real harm was done

Oh I see, so as long as "no real harm is done" those in a position of power can do whatever they want, whenever they want... Hmm

Derbygerbil · 11/04/2020 13:23

Mass loss of trust in police is a terribly grave harm.

I don’t think one police officer over-reaching like this, and subsequently apologising, has caused “mass loss of trust in the Police”.

She was wrong. She was rather silly, but it’s hardly a Hillsborough... You’re over-reacting in much the same way she did.

Derbygerbil · 11/04/2020 13:27

Of course not, but the response has to be proportionate to the offence. Demanding a disciplinary is this circumstance is not at all proportionate. Her commanding officer should have spoken firmly and that should be the end of it.

LetTheCabbagesDie · 11/04/2020 13:27

So there are no other examples on social media (or indeed this thread) of police officers acting outside of their powers?

Hint hint : there are other examples and that's why people on this thread are concerned.

BoingBoingyBoing · 11/04/2020 13:31

I think there is a significant number of people who are positively enjoying the current state of affairs, like my village's community council who are shaming anyone outside the house, questioning whether people are going on 'essential' shopping trips.

LetTheCabbagesDie · 11/04/2020 13:40

Boing

I agreed it's bringing out a really odd side to people.

JudyCoolibar · 11/04/2020 13:45

But it's not one incident is it? When you get police chiefs solemnly announcing that they will be issuing fines to people with the wrong items in their shopping trolleys, and police forces going to all the trouble of making censorious films about people harmlessly walking in the countryside, it's a hell of a lot more than one junior officer over-reaching her powers.

chomalungma · 11/04/2020 13:54

Think before you 'police'.

Think about how your actions could be perceived. Especially if you are an officer in a senior position.

Anthilda · 11/04/2020 14:04

@Xenia I just came on to see if anyone was discussing this. I'm absolutely sickened by that video on the mail. Comments not allowed Hmm hopefully because the policeman in question is being investigated.
What on earth is this country coming to when people arent even allowed to get food parcels delivered.
I'm just totally angry about it tbh.
The guy was totally compliant. Felt so sorry for him Sad

MarginalGain · 11/04/2020 14:08

The Daily Mail video is shocking.

It's more something you would expect from the US police forces, which has a way more adversarial relationship with the public.

chomalungma · 11/04/2020 14:11

It is exactly like videos you see from US police forces when dealing with black people. Luckily our police aren't routinely armed.

SarahTancredi · 11/04/2020 14:17

The poor mum too. Tiny lady in bare feet being spoken to and pointed at so aggressively by a bloke twice her size...

He got off on that no doubt. He well enjoying it.

There are crowds apparently all over the place and yet theres time to arrest one mak on his own doing what's been asked if us to do.

LetTheCabbagesDie · 11/04/2020 14:26

But there will be posters swarming the thread to defend the actions of these officers Confused

LetTheCabbagesDie · 11/04/2020 14:27

Interestingly the videos seem to be in deprived areas.

I wonder how many Horatio's and Hermione's have been questioned on their travels Hmm

alloutoffucks · 11/04/2020 14:35

The police are stopping people travelling to second homes.

LilacTree1 · 11/04/2020 14:36

They’re not stopping Robert Jenrick.

Please keep your children in and safe. Youngest to die in today's figures ( 917) was 11 years old with NO underlying conditions. Nearly 1000 deaths a day higher than Italy and Spain's highest daily figures ( yesterday) just bear this in mind please and no one no age is invincible. Stay safeFlowers

HeIenaDove · 11/04/2020 15:29

@Xenia that is shocking and disgusting

Didnt Robert Jenrick also run an errand for his elderly parents. Why was that okay and this not?

VegetableMunge · 11/04/2020 15:39

Wondered the same myself cabbages.

HeIenaDove · 11/04/2020 15:41

Cabbages i suspected this would happen. I suspected poorer areas would be targeted.

alloutoffucks · 11/04/2020 15:46

@PicsInRed But nobody is being convicted in court for buying an easter egg.

alloutoffucks · 11/04/2020 15:47

@helenadove It was not okay for Robert Jensen to do that and he was heavily criticised for it.

PicsInRed · 11/04/2020 16:00

I don’t think one police officer over-reaching like this, and subsequently apologising, has caused “mass loss of trust in the Police”.

It's not one, it's a flipping bag full of them.

But nobody is being convicted in court for buying an easter egg

Only due to public outrage. It was absolutely the intent of the police in that area to prevent people buying Easter eggs.

Fines are being handed out. And we can be sure, from the videos we've seen, some will be for petty bullshit.

Anthilda · 11/04/2020 16:17

Agree @SarahTancredi.
It looks just like the racially motivated arrests that occur in America.
The police officer is on a power trip.
I honestly feel sickened by it.
