and do you think any changes will be made in order to prevent / reduce the risk of any other global pandemic in the future.

OP posts:
BooseysMom · 08/04/2020 18:31

It's life. We've just been lucky for a while.

Spot on! My DM was saying this for years. Before she passed away she predicted it. I blame her!

SMJYellow · 08/04/2020 19:52

I urge everyone to watch this to see where this came from:

bluebeck · 08/04/2020 19:56

I understood that viral pandemics come quite regularly and we were due one.

Why do you feel the need to cast blame OP?

SMJYellow · 08/04/2020 20:07

This is another good watch.

@MrsTerryPratchett thank you for making me smile. Please come and home ed my kids in SPAG and STEMGrin.

This thread is depressing on many levels. I do understand the anger and a need to blame someone but saying 'China' is not going to help.

I totally agree with a spontaneous mutation being the source. Random chance. Lots of different scientists in different countries have confirmed a natural source. Only conspiracy theorists say lab produced and have no evidence to back it up.

Mutations drive evolution and every so often a virus hits jackpot and goes rampant.

At the end of this am sure there will be endless investigations into what happened after the virus started killing followed by blame. Of individuals not entire nations.

Ilovemyhairbeingstroked · 08/04/2020 20:50

China , China and China

lookingformybrain · 08/04/2020 21:20

I would blame the chinese government for not raising the alarm sooner and trying to silence Dr. Li and I also blame them (Chinese government) for not shutting down all wet markets after the the SARS outbreak.

I don't for one minute blame the

lookingformybrain · 08/04/2020 21:21

Dont blame the people of china .

happyandsingle · 08/04/2020 21:26

If one good thing has come out of this is that if its correct china has imposed a ban on selling wild animals.

ClareVH · 08/04/2020 22:48

ALL meat-eating is cruel. It’s hypocritical to single out the Chinese. And all of the recent pandemics including COVID-18, SARS, MERS, Mad Cow Disease, and even possibly HIV, have come about due to eating animals.

Cassimin · 09/04/2020 16:11

Someone will probably contradict me but all of the animals we eat are not meat eaters.
I thought mad cow came around as we were altering the cows diet by feeding them foods contaminated with meat.

TheSandman · 09/04/2020 18:11

Someone will probably contradict me but all of the animals we eat are not meat eaters.

Chickens are not vegetarian.

SMJYellow · 09/04/2020 20:06

Clarevh

There was never a covid18. There's a covid19, the novel coronavirus that we see now.

Three of these diseases has started and come out from China already in this short century. All from getting too close and personal and slapping dogs and cats, bat's and rats onto their dinner plates. They have animal markets there that has bio hazardous conditions. When was the last time you went to a market at home that had cages of animals like cats and dogs, rodents, and wildlife birds along with the hanging carcasses and other stalls with cooked animals.

Some youtube videos has shown animals being skinned alive and cooked alive. Another youtube video has showed a group of people ribbing open a cows stomach and eating its raw flesh covered in the stomachs contents (have a guess what that was?).

Where do you see markets like that here at home in the UK or anywhere on continental Europe?

Boredbumhead · 09/04/2020 20:50

@MistyMinge2 I agree with you. Apparently the Wuhan institute of virology (clue in the name) was studying coronaviruses at the time. Workers had been infected before through poor control measures. The wet market is less than 200 meters away. Way too coincidental. Obama spent millions on checking overseas facilities of this kind for standards but Trump scrapped all that.

Boredbumhead · 09/04/2020 20:54

Here: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wuhan_Institute_of_Virology

Scroll down to the bit about cornovirus research.

Boredbumhead · 09/04/2020 20:57

"In 2015, a team including scientists from the Institute published successful research on whether a bat coronavirus could be made to infect HeLa. The team engineered a hybrid virus, combining a bat coronavirus with a SARS virus that had been adapted to grow in mice and mimic human disease. The hybrid virus was able to infect human cells."

That's the kind of shit they do there.

BeijingBikini · 09/04/2020 21:06

If it was man-made, I actually don't think it was China - if it was man-made for nefarious reasons, what was the motive? To fuck over their own economy?

Someone mentioned Bill Gates but if we're going full-on conspiracy:

  1. He has the fucking patent for Coronavirus
  2. He literally simulated a pandemic in October 2019 (Event 201, all over his own website) which predicted many of the things that have happened, like 15% drops in GDP
  3. He stands to gain a lot of profit from the vaccine, and has a foundation which is contributing a shit-ton to the vaccine research
  4. He seems to be piping up every single day doing interviews with newspapers about what we should do about it.....why is an ex-software developer so bloody interested?
Boredbumhead · 09/04/2020 21:16

@BeijingBikini yep he has some messianic belief in his ability to save humanity with technology. How was he able to predict all this and get a patent just months before?

Very very suspicious.

nibdedibble · 10/04/2020 15:03

This is so bizarre. It's like you know absolutely shit-all about the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

And Gates does not own a patent for SARS-COV-2. fullfact.org/online/wuhan-virus-patent-gates/

Amber0685 · 10/04/2020 15:17

I think it was an accidental lab leak.

nibdedibble · 10/04/2020 16:15

You do know there is a bunch of research proving that the accidental lab leak/engineered virus theories are not true?

I'm hiding this thread now, it's full of credulous twits.

Boredbumhead · 10/04/2020 17:42

@nibdedibble why shut down free speech?

And dont you think there are vested interests here? If course they would not admit it came from a lab. China would then have all its labs closed down.

Boredbumhead · 10/04/2020 17:54

The Chinese doctor who originally raised the alarm was silenced. It is not a stretch that the Chinese government would have silenced the origins too.
