Samtsirch please tell me how is it not helpful to talk about feeling etc (as some other poster said we are all going through this together0...so regardless of opinions , surely we should be able to say how we feel without being made out to be xenophobic. I do blame China, and there is nothing wrong in saying that

It feels like too much of a coincidence that there's a Porton down type facility not far from the outbreak in Wuhan. I don't think it's man made, but I do think they could have been analysing the virus or whatever at the lab and someone has monumentally fucked up somehow and the virus was able to get into the local environment.

I could blame fairies or the Illuminati. Doesn't make me correct or factual. Not all opinions are the same.

And racism isn't a feeling. Fear, sadness, frustration are. Racism isn't.

MrsTerryPratchett well whatever it is , I am not. Im fed up of this being brought into it. If nothing changes, it will happen again, but like you said people dont change and I doubt anything will in China.

China. I don’t buy that wet market story. However I don’t think it was done on purpose.

Agree with scottishgirl85

I have no idea why anyone would believe the conspiracy theories. Even if you believe they would have risked the international fall out of deliberately creating it, and ignore the obvious cause, it still isn't logical. The Chinese government don't exactly have a tradition of wonderful human rights, but they certainly aren't lacking when it comes to stem. If they were trying to create something to solve their population problems then you can pretty much guarantee they would have got it right. Not make a half arsed attempt before shutting down their economy to get it under control.

Burger Quean what do you mean? Genuinely interested.
I watched a two minute video of a Chinese wet market and I was deeply distressed, it was barbaric and gruesome.

Because a wet market is literally any market which doesn’t exclusively sell dry goods (such as cloth), but this pandemic has led to it being used as shorthand for ‘nasty Chinese markets which I don’t like the sound of’, and I think that anyone who is comfortable eating animals their way but condemns other people for eating animals a different way is a massive hypocrite and, often, racist (see also: people who complain about halal slaughter but think other kinds of slaughter are ‘humane’)

Meat eaters caused this pandemic, just like they caused SARS and MERS and bird flu and swine flu and are continuing to cause antibiotic resistance and the climate crisis, and if you’re only willing to point fingers at the Chinese and not at yourselves, you’ve got to do some soul searching to work our why.

And now, on that hopefully sobering thought, I’m going to bed.

"disgusting eating habits" lol in this country we chop an animal open and eat its insides and we drink a cow's bodily secretions. The only reason a nice bit of liver or leg of lamb with a glass of milk seems ok is because you are used to it.
