Covid

It would be a terrible, terrible mistake to ban exercise outside

Domestic violence has already increased, and whilst I know some people have been ignoring the rules the majority are abiding by them. The knock on effects for people’s mental health and the safety of women and children inside the home would be terrible.
It would be such an infringement of people’s liberty and terrible for the mental and physical health of so many people.
Imagine being stuck indoors all day with young children in a flat with no outside space.
This idea worries me more than anything else about the current crisis. I hope so much that it doesn’t happen. I feel like it’s almost like a reaction in anger because not everyone will do what they’re told: like a smack.

Of course it’s not that easy! Most victims of domestic violence are unable to leave easily- it often takes several attempts to get away safely and permanently. And there is nowhere for people to escape to at the moment due to lockdown.
If domestic violence could have been solved by just locking people up it would have solved. And of course the prison service is desperate for some prisoners to be released early to reduce the coronavirus risk in prisons.
The charity Refuge has said today that domestic violence calls have greatly increased since lockdown.

They are not going to lock up many at the moment, too much risk of infection. One charming local last week slashed the tyres of 37 vehicles in town, appeared in court the next day and received 8 weeks suspended sentence.

I take back what I said about being nice to people- that person is definitely allowed to be called an idiot justasking! That is awful.
