Damn - it's the weekend and it's warm. AIBU to think this will lead to further restrictions

Because some people will be fed up of their house and will go to the park

Or the beach
Or congregate in large groups
Or take their car on long journeys to places of beauty

I think this weekend is going to see guidance severely broken because of the weather - and this will lead to a crackdown

Bring on April showers

I would imagine the papers are talking about a relax in restrictions because then people will be less likely to break them if they think that freedom is just around the corner.

I find it amazing that a few weeks ago everyone was shouting for lockdown and now that it’s happened they’re saying “but of course you can go to the park/the beach/have a picnic.”

If you bear in mind that the elderly and those who are shielded have been told to stay in for three months the idea that restrictions will be reduced in a matter of weeks for everyone else is completely unrealistic.

I predict that lockdown will be for three months at the very least. Most who are being furlowed are until the 31st of May, so clearly companies aren’t predicting a relax any time soon.

After that I think that things like large gatherings, concerts, exhibitions, sporting events will be cancelled until the end of the year at least.

My DP and I don’t live together in fact we live 120 miles apart because of his job etc. I haven’t seen him for three weeks now and don’t anticipate seeing him until September.

We are waiting to see how Sweden gets on. I think we'll know then if we've got it right.

There are think tanks again advising the government to go for herd immunity.

LastTrainEast · 04/04/2020 14:50

"Quite frightening how many people on here want the police to have more powers." Oh ffs if there's a pile up on the motorway police will stop you driving into it and dying. Is that a denial of your human rights? How about traffic lights? Letting a machine tell you when you can drive or not? And rules about what side of the road to drive on? I wouldn't stand for it if I were you.

AlternativePerspective · 04/04/2020 14:59

In theory herd immunity does have merit. After all this is partly why we vaccinate against certain conditions.

The problem is that because the virus is so new no-one has immunity to it, and the outcome of catching it is still too unpredictable. So by wanting people to catch the virus you are essentially sacrificing some for the good of others.

As more people do catch the virus though herd immunity will develop over time. But you can’t orchestrate that iyswim.

And before someone brings out the one case in the million that has been diagnosed where a person tested positive twice, A,that example has since been discredited, and B, with every illness there are anomalies where someone will catch them twice. E.g. chicken pox is generally something you only catch once. However sometimes it is possible to catch it twice, but those instances are in the minority.

‘ Quite frightening how many people on here want the police to have more powers’

I’d rather live an extremely restricted life for a few months than live no life at all.

Quite. I don't understand why some posters are refusing to see this. 709 deaths in the UH in the last 24 hours, so scary!

Soubriquet · 04/04/2020 15:13

Well I’ve seen quite a few dog walkers and a few cyclists where I am

Little village no shops.

I took my two dogs on the local football field for off lead running and no one else was there. Bliss

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 04/04/2020 15:14

I’m not concerned over police encoring their powers more

Unfortunately too many people are selfish or stupid and that is adding to the risk for everyone

Ponoka7 · 04/04/2020 15:14

"chicken pox is generally something you only catch once. However sometimes it is possible to catch it twice, but those instances are in the minority."

I have an autoimmune condition and have had chicken pox more than once, at one point i was given anti virals to have at home for when i get a bout of shingles, which when I'm run down is usual.

The people on the very vulnerable and up, are going to be the groups that could get it more than once and for us, that's a scary prospect, because second time around it might kill us.

However my generation, 50+ grew up without the guarantee that we'd live to 65+, through cancer and the conditions on the vulnerable group, we lived through HIV, those older grew up without reliable antibiotics/treatments/natal care, so the concept of living with a threat to life isn't new to us.

But I'd hope we don't consider it worth risking sacrificing more of our medical staff, especially those in their early 30's, as we just have.

AlternativePerspective · 04/04/2020 15:17

I actually think the amount of panic in the beginning which was expressed by some have made others disregard the actual risks.

There’s been a lot of talk of “if you kill someone,” and “there are going to be bodies lining the streets” and”you’re going to die slowly in a hospital bed then you won’t be so smug.”

People have switched off to this because it’s as extreme as thinking that the risks and rules don’t apply to them.

If people just took the middle ground option in realising just how serious this is but also that if they take these precautions for a few months then this too shall pass.

AlternativePerspective · 04/04/2020 15:20

@ Ponoka7 but this is why we encourage vaccination in order to protect people like yourself and others with immune deficiencies and who can’t be vaccinated. That’s why herd immunity is important in the long term, but we have to think about the here and now first.

I need a heart transplant, and when that happens I too will fall into the no immunity group. But actually even now I am at risk of serious complications, so while I would like to build immunity right now the risk of me doing so is too high, and the risk to those who are healthy is still too uncertain.

Wehttam · 04/04/2020 15:22

I would feel far safer if the police or army were enforcing lockdown. If nothing more it would shut up the idiots on here who think it’s perfectly fine to disobey the rules. The only way out of this mess is by total control over the populace, and I say bring it on NOW so we can get over this hideous situation sooner rather than later.

GinDrinker00 · 04/04/2020 15:24

As a person who had their neighbours partying in their garden last night with lots of people YANBU. Think they need to call the army in to enforce this more.

Ponoka7 · 04/04/2020 15:26

AlternativePerspective, i am 100% in favour of vaccination. I have any that are on offer and did for my children. A few years before I was born, there was polio still about. We saw the effects of that growing up.

alloutoffucks · 04/04/2020 15:31

I am always surprised by those who say more will die if people don't exercise. Nobody dies because they don't exercise for a month. So makes me wonder just how long this is going to go on for. A year?

HoffiCoffi13 · 04/04/2020 15:33

alloutoffucks many people rely on exercise for their mental health. Also, people won’t die from not exercising but it does lower the immune system cause other health issues.

alloutoffucks · 04/04/2020 15:37

Herd immunity means let most people get the virus and see who is left alive at the end. WHO criticised it as immoral.

SymphonyofShadows · 04/04/2020 15:49

Watford General has closed A&E and are dangerously close to running out of oxygen. Meanwhile the police have had to lock Cassiobury Park in Watford because of picnic fuckwits.

HairyFloppins · 04/04/2020 15:53

www.skylinewebcams.com/en/webcam/united-kingdom/england/brighton/brighton-pier.html

Quite a lot of folk strolling about in Brighton. Not too close together though.

There were quite a few people on the beach earlier. Will be interested to see it tomorrow.

AlternativePerspective · 04/04/2020 15:54

@ alloutoffucks I agree, that’s why I only said that herd immunity has merit in theory but that it obviously isn’t in practice.

AlternativePerspective · 04/04/2020 16:06

Well, press briefing now, and they’re saying categorically do not go to the beaches the parks or the lakes. Not “go there with your family,” “don’t go, at all

I think this is possibly likely, also to keep the bank holiday idiots away and off the streets as there are a few coming up.

So true

Damn - it's the weekend and it's warm. AIBU to think this will lead to further restrictions

@GinDrinker00

Did you challenge your stupid neighbours?
