Damn - it's the weekend and it's warm. AIBU to think this will lead to further restrictions

Because some people will be fed up of their house and will go to the park

Or the beach
Or congregate in large groups
Or take their car on long journeys to places of beauty

I think this weekend is going to see guidance severely broken because of the weather - and this will lead to a crackdown

Bring on April showers

I'm just a few miles from the coast, and as we have to go to Pets At Home today to get dog food (brand not available in supermarkets), am wondering if it would be very wrong to drive an extra mile and take a stroll along the beach.

I haven't been for a walk for 4 weeks (2 weeks SI followed by 2 weeks lockdown). A knee problem makes it incredibly painful to walk unless the ground is level, it's very hilly where we live, so I have to drive to get to anywhere I can walk more than about 50 yards.

LouisaJenny · 04/04/2020 08:56

I live near the beach and go for a run there most days for my exercise. It’s been pretty dead most days.

Our council has closed all of the carparks, so people cannot travel there.

That being said, I think I’ll avoid it this weekend, just in case.

MigginsMrs · 04/04/2020 08:57

I agree @longearedbat

chomalungma · 04/04/2020 08:58

would ordinarily take my Boris walk along the beach

Your Boris breath of fresh air Grin

Supermarkets will be packed with people doing “ essential” bbq shopping.
Don’t expect any meat, rolls or beer left,

SquitMcJit · 04/04/2020 09:01

I think bonfires should be temporarily banned in built-up areas during lockdown periods.

It’s so selfish to insist upon having one right now. Why does one person’s wish to have a nice fire/entertain the kids/dispose of garden or other waste beat other people’s need to breath/ have the windows open?

It’s really awful breathing in smoke when your chest is comprised- please stop having fires at the moment, it’s affecting other people.

Unihorn · 04/04/2020 09:03

Completely agree longearedbat.

frillyfarmer · 04/04/2020 09:03

I've just seen on Facebook a cycling group organising their first coastal cycle for this Sunday. Reassuringly there are over a thousand comments along the lines of "are you on glue".

We're farmers in a touristy area of the country and the unreasonable part of me wants to put a big concrete boulder at the end of the farm drive to stop shitcunts entitled individuals from riding/walking/cycling/driving into our yard for a jolly afternoon in the country.

BMW6 · 04/04/2020 09:07

frillyfarmer why wouldn't you? You are entitled to stop people coming onto YOUR yard!

Omashu · 04/04/2020 09:07

Yes I worry that you’re right OP. I knew it would be warm this weekend so we went to the beach for a walk yesterday when is was colder and windier as I didn’t want to contribute to high numbers at the beach this weekend!

tinytemper66 · 04/04/2020 09:08

I like being at home. Am usually so busy that this is a nice change. Admittedly I don't have young children and I have a decent size house and garden.
I only go out to deliver supplies to my mum and aunt, shopping and to give care to our son who lives about 8 miles away from us. Other than that I don't go out.
I am on a rota for work but have only been called once since schools closed.
I live near a beach which I used to visit a few times a week but I used to take the car so now I don't go.

TheoriginalLEM · 04/04/2020 09:13

@frillyfarmer please do and attach a big poster asking them to stay home FUCK OFF.

@LouisaJenny I'm sorry about your knee but please don't, you will be part of the problem. If everyone JUST did that......

Luc1nda · 04/04/2020 09:15

I think that they are relying on it.

Lots of photos of people congregating, increased death rate (unrelated to the weekend) and then they have a reason for the (required) stronger restrictions.

chomalungma · 04/04/2020 09:19

ots of photos of people congregating, increased death rate (unrelated to the weekend) and then they have a reason for the (required) stronger restrictions

Probably - they won't show images of no one being out and staying at home following the rules. Because that's not a good story for them.

Even people with the best will in the world will mistakenly think that they are the only people who might fancy a quiet picnic in that park....along with another 5000 families

heartheal · 04/04/2020 09:22

I’ll be surprised if you are right. I think most people have got it. I walk daily in local country side and it’s so quiet the rabbits have taken over the closed car park.

I had to attend hospital earlier this week and the roads were very quiet. No one around.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 04/04/2020 09:24

Roads have been busier these last few days and definitely more people out and about yesterday (I was working)

I think many will take the chance as they believe it’s only them that have had this thought to go somewhere secluded

We stuck in a flat shall for a walk later but it’s not fun

HoffiCoffi13 · 04/04/2020 09:26

Like others have said, we don’t need tighter restrictions, we just need the ones we’ve got enforcing. Police will know where the ‘danger’ spots are, and they have the power to disperse groups, so that needs to be done.
Most people I know have ‘got it’ by now. I do think there will be more people out walking, but that’s understandable really. As long as they observe the rules then it’s fine.
We’ll be in the garden for the weekend. I feel sorry for my mum who doesn’t have a garden, especially as she’s still working (NHS) but what can you do?

Wonderbag · 04/04/2020 09:27

It will be interesting. They’re onto it as they know what the British people are like.
Matt Hancock said last night about it being an instruction, not a request.
It is on the front page of the newspapers and the police are very visible on social media saying about it.
I think everyone will be doing one little harmless thing, like popping to the garage for bbq briquettes etc but all those everyones can make a big problem.

Ilovemypantry · 04/04/2020 09:27

@longearedbat

What would you rather have....police having the power to stop people being stupid or stupid people having the power to continue spreading the virus?

Kastanien · 04/04/2020 09:29

A friend in the police said that his force were considering closing slip roads to motorways and quizzing drivers where they were going before letting them on.

Presumably lorries delivering food to supermarkets would be exempt from this? Otherwise their journey would take all day.

welldonejean · 04/04/2020 09:32

I’ll live by the beach so will probably be walking there but at a quieter time today.
The local police though are going to be at the train station to turn away people travelling to come here who aren’t local and patrolling the sea front, sea front parking again trying to catch anyone who’s driven here.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 04/04/2020 09:36

You can go to a park or a beach- just not in groups, just not mixing households and not to have picnics.
I fully intend on taking my 2yr old to the park

avocadotofu · 04/04/2020 09:37

I was thinking the same thing, I'm really hoping we're wrong though

Unihorn · 04/04/2020 09:37

So many people on my Facebook claiming the roads have been much busier this week because "idiots are ignoring lockdown." More like it was payday this week and people are having to complete large shops. People seem to have lost all common sense and turned into the fucking Stasi.
