Damn - it's the weekend and it's warm. AIBU to think this will lead to further restrictions

Because some people will be fed up of their house and will go to the park

Or the beach
Or congregate in large groups
Or take their car on long journeys to places of beauty

I think this weekend is going to see guidance severely broken because of the weather - and this will lead to a crackdown

Bring on April showers

But you can do the top two.
Some people live walking distance to parks and the government hasn't closed parks, so if you are with just your household you can walk around a park.

Likewise lots of people are walking distance to the beach and are allowed to walk on the beaches.

The other two shouldn't be happening of course. But the top two are not necessarily 'breaking the rules.'

YABU. If we are stuck in the garden, then I want a bit of sun

Missing the point of the AIBU....

And on Monday, out came the restrictions. It's not even been a week of them. It feels like ages

It’s been nearly 2 weeks.

I am a bit surprised they haven't been shut.

OTOH - they are lovely places to walk around and see grass and nature

OTOH - they are very tempting places for groups to gather and sit down.

Our parks in the city have been closed.

Hopefully there will be lots of nice days as Spring is here

Has it?

Time is a bit of a blur at the moment

Closing the motorways seems like a good idea

But what about people who need to use the motorway for essential journeys.

I will be going in the car on a motorway for the first time in three weeks on Thursday. Dh, BiL and MIL have been on them more recent.

FIL has just died. We need the motorway open. They needed to see him. They needed to travel to their home to sort paperwork. Next week we need to go to the funeral.

Last thing we need is motorways shut and having to be quizzed about our motives in days when we really don't need that I reference.

The motorways are actually really really quiet. Dh and BIL (who has to travel a long way) have never seen them so quiet ever.

I'm delighted to see the sun, I'm declaring:

**National Power Washer Day.

Enjoy yourselves safely everyone!

Aragog · 04/04/2020 08:41

The beach near my parents isn't closed. So they take their exercise walks on the beach. They did before and still do. They say they are deserted. I've seen the videos of the empty beach they've taken. So it seems people aren't using it as an excuse to sit down and picnic, etc.

AStarSoBright · 04/04/2020 08:42

Where I live all of the roads around the seafront are closed and have been since yesterday. Hopefully that will stop enough people to make a difference.

PineappleDanish · 04/04/2020 08:44

But it's a balance, isn't it? You're always going to get the tiny percentage of people who think it's OK to do everything they're told not to, or who deliberately set out to defy the police/government. Changing restrictions isn't going to stop them acting like numpties.

But it will affect the overwhelming majority of us who are doing as we're told, socially distancing, and only leaving the house for essentials, or a daily walk well away from others.

HugeAckmansWife · 04/04/2020 08:46

I have and will continue to use the motorway to collect and deliver my children from / to their father, as is allowed for in the legislation. Its a long way; without motorways I will have to take much much longer, stop for fuel more, take breaks, use services etc. There are legitimate reasons for being on the roads.. I have no problem with the police stopping and asking people and turning around those without a good reason but I do have an issue with imposing more restrictions due a small minority who are not following the existing ones.

OldUnit · 04/04/2020 08:46

Going against the grain, I actually think people will be much better behaved this weekend, after all is said and done.

PineappleDanish · 04/04/2020 08:47

Closing the motorways seems like a good idea

No it doesn't. People still need to make essential journeys and to get to work, delivery drivers need to get around, lorries need to deliver to supermarkets....

Silly idea.

Winesalot · 04/04/2020 08:47

I think this weekend will result in tighter lockdown.

For the past few days I have seen more people out who simply are ignoring the 2 m rule. The people holding hands and walking side by side meaning there is no room on a wide path. The families out but not making way for people. The dogs off leash and running around to people. I stepped out onto the road to avoid two separate groups of young people yesterday and one group all had gloves and face masks. it was a wide footpath but they refuse to walk in single file when others come.

No. If the past two days have been an indication in this part of London, those stricter lockdown measures will have to come in. People just don’t seem to understand how important not going out unless you are with family members is and cannot judge 2 m.

bmbonanza · 04/04/2020 08:48

Those who follow it will follow it, those who see themselves as exempt wont. 'Words of advice' or a £30 fine will do nothing at all. Need on the spot fines of £1,000 or confiscate items to the value of - like phones - from those who are not complying.

jasjas1973 · 04/04/2020 08:50

For most people, W/E's are no longer the "look forward too" thing they used to be, many not working, kids stuck at home, Wednesday may as well be Sunday!!! and all the attractions/shops etc inc car parks are now closed at these tourist destinations

Might be more people at the local park but i am hoping the vast majority stay local.

MigginsMrs · 04/04/2020 08:51

Doesn’t it @chomalungma. Yeah he announced it 2 weeks ago on Monday. It’s like the period between Christmas and New Year but with fewer chocolate oranges.

Almahart · 04/04/2020 08:52

I agree with you OP. I think the parks in London will be closed next week. I desperately hope not, we have a small garden but I will miss having space to be in and I just can’t imagine what it will be like for people with no outside space at all.

I think more people will be “out exercising”

Sallycinammonbangsthedruminthe · 04/04/2020 08:53

All we can do is hope that people will listen and stay at home,I get it is soul destroying really I do but I think there is a will to get this virus under control so fingers crossed. We will be at home although I would so love to jump in the car and go to the beach with my husband and daughter ,common sense tells me this is selfish and wrong.I hope the vast majority of people would think the same. This is way too serious to top our wants at the moment.Plus the sooner we all behave the quicker it will be under some sort of control and normal life can be reasonably resumed...

longearedbat · 04/04/2020 08:54

Quite frightening how many people on here want the police to have more powers. On the spot fines of £1000? Shut the motorways? Bloody hell!
The police have been given quite enough power in the circumstances, but hey, the mumsnet stasi wants more and won't be happy until everyone is cowering at the back of a wardrobe living on dust.

Soubriquet · 04/04/2020 08:55

I bet some people will go to the beach/parks whatever with the excuse of “they won’t touch anything”

The police in my area have all done photos from local tourist spots to say everything is closed, stay home

TheoriginalLEM · 04/04/2020 08:55

I live in a seaside town that was over run with Londoners the last weekend before lockdown. I would ordinarily take my Boris walk along the beach but we will be staying home because we know the place will be fucking swarming- i fear you are right OP .

People think the rules don't apply to them
