Damn - it's the weekend and it's warm. AIBU to think this will lead to further restrictions

Because some people will be fed up of their house and will go to the park

Or the beach
Or congregate in large groups
Or take their car on long journeys to places of beauty

I think this weekend is going to see guidance severely broken because of the weather - and this will lead to a crackdown

Bring on April showers

I live at the seaside. I can hear the traffic at the moment going past my house (on a main road). It's pretty constant; you would not know we were supposed to be in lockdown.

chomalungma · 04/04/2020 10:32

I can see congestion on one of the roads to the coast near me on the Traffic planner

I guess it's the police doing checks. It's where I would mount them if I were the police.

The weather here isn't much different to what's been forecast the past two weeks. I will assume the south east is due hot weather if it's being broadcast as national news.

Trajectoryoflife · 04/04/2020 10:34

Our beaches are being patrolled at the moment by RNLI and police. I don’t like it (as a local who misses the beach) but it is helping.

A few weekends ago our local beach was packed and it was quite worrying

FazakAli · 04/04/2020 10:35

I took my kids out for a walk yesterday and made sure we kept to the rules etc. People kept walking past us & not maintaining social distance. They really don't care so if it wasn't for the strain these idiots will put the NHS under, I don't see why we should.

RoryGillmoresEvilTwin · 04/04/2020 10:39

I dread lovely days now. We don't have a garden and I have an 8 year old boy who desperately wants to get out and about. My heart sinks when I see the sun shinning now.

chomalungma · 04/04/2020 10:40

Forecast of 20C tomorrow.

If you live next to a park or a beach or a woods you can use it firbyour daily exercise OP.

AlternativePerspective · 04/04/2020 10:47

I think a lot of people already aren’t observing social distancing rules.

The roads are busy, people are going for walks in big family groups, towns etc are busy. My DS went into town the other day to pick up my prescription and he said that town was far busier than it usually is.

I have a family member who believes that these measures are for London only and has been merrily going out here there and everywhere even though she never used to go out before all this started. Hmm.

Not sure about issuing fines, they should just close the parks and the beaches. A lot of spots are already closing their carparks to stop people driving there.

SuperlativeScrubs · 04/04/2020 10:50

It irritates me that, for the first time in years, it is going to be sunny and warm on my Birthday and I can't go out and enjoy it. It is always sunny, but cold. This year it's actually going to be warm enough to be ouside!

Sad
BlueEyedPersephone · 04/04/2020 10:51

Its not draconian it's the law

Please stay home...........the rules are really simple! Anyone who thinks it's over the top is stupid

A law passed to help stop the spread of the coronavirus means nobody can leave their home "without reasonable excuse". Reasonable excuses include:
â–  Shopping for basic necessities such as food or medicine
â–  To take exercise (the guidelines suggest once a day, and in Wales that is the law)
â–  Seeking medical assistance, or to avoid injury or illness or to escape a risk of harm
â–  Providing care or assistance to a vulnerable person, providing emergency assistance, or donating blood
â–  Travelling to work or to carry out voluntary services, where it's not possible to do these from home
â–  Attending the funeral of a member of your household, or a close family member (or in some circumstances, a friend)
â–  Fulfilling legal obligations, such as attending court, satisfying bail requirements or participating in legal proceedings
â–  Accessing critical public services including childcare or education, social services, or victim support
â–  Allowing children of separated parents to move between both households
â–  Moving house where reasonably necessary
When people catch this and die it can happen very quickly and it is a nasty death, anyone who is not getting the message is an idiot.

BlueMoon1103 · 04/04/2020 10:53

People should be able to go out and enjoy the sun as much as they want as long as they go in household groups and social distance. Don’t see the harm in a day in the sun (especially as Vitamin D is desirable right now and the sun is the best source of this) as long as they’re being sensible.

Totopoly · 04/04/2020 10:54

Cold and rainy here. Hope that cheers some people up.

WitsEnding · 04/04/2020 10:56

In my SW city everyone appears to be following the rules and politely observing social distancing. I do feel intimidated by some of the online mob frothing at the mouth over anyone who steps outdoors, and have thus been taking my solitary walks in the 'nicer' of my local districts.

Police are checking traffic and seem to have caught some of the long-distance drug couriers on their travels.

eaglejulesk · 04/04/2020 10:57

You are probably right. Some people in NZ have been out swimming and surfing on lovely days (until the police see them!)

cologne4711 · 04/04/2020 10:58

Family groups are allowed, but they should go single file when people are coming towards them.

But if you're an entitled idiot at the best of times, you're not going to change now, are you, and I have lost count of the number of times parents with their buggies have expected me to walk or run in the gutter at school run time. The difference now is the roads are empty enough to be able to run or walk in the road.

They don't need to do like they have in Spain or even in Ireland with the 2k rule. Enforce the rules we have and say that dogs must be on short leads at all times. If people walk single file and keep their dogs (and kids) close by, there won't be a problem.

StrawberryJam200 · 04/04/2020 10:58

I did wonder if HM The Queen broadcasting to the nation on Sunday evening was planned to coincide with a more stringent lockdown.

SpokeTooSoon · 04/04/2020 10:58

Why can’t you take him out?

AlternativePerspective · 04/04/2020 11:00

Actually the rule was no more than two people out at a time iirc.

Added to which, it’s all very well to say that people should be allowed to go out to the park, the beach etc, but every family will think that they as a family have the right to go out to wherever they want and then that leads to hundreds of people being in one area.

How many people who rock up to the beach only to see 500 people there already will turn around and go home?

SkiingIsHeaven · 04/04/2020 11:00

We had 4 teenage boys in the park the other night. Three were sitting on a bench together side by side. They were sharing a spliff. It was pitch black and we live in a small village with no police. There is no hope for some of us.

bigbluebus · 04/04/2020 11:06

I went out to the supermarket in my local town at about 4pm yesterday. There's a short stretch of dual carriageway where to main A roads merge and is a busy route out to the North Wales coast. I passed 5 police cars in the space of 1 mile - some clearly visible and some tucked in ready to pounce no doubt on any motorhomes, caravans, car loads of people. Last weekend the NWales police were stopping cars just over the border into Wales. Anyone stupid enough to decide to head to the coast around here won't be getting very far.

Sunshineafterrain24 · 04/04/2020 11:08

There are a lot of people wrongly assuming that people won't keep to the rules. I believe they will.
Everyone is too scared to go beyond their back garden.

ladylunchalot · 04/04/2020 11:09

Actually quite glad it's freezing cold as usual in Scotland, should keep the ejits indoors.

ladylunchalot · 04/04/2020 11:11

Still wearing layers and my winter jacket, bloody baltic as usual in Scotland.

LaneBoy · 04/04/2020 11:16

it’s like the period between Christmas and New Year but with fewer chocolate oranges :o love that

I think you’re right OP, I really wish you weren’t though.

We are lucky to live very near a big park. It’s been pretty quiet for the most part when we’ve been for walks, but when DH was there on sunnier days he did say it was much busier. He’s seen police around too attempting to break up gatherings. When I’ve been I’ve only seen people walking, but I think if it’s really hot that will change again. I’m hoping to get out for our walk really early tomorrow so we can avoid any crowds.
