708 deaths in 24 hours.

lubeybooby · 04/04/2020 14:04

@Quartz2208 that was when China started recording anyone with a temp or cough as having CV before thee test results were back. They then changed it again back to waiting for test results.

Skittlesss · 04/04/2020 14:13

As of 9am 4 April, a total of 183,190 people have been tested of which 41,903 tested positive.

As of 5pm on 3 April, of those hospitalised in the UK who tested positive for coronavirus, 4,313 have sadly died.

pissedoffretailworker · 04/04/2020 14:15

We are hitting massive numbers of deaths more quickly than Italy did now aren't we? How scary 😢

Eeyoresstickhouse · 04/04/2020 14:17

We are almost 1,000 deaths ahead of italy at the same point. This is so frightening. I still don't think the peak will be next weekend either.

refraction · 04/04/2020 14:56

How many from the governments start point at 50 not 10?

Quartz2208 · 04/04/2020 14:58

Also how accurate at the dating points for when we had 10 deaths

www.theguardian.com/world/2020/apr/02/coronavirus-took-hold-in-uk-earlier-than-thought-data-reveals

I am not sure we can accurately date how far behind Italy we are in terms of the 10 deaths because I dont think we are seeing accurate data

We just need to hope that like Italy and Spain we can keep it under 1000 a day and then let it drop

sadpapercourtesan · 04/04/2020 15:02

We're grasping at smoke trying to make any meaningful predictions from the evidence we have. We can't trust the new case figures because they're capped by testing capacity and ridiculously narrow testing criteria. We can't trust the death figures, because they only include the confirmed-in-hospital cases. 13 people died in the last week in ONE care home in Scotland. How many more deaths in the community/people who didn't qualify for testing in time?

We're in the dark.

lakequeen · 04/04/2020 15:02

According to the guardian the youngest reported death was a five year old ☹️

lakequeen · 04/04/2020 15:03

'Patients were aged between five years and 104 years old. 40 of the 637 patients (aged between 48 and 93 years old) had no known underlying health condition.'

Bornfreebutincovidchains · 04/04/2020 15:18

So can anyone say whether we already flattening the peak!

To me it seems like the graph is soaring up? What happened to the sir Patrick valance and his flattening the peak graph?

MarshaBradyo · 04/04/2020 15:19

Born I think we need to count for more lag to occur. So 2 to 3 weeks from lockdown.

MarshaBradyo · 04/04/2020 15:21

A five year old that’s awful. Are we seeing worse stats than elsewhere? Age that is.

EducatingArti · 04/04/2020 15:23

I think the Watford A and E closure might be because the hospital supply of oxygen can't cope with any more patients needing it.

MurrayTheMonk · 04/04/2020 15:36

708... awful :(

MurrayTheMonk · 04/04/2020 15:37

I wonder if they will send patients to the nightingale instead of Watford then.

theskyispurple · 04/04/2020 15:40

@MurrayTheMonk is it actually staffed and taking patients yet? I thought that despite it being opened that it wasn't ready for patients til mid next week?

EmMac7 · 04/04/2020 15:49

@sadpapercourtesan

Well said. We’re flying blind. At least Boris and Co seemto have realised that and are supposedly trying to increase testing. But for now, hospital admissions are our best data. Unfortunately PHE don’t release those to the public.

PristineCondition · 04/04/2020 15:50

A five year old Sad

Chersfrozenface · 04/04/2020 15:52

NHS Nightingale London has been ready since yesterday (Friday) but it was at that time expected that it would not be in use until next week, as London hospitals were currently managing OK.

peridito · 04/04/2020 16:02

@TheCanterburyWhales I think this has ages on the Diamond Princess cruise ship .

Afternoon all.

Hoping you can talk me down a little.

Have had a sore throat since yesterday evening.

I did a food shop Tuesday but my hand/packaging hygiene was immaculate. (Trolley wiped. Car wiped. Hands sanitised before, after, didn't touch face. Washed hands, purchases, kitchen and hands again when in) and social distancing measures were good in there.

Chances are my throat is unrelated - right? What else could it be?

CrunchyCarrot · 04/04/2020 16:13

No matter which way you look at it, the numbers aren't good. 708 deaths today and a new death total of 4313.

Thunderpunt · 04/04/2020 16:15

Can anyone help me understand the US figures?

Yesterday 32000 new cases and 1321 deaths, today c1700 new cases and 51 deaths. Do they add to their daily totals throughout the day?

Or have I missed some vital info as to why yesterday was so high compared to today (or vice versa) ?

EmMac7 · 04/04/2020 16:17

@RobynSH

Do you have garden, spent time outdoors? If so hay fever is a possibility. Lots of pollen in the air.
