@BiologyIsReal I totally agree with you.

I am glad people are getting the free food. However don't thank the government - thank those of us who pay thousands in income tax and will have massive tax hikes next year to pay for it even though we are getting nothing now in terms of support.

Thank you, oh kind and generous @xenia, for doing what you are legally obliged to do by giving us a small part of your mighty wealth. Us lowly poor folk would kiss your feet as you walked by if it wouldn't mean putting your benevolent self at risk from the virus.

Xenia I'm sure you didn't mean to make yourself look like a begrudging, self centred prick

And yet once again she manages it anyway.

@1forsorrow

I hope your parents are getting some help. That sounds such a difficult thing to cope with.

I do think it is great that people are being helped, the only thing that occurs to me is the people getting the boxes are presumably the ones who can get a delivery slot from Sainsburys but people like VanGoghsDog's parents are probably missing out on both.

Thank you. Dad has no appetite really anyway. Three weekends ago we were those terrible people who helped mum stock up with pasta and pasta sauce. A bit of extra cereal and some long life milk (to her horror). Before dad came out of hospital.

Her local shop is bringing some daily essentials like bread and milk and the golf club is bringing dinner, free, twice a week. Which is hilarious because my parents could not be more disdainful about golf if they tried!

I'm three hours away. I check in with her every day to ensure they're OK. I am a bit surprised they are not on the shielding list but I don't think they would have registered for the free box anyway. They are lucky to live in a small town where there seems to be plenty of support. And I follow the town Facebook page and send my mum any info she might find useful - like Saturday her corner shop posted that they had too much bread, so I texted that to mum and she could go there Sunday (she can just walk there and back, but can't carry much) and she said they'd told her on the phone they couldn't get her any bread until Tuesday, which was presumably before they realised they weren't going to sell all of Saturdays bread.

I don't think she would manage to register on the Sainsbury's site though.

Glad your parents are getting some help. It is worrying for everyone at the moment but I think vulnerable elderly relatives along way away if really hard. I hope everything goes well for you and them.

It's obviously a gift.
