People are unbelievable. God help any of the complainers for if you ever need help in life. Remember the time where you wanted to deny the most at risk food...

I hope you won't be accepting a hospital bed if you need one.

SunshineCake · 30/03/2020 14:23

For fucks sake, some people should be ashamed of themselves. You run this fucking thing if you think you can do better.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 30/03/2020 14:26

If it's only sufficient food for a week and isnt checked for allergies etc what do you do if you have an allergy and cant eat some? Last week, week before?, it was explained.... you get this box and, as time goes on and communications become quicker, they can be modifie. They are free, initially, but may, again as time goes by and needs change, can be added to, paid for etc.

This is a first response to give those at most risk, those who received the shileding letters, some support.

The lists come from the NHS database, incl GPs info.

BraveLittleDragon · 30/03/2020 14:29

@CuriousaboutSamphire - I know - my responses are to those who are saying allergies should not be taken into account.

As I said in one of my first posts I thought it was this scheme this specifically asked about allergies - they desperately do need to be taken into account for those that have them.

PestymcPestFace · 30/03/2020 14:30

Lots of councils are offering these boxes to the old and frail also people quarantining.

Get onto facebook, search covid support , your town, your parents town, great aunt Maud's town and ask for help, if needed.

If you can volunteer, please do.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 30/03/2020 14:30

And yes, Total Produce and other suppliers have been sending out fruit and veg boxes for a couple of weeks. Ours is coordinated by a local pub, only for the vulnerable at £20 a box, delivered.

Our butcher, baker and the fishman now add to those boxes on request and our florist tends to add a bloom or two to each box!

Community Hubs are also doing a cracking job, and are probably the people who delivered the government boxes.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 30/03/2020 14:31

Sorry Brave I wasn't maligning your post, just adding some detail. I should have been more clear!

DarkDarkNight · 30/03/2020 14:31

That’s good BraveLittleDragon hopefully somebody who needs help will be on at least one list.

ifonly4 · 30/03/2020 14:31

How do you apply?

Also, would my elderly neighbour with COPD qualify (ambulance is called out to her approx eight times in the last year)?

Unfortunately, she has a miserable g.t of a husband whose very selfish, so she's still out doing the shopping. I'd do it for her, but won't extend to bringing back many bottles of whiskey and cans for him every time (which fill up a whole wheelie bin every two weeks!, so she has to do it) - he's very capable though.

Beautiful3 · 30/03/2020 14:31

Wow that's good. I hope my parents get one as they're both disabled.

TurquoiseDress · 30/03/2020 14:31

Wow this is amazing, this must have taken massive amounts of organisation, planning & manpower to put it all together!

The negative comments are Hmm

PestymcPestFace · 30/03/2020 14:34

For fucks sake, some people should be ashamed of themselves. You run this fucking thing if you think you can do better.

Well said sunshine , I really despair of some people, there are not enough volunteers yet.

starsparkle08 · 30/03/2020 14:39

It says on the letter a person from the household registered ?

alloutoffucks · 30/03/2020 14:45

@ifonly4 Some people with COPD qualify, it depends how severe it is. British Lung Foundation website explain more.

adaline · 30/03/2020 14:46

Christ, the negativity on here is unbelievable at times.

mochojoes · 30/03/2020 14:46

I think it's fantastic, one of my family received one. They had a call first to check if there was any allergies.

Tootletum · 30/03/2020 14:47

Bloody hell @ifonly4 I think you should just register on your neighbour's behalf that's awful! No idea how you register but probably Google it or phone the council .

mochojoes · 30/03/2020 14:48

If it helps I registered for said family member through the gov website, (they had received a letter)

mochojoes · 30/03/2020 14:50

oh & I didn't realise it was for a care package, I was trying to sort a Sainsburys shop for them.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 30/03/2020 14:52

Brilliant!

I'm so glad that you are getting something - at least you can relax a little. It may just be basics, but believe me, some people would give their eye teeth to be assured of getting basics.

1forsorrow · 30/03/2020 14:52

VanGoghsDog I hope your parents are getting some help. That sounds such a difficult thing to cope with.

I do think it is great that people are being helped, the only thing that occurs to me is the people getting the boxes are presumably the ones who can get a delivery slot from Sainsburys but people like VanGoghsDog's parents are probably missing out on both.

It must be a nightmare trying to work out who gets help and inevitably some very needy people are likely to miss out.

mochojoes · 30/03/2020 14:54

@1forsorrow I cannot get any kind of online delivery slot for my mum

alloutoffucks · 30/03/2020 14:57

@1forsorrow No when you register you are asked what kind of help you want. This first week there may be some overlap, but as they iron it out those who just want a delivery slot should get that and no food parcel. That is what I want.

1forsorrow · 30/03/2020 14:58

mochojoes have you tried Morrisons, their boxes are £35 and contain £30 worth of food. They were fully booked for a few days but opened up again today. I have one coming today and another for next week. Was a relief to get one, DH is mid 70s diabetic and disabled so we are self isolating for 12 weeks hopefully, if I have to go out I will but don't want to bring infection home to him. If it helps I will post what is in mine when it arrives. Due anytime now.

mochojoes · 30/03/2020 14:58

@alloutoffucks was that on the gov site? I didn't see that option.
