I’d perhaps just not eat the stuff I was allergic to

don't try to bring common sense in the discussion, you're going to get shouted at!

JaneEyre7 · 30/03/2020 12:54

I'm hoping my Dad will qualify as he's got rheumatoid arthritis and has to take methotrexate. He's also diabetic, and really struggling to get food locally.

What a fantastic scheme.

opticaldelusion · 30/03/2020 12:55

If it's only sufficient food for a week and isnt checked for allergies etc what do you do if you have an allergy and cant eat some?

You go on to social media and moan that in a time of global crisis the government has neglected to deliver you a tailor-made solution. Then you crawl up your own fucking arse and hopefully stay there.

Dyrne · 30/03/2020 12:55

BiBiBirdie I think this is the one you actually have to register for on the government website. Have you done that yet? They list out the conditions that qualify (mostly autoimmune).

1forsorrow · 30/03/2020 12:56

My husband has high rate care DLA but we aren't entitled. Not sure who qualifies. I've ordered a Morrisons box, it is supposed to be enough for 2 for a week and I've got another one coming next week. We don't have allergies so should be OK.

Gin96 · 30/03/2020 12:57

Wow isn’t our country wonderful, we are so lucky to live here, you just have to ignore all the moaning Minnie’s 😊

Dyrne · 30/03/2020 12:58

www.gov.uk/coronavirus-extremely-vulnerable

The list of conditions are:

What do we mean by extremely vulnerable?
People falling into this extremely vulnerable group include:

Solid organ transplant recipients.
People with specific cancers:
people with cancer who are undergoing active chemotherapy or radical radiotherapy for lung cancer
people with cancers of the blood or bone marrow such as leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma who are at any stage of treatment
people having immunotherapy or other continuing antibody treatments for cancer
people having other targeted cancer treatments which can affect the immune system, such as protein kinase inhibitors or PARP inhibitors
people who have had bone marrow or stem cell transplants in the last 6 months, or who are still taking immunosuppression drugs
People with severe respiratory conditions including all cystic fibrosis, severe asthma and severe COPD.
People with rare diseases and inborn errors of metabolism that significantly increase the risk of infections (such as SCID, homozygous sickle cell).
People on immunosuppression therapies sufficient to significantly increase risk of infection.
Women who are pregnant with significant heart disease, congenital or acquired.

Haveitheright · 30/03/2020 12:58

son is extremely high risk but we had no idea this was coming

Are you saying you didn’t register as it says at the beginning of the letter? Is it possible a poor vulnerable neighbour is expecting the delivery and it’s been delivered to the wrong address? Just wondering as we have a shielded person at our address who is extremely high risk but I’m not expecting a delivery as we haven’t registered the need for this.

Escapeistheonlyoption · 30/03/2020 13:00

did you register on the government website after you got the letter?

Floralnomad · 30/03/2020 13:01

I thought you were only getting the parcels if you registered for them , if you have family / neighbours / friends who can shop for you then that’s what you should be doing so that the help gets to those who are really in need of it .

Selfsettling3 · 30/03/2020 13:07

@Kraejka I wish my kids allergies would disappear.

My husband has registered as a very vulnerable person, he is shielding but at the moment we are managing with limited food deliveries. I hope ASDA or TESCO will start prioritising very vulnerable online customers.

Lily193 · 30/03/2020 13:10

What a fantastic scheme.

Completely agree. We are all very lucky to live in the UK, it's just a pity some people don't realise it.

NettleTea · 30/03/2020 13:12

yes, my daughter got one today as well, we are extremely grateful for any help and have already arranged to pass on some of the things that she doesnt like to some other vulnerable people

Apolloanddaphne · 30/03/2020 13:13

That is fantastic.

Frankiecandle · 30/03/2020 13:16

What was in it?

Escapeistheonlyoption · 30/03/2020 13:17

Did those who have received them register on the website or were they random? Only asking as my DH has had a letter- we dont need a package and I would like to try and divert it if it is arriving automatically

Shinesweetfreedom · 30/03/2020 13:18

Got mine this morning.
I am on the 12 week isolation, but got 16 year old to feed too.
I am very very grateful.
I want to thank the government department or someone, but I guess they have more pressing things than my thanks.
I am really really grateful.

NettleTea · 30/03/2020 13:18

and also they said that in the beginning the food would just be a generic box and might not suit everyone. HOWEVER they will over time be able to tailor them more to each particular persons requirement.
I think its amazing that after a week they have already done this.
and last week I had a call from both MIL and FIL's social workers respectively asking if they could get essentials so they are following up people who have been flagged but who may not have been able to go online and register.

Im absolutely gobsmacked at the moaning.

SirVixofVixHall · 30/03/2020 13:18

Wotnopasta
Coeliacs are also at higher risk, ( in case you haven’t seen the info) . Around a third of people with Coeliac disease have spleen disfunction without knowing, that puts them at greater risk. There is a bit on this on the Coeliac UK website. As you can’t know if you are in that third or not, you need to assume you are.
Hope that helps .

Shinesweetfreedom · 30/03/2020 13:19

@Escapeistheonlyoption

NettleTea · 30/03/2020 13:21

WeAllHaveWings · 30/03/2020 13:21

This is brillant.

@SuperLoudPoppingAction It says right there in the letter what to do if you have allergies or cant eat any of the food due to religious reasons.

motherindenial · 30/03/2020 13:22

Yes, great.

LovesNettles · 30/03/2020 13:23

A M A Z I N G
We need to all be counting our lucky stars right now that we are in a country with a national health service, and a leader that may look a little frazzled, but is listening to the experts and not making it up as he goes along. The government is going to make mistakes and not get it 100% perfect, but there are literally billions of people around the world who wish they were in our shoes right now. Seriously counting my blessings to be here in the UK.

NettleTea · 30/03/2020 13:24

are people with coeliac disease on the list? Sorry, not being goady, just wasking

I forgot the tin of peace slices too
