@SirVixofVixHall I think you may have misread - here is the appropriate paragraph on Coeliac UK's website:

The government has also provided advice on shielding for people defined as extremely vulnerable from COVID-19. People with coeliac disease (including those who have problems with their spleen) who have no other health conditions do not fall into this category. If you fall into this category you should receive a letter by Sunday 29 March 2020. The Government website has more

FFS @SuperLoudPoppingAction are you one of these people on the thread from yesterday who was worried that the children of NHS staff who were being looked after in schools were getting an unfair advantage? Because your response on this thread is equally as mean spirited. You sound really bitter.

Xenia · 30/03/2020 13:26

I am glad people are getting the free food. However don't thank the government - thank those of us who pay thousands in income tax and will have massive tax hikes next year to pay for it even though we are getting nothing now in terms of support.

fivesecondrule · 30/03/2020 13:26

This is wonderful. We registered for my grandad who is undergoing cancer treatment- I really hope he gets one as I know he's panicking.

Dyrne · 30/03/2020 13:26

Yes there’s a difference between “vulnerable and should self-isolate” and “extremely vulnerable and qualifies for a food box”.

WellThisIsABitShiteIsntIt · 30/03/2020 13:27

That’s good to hear that it’s up and running.

I’d like a tin of sliced peace too 😊

RishiSunakFanClub · 30/03/2020 13:29

That is fantastic - what a brilliant system.

For some people Jesus Christ could come down to earth and hand them a food parcel and they would find something to whine about.

WotnoPasta · 30/03/2020 13:30

@SirVixofVixHall I did see that. Only DD is the coeliac but it seems very rare in children. She’s not going out anyway anywhere.

minimummum · 30/03/2020 13:30

How lovely.

londonrach · 30/03/2020 13:30

Wow. What amazing idea. Love this. We so lucky to live in the uk

Kraejka · 30/03/2020 13:31

@Selfsettling3
I stated that some people have genuine allergies like your children.
I was talking about the people who have supposed allergies, not diagnosed by a doctor, not really an allergy - an intolerance perhaps at most.
There are plenty of fad-eaters around claiming to have allergies when they don't. I was wondering if these people's allergies will disappear when they have no choice.

WellThisIsABitShiteIsntIt · 30/03/2020 13:31

Xenia 🤦🏻‍♀️ No one else but you would comment like that. 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣

GinnyStrupac · 30/03/2020 13:31

To those in receipt, please ignore the couple of mean-spirited pps - their sort pop up on every thread. Hmm

JayDot500 · 30/03/2020 13:32

We got ours on Friday, without warning. Totally impressed and will clap for our government for making it happen.

NettleTea · 30/03/2020 13:32

This pack is ONLY for those identified as extremely vulnerable and who need shielding.
Im sure if something as major as coeliac disease was on the list they would have sent out a box of gluten free stuff, as it would have been a bit pointless otherwise.
Its for people who received the letter and the text, and who registered on the site to say they had no support to get food and medicines.

In a family setting where no person NEEDS to leave the house, and to give the shielded person more freedom it is OK for the whole family to be in isolation, which means that they cannot go to the shops and need deliveries, so then they would fall into that category.

If you DONT want the support package, you simply do not register for it

Escapeistheonlyoption · 30/03/2020 13:33

I had registered on the website

Thanks- we don't have any food shortage and I didn't want to take a box that could have gone to others.

It is a very random food collection. I wonder where they sourced that much corned beef from?

SoupDragon · 30/03/2020 13:35

Awww... poor you :(

rootsonshow · 30/03/2020 13:36

My husband got a box, he is on the vulnerable list and I am disabled and cannot get to the shops. It had bread , milk, corned beef, small tin tuna. a bag of potatos, 2 cartons milk, tin of peaches, 2 toilet rolls, box of cereal, oranges, pears, dried spaghetti, a packet of fig rolls and a jar of pasta mix. I think that the government are doing a fantastic job under these circumstances.

MowzersAsleep · 30/03/2020 13:36

Like beard hair in their fig rolls.Grin

It might have been for a neighbour though OP?

Apolloanddaphne · 30/03/2020 13:36

@xenia. My high earning DH has said for a while now that he would happily pay more tax to help people who were sick or vulnerable get more aid. Not everyone is just thinking about themselves at this time.

diddl · 30/03/2020 13:36

Is the Govmt paying for the food or supermarkets donating?

It's a great idea imo.

I wish there was a way of everyone being able to have their food shop delivered to keep people out of the supermarkets!

VanGoghsDog · 30/03/2020 13:37

The list is very specific. My dad has stage four terminal cancer, in three places including his lungs, and he's at home with my mum and four carer visits a day, palliative care only, waiting to die. They both also have COPD and mum can't drive and has mobility problems.

And they are not on the vulnerable list.

So I don't think someone with a "chronic lung condition" had been missed, it just doesn't apply to them.

Northernsoullover · 30/03/2020 13:37

Xenia thank you so so much for paying your taxes. I pay tax too can I have my thanks now? My pat on the back? Grin.
If you have or are eligible for a box really no need to thank me. I don't actually give a stuff as long as out vulnerable are looked after.

ClientQueen · 30/03/2020 13:37

@Xenia I work FT and claim nothing. I'm vulnerable and shielding. I have nobody to go out and get food and no delivery slots. I mean I could just not eat 🤷🏽‍♀️
I'm working from home so paying tax and NI as usual
