Continued support for those who need a few kind words to help them through the dips.

Please do not come here to ask 'but how do you know if you haven't had a test'

Some people have been prescribed antibiotics for a secondary infection. That won't have any effect on a virus, only on a secondary infection (chest infection, pneumonia, etc) (obvs I am not a doctor)

Spacecadetagain · 30/03/2020 17:55

I should add that up until I realised that I really probably did have this .. I was a smoker after starting again three years ago .. I’d had so many stressful times and tended to medicate through them with nicotine .. I went cold turkey a few dats ago after gradually cutting down . I’m panicking though that’s it’s simply too late as I believe smokers chances aren’t very good .. I wish I’d given up at Christmas when I promised myself I would

TheDrsWife46 · 30/03/2020 17:56

“ Has anybody had the feeling that something is stuck in their throat?“

“ Can I just ask what the sore throat feels like? I have come down today with a horrible sore throat. The kind that hurts when you swallow. Kind of feels like there's something stuck but there isn't.”

Yes the sore throat for me has been akin to the feeling you get after your sick, sore stingy and abrased and like you have something still stuck in there.

EMichel102 · 30/03/2020 18:00

@Spacecadetagain I think having been a smoker might just make the recovery longer but given you’re at 17 days since an initial temperature you should be in the clear (not a dr either though).

TheDrsWife46 · 30/03/2020 18:00

Okay @Spacecadetagain try to stay calm, i can see why your mind is racing to the what if. But just in this moment describe to me the symptoms you are feeling.

Can you talk on the phone if you call 111? I will add when i called them the line went silent four times, interference three times but staying online on speaker phone I did get through.

stayathomegardener · 30/03/2020 18:00

Spacecadet you would be expecting some pretty horrible symptoms anyway if you have on just stopped smoking.
A quick google suggests sweating, coughing, sore throat and anxiety amongst others.

Can you talk to 111 for reassurance.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 30/03/2020 18:01

Spacecadet, well done, that's brilliant you've given up. As soon as you stop your body starts repairing itself, and yes it will help.

www.pushdoctor.co.uk/smoking/stop-smoking-timeline

As for 'chances' - if the mortality rate is 1-2% you have excellent chances, and even those in very high risk groups have a good chance of pulling through. Take heart.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 30/03/2020 18:02
  • and yes, I did think recently quitting smoking might affect your cough etc, as your villii (sp?) regrow your lungs will start to try and clear out.
Captaindobbin · 30/03/2020 18:08

Does anyone here know how prevalent the flu still is this time of year? Me and my son have a fever and dry cough. Just wondering the likelihood it’s covid. I have also been extremely cold (to the point where I was almost in tears I felt that cold) very tired and sore legs. Mainly hip and knees. Does this sound like covid to those who have had it?
I’m also a bit spaced out and I’m panting a bit just walking round the house.

Spacecadetagain · 30/03/2020 18:10

Thank you lovely people. I did try 111 but gave up just now after being on hold for a while . @stayathomegardener I must admit I’ve checked symptoms after giving up smoking and it lists chest congestion. Feeling fluey etc so I’ve probably just exacerbated my existing symptoms . I can talk .. and just held my breath and counted back from twenty no issues.. it’s just the pain and crushing sensation . I’m upping my fluid intake and may try sticking my head over a steaming bowl of water .. I don’t think it helps reading the reports of the worse case scenarios and obviously as my symptoms were so vague to begin with it’s hard to tell .. even if I go with when I consistently got a temperature and had a tummy upset I’m still 12 days in at least so am really hoping that’s a good sign .. The initial temperature was odd as I had no other symptoms and felt ok for about three days afterwards .. it never even occurred to me for the whole week afterwards that it could be CV

TheDrsWife46 · 30/03/2020 18:10

@Captaindobbin someone posted an article on here earlier from a virologist if you can find it, it says how we finished influenza a and nearing the end of b

TheDrsWife46 · 30/03/2020 18:13

@Spacecadetagain dont read anything. Just stay on this thread. Thats what Im doing. It doesnt matter what cases other people are experiencing because the news has sensational cases and youtube has people fit enough to say “can you believe it i tested positive and yet im fineee”

Stay on here where you have good anecdotal evidence that people are feeling as you feel, days and days after the published timescales. And you can hear their stories of how they are ill but managing.

Spacecadetagain · 30/03/2020 18:14

@ScrimpshawTheSecond thank you . I’d only been smoking for three years after having been given up for over twenty . I had pneumonia in 2005 and I’m 47 . Apart from being on blood thinners and bring anaemic I’m generally in good health . I went to the gp in October as I was worried about a mild cough . Gp arranged an x ray and when I phoned. Back he said it all looked fine and that my cough was probably a smokers one so I decided to take steps to give up . Sadly I didn’t .. I’m just hoping that I haven’t managed to wreck my lungs too much

stayathomegardener · 30/03/2020 18:14

@Captaindobbin look at the link casino218 posted for the Cambridge virologist information.

Something like we have passed influenza A's timescale and heading out of influenza B's so likely to be CV if right now.

Worth a read.

Spacecadetagain · 30/03/2020 18:17

@TheDrsWife46 Thank you ! I must admit when my symptoms ease .. I feel ok and calm and keep telling myself I have to just let my body do the work .. then on days like today .. I feel like my body is going to fail me and it’s all my own fault . Scare stories I’m keeping away from and must admit I’m slightly peeved by the “Oh I tested positive and had a mild cough for a few days now I feel amazing “ stories 😂

Spacecadetagain · 30/03/2020 18:18

Flu season is just about over so flu like symptoms are likely to be CV

TheDrsWife46 · 30/03/2020 18:21

@Spacecadetagain if you hung up on 111 then your just as well to just leave it on hold if you need that reassurance. Time will pass anyway so if you can pass that time and get some reassurance by 7-8pm then it may help you.

Ive had four solid hours of no cramps/chills but im starting to shake again. The thought if hours and hours of darkness and night time ahead me shaking is making me anxious too. But we’re all here, listening xx

DandyPenguin · 30/03/2020 18:21

@TheDrsWife46 thanks for asking about me earlier Smile

Ok my new symptoms are that I have a sharp ear ache in my left ear. I had been getting pains on my right side but it's transferred to my left now. I have an ache in the top of my rib cage, and my throat feels constricted like I'm breathing like Darth Vader. I also feel very cold.

Thermometer says I don't have a temperature but for the first time apart from the very beginning I feel like I have one ( a minor one).

Captaindobbin · 30/03/2020 18:23

Thank you for those replies. Sorry I don’t know how to make the names bold! I’ve had the flu jab so even more unlikely I guess. Thanks I’ll have a look at that link when kids in bed x

Casino218 · 30/03/2020 18:25

@DandyPenguin how many days are you as I have those symptoms too?

OP posts:
TheDrsWife46 · 30/03/2020 18:28

@DandyPenguin my thermometer has consistently had me at 37.4 or 37.6/7 (i keep getting different readings in each ear) yet all my symptoms have been what you’d describe as “feverish”

Chills/cold sweats/tremors/muscle pain and spasms. I have found it more frightening than the chest pain/breathing probably because I cant settle and rest through it when my body is twitching/pulsating outside of my control.

BlueCookieMonster · 30/03/2020 18:36

pretty sure my household have got it. Dry cough today, sore throat, feel like someone has set up a cozy campfire in the middle of my chest and my sports bra is too tight.

IpeartreeI · 30/03/2020 18:41

For no reason this afternoon my cough returned, chest feels tight, 02 sats are down and I'm wheezy. I had the viral infection two weeks ago. Wasn't tested, obviously. I feel scared when my chest is tight.

TheDrsWife46 · 30/03/2020 18:42

Welcome at cookie monster sorry its not a happier place

Spacecadetagain · 30/03/2020 18:45

@IpeartreeI what’s your sats reading ?
