Continued support for those who need a few kind words to help them through the dips.

Please do not come here to ask 'but how do you know if you haven't had a test'

@longshot I’m a day behind you.
I’ve felt good for most of the day and so I think overdid it. Chest/back aches back. Swollen feeling in throat. Generalised yuckiness.

TheWooisStrong · 31/03/2020 21:06

Anyone else got thick gack from your sinuses/post nasal drip?
Weird, as I never had a running nose. I feel all bunged up though.

hollieberrie · 31/03/2020 21:08

@Porcupineinwaiting Thanks for the handhold, very much appreciated. Offering one back! What day are you on? It really is never ending isn't it. I've thought I was getting over it so many times but today has been horrendous.

@longshot Gosh, what did they say at the GP? Rest, fluids, the usual? Great you're doing a bit better.. Hope it lasts although this virus seems soooo unpredictable.

Porcupineinwaiting · 31/03/2020 21:09

@TheWooisStrong that was one of my first symptoms. Stopped after day 4.

Porcupineinwaiting · 31/03/2020 21:11

Just finishing day 13 here and trying to resign myself to another 7 days of this as I'm clearly nowhere near "better", quite the opposite.

Ipadipod · 31/03/2020 21:11

I am nowhere near as bad as some poor folk on here , thank goodness , but I felt a bit rough this morning, then better throughout the day, now I feel a bit more rough than I did earlier, I feel shakey inside my body if that makes sense, slightly nauseous, headachey. I’ve felt off for the last few days , impossible question, but do you think I will get much worse?

Zobozal · 31/03/2020 21:14

I’ve found this thread so comforting.

Have had extreme fatigue and heavy chest for a few weeks but the last 4/5 days have felt particularly horrible. Chest feels heavy and raw and short of breath along with random burning face. No other symptoms. Had phone in my hand to call 111 just now as chest feels so heavy and am breathless but always feels worse at night and I feel others need the service more than me. Guess I’m looking for reassurance that this is manageable and people are recovering at home and not needing to go to a&e.

SchrodingersKitty · 31/03/2020 21:15

@longshot @hollieberrie @ShastaBeast: days 8, 14 and 17 were the worst for me. Its strange how random it seems and yet how much it seems to stick to a pattern.

Littleninja1 · 31/03/2020 21:25

Can't even remember which day I'm on now. Had a good day all day and now really breathless and have the suffocating feeling again. Trying to take my own advice and keep positive. I am breathing, it just feels like I can't. But I must be ok if I can write on a forum. That's what I'm telling myself.

@SchrodingersKitty your symptoms sound very similar to mine so I would say yes, assume you have Covid. Your DH's mild symptoms sound like what my DH had so fingers crossed that's it for him x

SchrodingersKitty · 31/03/2020 21:26

@Ipadipod: What day are you on? It's really hard to say if you'll get worse. There are quite a lot of us still hanging around here with the new-ending parade of symptoms at the three week mark, but there are loads of others who left the threads at a much earlier stage, presumably recovered.

@Zobozal: there's been lots of advice reported on these threads from other people's consultations with doctors. I was told that if I could finish a sentence I was breathing ok to manage at home. Someone else was told that you should try counting very fast to thirty. If you can make it with only one break for breath, that's good going.

In terms of remedies, I don't know what you've tried, but these helped me:

Sleeping propped up on lots of pillows; alternatively, sleeping flat on my front.

Hot drinks for the comfort and the steam;
Hot showers, ditto.

Some people have found saunas or steaming their faces in a towel tent over a bowl of boiling water - careful of burns - very helpful.

I have a hot water bottle permanently wedged behind my back at lung level.
Rubbing your back and chest with Vicks might help.

But if you can get to talk to a doctor you will probably find it reassuring. If things get very bad, a number of people have had paramedics come out to assess them. I don't think they are taking many people in to a & e. It is definitely manageable at home for most of us, though it is hard at times.

hollytom · 31/03/2020 21:29

Day 16 for me and I feel I’ve turned a corner today. I was prescribed two antibiotics and I feel they are making a big difference my chest is much less tight and the pain in my ribs is going. I was really struggling with breathlessness on Saturday. Anyone else with chest pain and breathlessness might want to ask your GP about antibiotics.

SchrodingersKitty · 31/03/2020 21:29

@Littleninja1: thank you - that's very reassuring. I seem to remember you are the same day as me - which would make it 21. I might well be wrong, though.

Sorry to hear you are feeling bad. You can definitely get through it. I am clinging on to the hope that (as @Casino218 has said several times) having got this far we are just dealing with the residual effects of the virus on our bodies, rather than still actively fighting it off.

Ipadipod · 31/03/2020 21:34

SchrodingersKitty I’m not entirely sure what day I’m on , probably day 4 at a guess. The symptoms have been so on and off that initially I sort of dismissed them , sounds ridiculous but I couldn’t decide if I felt off or not at first, but now I definitely don’t feel well.

ofwarren · 31/03/2020 21:34

Is anyone elses tongue a funny colour? For about 5 days mine has a yellow coating on it that doesn't brush off. The horrible taste has gone now though.

OneDayAtATime123 · 31/03/2020 21:34

@Zobozal
Today is day 14 for me: I found this forum before a few days and am so grateful for all the experience and advice coming our way.
It has been a rough ride, but I feel like I am making progress. I have had no fever or cough though, but all the other symptoms pointed to CV, hence the GP asked me to isolate and rest. I feel exhausted and feel like I cannot breathe all the way up, but my oximeter shows 99%. However, nights have become lot more easier now.
I did lose my sense of smell and taste on day 9 but it seems to be coming back since yesterday.
I have upped my vitamin C , zinc and turmeric.

ofwarren · 31/03/2020 21:35

That's good to hear @HollyTom
Fingers crossed you have turned a corner

alittleprivacy · 31/03/2020 21:36

My biggest worry is that my mum, who I saw before I had symptoms, admitted recently that she has had some symptoms too. She's older than me (obviously!), not as fit, has pernicious anaemia and has scarring on her lungs from what is now suspected to have been childhood TB and she had pneumonia at Christmas. She's a week behind me, so on day 7. She's having a very mild time of it so far. I'd consider my experience fairly mild and her symptoms are like a much milder version of mine, but I'm so worried every time I call her that she'll have gotten worse.

She's been reading about the viral load theory and the theory about the method of contraction being related to severity of symptoms. So she's thinking that maybe she picked the virus up from me at a time or in a way that is giving her a milder dose of it. I really hope she is right!

SchrodingersKitty · 31/03/2020 21:37

@Ipadipod: I think lots of us started quite mildly. I had weird scratchy sore throat, then stomach upset, with definite symptoms starting about day 4. Everyone second-guesses themselves: it feels a bit vainglorious to assume you have it, I think. You might very well be one of the very many (majority?) of people who gets off mildly with no more than a week of symptoms. Fingers crossed for you.

Meercatmama · 31/03/2020 21:38

At the end of day 16 and have been on and off breathes all day Also had a headache. I don't feel as ill as I did but this breathlessness is getting me down. Also had some temperature spikes and cold feet today although they are now warm. Onwards and upwards Hoping for a better day 17

hollytom · 31/03/2020 21:40

@ Ipadipod that was my experience felt ill at beginning but not that bad then it got worse started with the burning in my lungs and pressure on my chest about day 4.

Ipadipod · 31/03/2020 21:43

SchrodingersKitty thank you , I hope you’re right. I feel a bit pathetic asking when so many of you are so very unwell.

Lovelesslily · 31/03/2020 21:48

Thank you all ... 111 out of hours called back pretty quickly and told me to go to out of hours GP at the hospital...he said as I was day 11 I would not longer be infectious covid wise.

So scared he is wrong and could infect people but only doing what doctor told me to, he made me an appointment. Waiting to be seen. Got a feeling they aren't going to be impressed that I am here. Doctor has no PPE other than a mask. Not sure what to do.

Ipadipod · 31/03/2020 21:48

hollytom oh gawd! Unless my body tells me otherwise, I am going to assume that I’ll have only mild symptoms - PMA and all that.

Ipadipod · 31/03/2020 21:49

Lovelesslily I would go if that’s what you’ve been told to do x

stayathomegardener · 31/03/2020 21:50

So glad you are being seen @Lovelesslily
